Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

This is the best location if you’re looking for high quality fabric. I went to the Altamonte Springs store and it was absolute garbage! The customer service is average, but the selection and sales on fabric are wonderful.
Make sure you go here during the week because on the weekends you will wait almost an hour to get your yard of fabric cut. They have a system where you take a number and wait for your turn and if you’re not standing there the entire time you could miss your chance. I waited almost an hour and a half once so now I just go here during the week!
The women who are cutting the fabric for you are sweet. The women at the cash register? They won’t even acknowledge you, all they care about is completing your transaction and getting out of there. If I didn’t like the selection of fabric here, I wouldn’t go.

I came here to get several items custom framed and Claudia in the custom shop was AMAZING! She helped me fix an item that had been matted with an ugly mat and gave me competitive pricing and then she helped me get my son’s diploma from a European University framed in a beautiful custom preservation document frame. She also helped me pick out some standard frames from the store’s regular stock, too. The whole experience was a pleasure! I hate craft stores but I sure do love this JoAnn!

Had a great experience here. My framing job came out amazing. The manager helped me complete my order. I’d like to add that I know nothing about framing and she took the time explain everything.

If you come to this location, bring a pillow and plan on staying for a while. There’s never more than two cashiers or fabric cutters, but there are always a couple hundred employees on the floor.

I love Jo-​Anns because they have a lot of great products, but the customer service is really hit or miss. Most of the time it’s fine, I mean they always seem understaffed and super busy but when check-​out time comes the cashiers are typically really friendly and helpful. I have noticed tons of inconsistencies with their coupon policies which can be really annoying. Depending on who you get for a cashier, you can either save a lot of money or not. I really wish they could all get on the same page. It’s frustrating when one cashier lets you use more than one coupon, sometimes 3 or 4, which the computer gladly accepts, then you come back a week later and a different cashier tells you no that’s not possible you have to pick only one (when I’ve been a customer for years and it has been fine before). This scenario has happened to me multiple times but their lines are always crazy long and I hate to be that customer that holds up the line even more to argue policy so I just let it slide. Then I’ll come back another time and get a helpful cashier and the cycle continues. Get it together, Jo-​Ann staff.

This place was designed by a kid with ADD. You can’t find anyone that works there and when you do they are rude like our lovely cashier Alex. Sorry your life sucks and you have to take it out on your customers.

I like Joann’s but not this store. Staff is incompetent when you call in and ask for help in store. No one knows to to accommodate for customers. I called ahead to see if they had rhinestones, only for the call to be disconnected. Second time they said they would call me back within 15 minutes and they did not. When they said they had rhinestones I drove half an hour just for them to tell me they didn’t and that they were sorry. Should have called me back if they didn’t have any to begin with or update their inventory.

This store is always busy. Walking around and picking out your items, you wouldn’t know it right then. You’ll find what you need at a decent price but when you go to check out or need help, be prepared to wait.
The girls that work here always look so stressed out because they are (appear) understaffed. I feel bad they have to work like that all the time. Lines to get fabric cut, long lines to checkout, and everyone seems to be doing double duty. The lone cashier was answering the phone while checking people out. The line was at least 5 – 10 customers deep to her one register.
I’m sure I’ll be back. Next time I will just have to factor in a lot more time to run my errands.

This store cries for a makeover or update. It is old and beat up. The workers are extremely nice but everything positive stops there. From the moment you enter it is dirty. We don’t really enjoy checking out because there is always a long line that is slow moving. Try to come here at an off hour and know exactly where you are going because the more you walk around the less impressed you are with the shopping experience.

I continue to wonder how many people give up on a project or go to other suppliers because the wait times at JoAnns for fabric cuts and check out are always understaffed. You have to have a minimum of 30 minutes to do those things– it does not include browsing or locating your items. I’m typing this in line. Two people have put down their items down and left.

This place has everything arts and crafts it is a huge store with lots of yarn and fabric and wooden craft materials to build almost anything creative. There’s a large parking lot and lots of things to buy and great sales

I, being a man, I’m not much of a crafter. but I must say Joann’s is a store that is very nice Lee lead out. I usually come here with my wife when she’s looking for something for one of her projects. like most guys I have a tendency to wander. I am always amazed by the selection of things, knickknacks, pieces, parts that are there to choose. there is nothing in the store that you need. Great for seasonal stuff, beaking fancy cakes and cupcakes, and taking classes.
I must say they always have a very large seasonal area going on. so if there is an upcoming holiday, you will have all the appropriate decorations and thingies needed in one area.

3 stars for a lot of great stuff but a process that makes me leave empty-​handed more often than not…
I’ll admit that I’m not much of a crafter. With that being said occasionally I end up at Joann’s. The last time I was there I was searching for dark fabric for a coat (which I will likely never actually make). I noticed that all of the really wonderful fabric designs were in outdoor or upholstery fabric which isn’t suitable for apparel. This was a bummer but might be typical (I have little experience).
The part of the experience that was rough was waiting in line to get fabric cut. I know it’s hard to make a line not suck but it was very confusing. On the one hand there seemed to be a number system where you took a number and waited for it to appear over the counter BUT there was also a long line (of folks that apparently missed the number memo). The line was in plain sight of the women cutting fabric but no one was directing people as to the system. Numbers or line?!? Eventually we all got so tired of waiting that we put our fabric back and left without it.
Otherwise everyone at the registers is usually very friendly and outgoing. One tip is to never check out without a coupon! They’re easy to come by online or if you sign up for the mailing list. If you paid full price– you paid too much!
I’ll continue coming here when I need to but I’m not super encouraged to pick up a sewing hobby now!

I am not the creative type, so I do not visit this store too often. But when I do, I never remember how annoying their checkout line is until it’s time to check out, and then I vow never to come back. They set it up like a Sephora, with one line that tails around feeding into 4 registers. And you are closed in on all sides, surrounded by more crap they are trying to sell you. As someone who hates feeling closed in, this makes me super impatient, and gives me no option to choose the quickest register. There is no quickest register here, so I guess it does not matter.
As for the selection, I have been able to find what I am looking for on each visit, but some of the store is laid out in a way that I am left to do some searching for items in multiple areas. I would think all the paints would be together, but that is not the case. Looking for someone to assist me hasn’t been an issue, thankfully.

Jo-​Ann is a great spot to hit when you are looking for fabrics, silk flowers, sewing machines, craft items, and etc. There are also great classes to take for knitting, sewing, etc.
My nieces and nephew did a pillow making class and the teacher was very patient with each one of them. They loved the class and I am already thinking of signing up the girls for knitting classes now.
Tip– their seasonal items goes on sale early so you don’t have to wait until after Christmas to get stuff for cheap.

I hate that I need this place. It’s the closest fabric store to me (and even then it’s about 20 minutes away). The lay out is bad, the people unfriendly, and the lines are terrible! I tried to use the website to determine if the items I needed were in stock– no luck. I tried calling– worse luck. I hate having to drive all the way out there and they may not have what I want. The fabric station ladies are usually more knowledgeable than most, but there is a weird superiority attitude through the whole place.

The problem with this store is that they never have enough cashiers or staff on the floor. It seems to be a constant struggle to locate an employee at the store for any can help. The last time I visited this store, I had to beg the security officer to find a manager or somebody to open another register. The managers are not engaged. In fact good luck finding one! It’s really a shame. The store has so much great stuff, but the lack of employees working the check out stations makes it a miserable experience. And unfortunately a 40% off coupon doesn’t make up for lost time that I have to spend waiting to pay.

I’ve got no problem with this store, it’s merchandise or the friendliness of the staff except that it takes waaaaaaay tooooooooo looooooooong to check out. The last 4 times I’ve shopped here I have either stood in a long line with too few cashiers working the registers, or I’ve waited 10 minutes for someone to relieve the single cashier who was having many difficulties ringing up the person in line ahead of me. I even thought to myself walking in «ugh… this won’t be a quick trip.» It’s a consistent problem — enough so that you’d only find me here on a Sunday — because Hobby Lobby is closed that day!!!

I have been shopping at JoAnn’s for 30+ years now. I always wind up there when I need something. Although, a word of advice — if you don’t want to pay too much for craft and fabric items, make sure you use 40% off coupons or wait until the 70% seasonal clearance sales. NEVER pay retail there unless it’s something you absolutely must have.

It looks like the store has gotten smaller and they sold off real estate on both sides of the store. This store is only 10 years old, but looks 50 years old. The floors are dirty, the shelves are dirty and cramped and the front registers have been rearranged, but all of them look dilapidated. The formica is all chipped off, paint peeling, etc. There is only ever one register open at a time. The scrapbooking merchandise seems to be more updated than in the past, but other than that it’s like they don’t even care. Come to my chain store, but it’s going to be dirty… you will have to wait in a line forever to check out… Seriously, Jo-Ann’s it’s like you don’t care anymore, so why should customers by even walking in your store anymore?

You can always find whatever you’re looking for here! They have everything you can’t find at the other local arts & craft stores. The store is humongous, and the employees are typically pretty helpful. Prices are also reasonable. Just make sure you keep your receipts if you ever want to return anything; otherwise they give you a store credit for the lowest sales price of the same item.
