Thompson moving is the best!!! I have never written a review, I just had to for these guys! They were on time, friendly, helpful and just awesome.
I moved Friday after thanksgiving and they made it easy. The were professional and efficient! I have moved several times, they were by far the best movers! They didn’t even blink with my monstrous dresser. Nothing was broke!

Nothing short of a disaster, I am still finding furniture, lamps and various other fragile things that we wrapped up and they still found a way to break. If you wants lots of your stuff damaged and broken these are definitely the guys to hire. Not to mention the oil they left of the carpet of the house we sold from their dollies, didn’t phase them. Clowns of the highest degree.
Zero on every aspect, I have to select 1 star since there is no option for –40

Upon recommendation from an acquaintance, we hired Thompson to load a truck trailer U-​Pack. The 3 man team worked quickly to load. Included in the load was some brand new furniture. They loaded a couch at the top of a stack of other things. Well, sometime during the move there was just enough movement to rip open the arm of the couch. Thompson’s reply was sorry, since we didn’t move or unload it there’s nothing we can do. So it cost me the $ 400 + for the loading and now probably another $ 1000 to replace couch. What a waste of money! Better off doing it yourself.

I see a lot of good reviews on here for this place and I am sure most people get a good experience from here after paying a pretty penny or perhaps not, maybe my girlfriend was just discriminated against.
Well anyway, the story goes like this. My girlfriend was looking to hire some movers to move a few furniture items. To be exact they were a couch (not a reclining couch or anything real big and heavy), a queen size bed, a twin size bed, a dresser (and no, not a momoth sized dresser), and maybe some boxes out of her three bedroom apartment. The bottom line is this was to be a small job that would take 2 maybe 3 hours at most, but more than likely just two hours. The deal is supposed to be $ 115 for 2 movers and a truck included, which is what my girlfriend wanted. There was absolutely no need for anymore than 2 movers for this simple job; however, the guy named John over at Thompson was telling her she needed 5 freakin movers! Are you kidding me?! Her stairs are not brutal and she lives on the second floor and she only needed a few items moved and if that did not take long she would have had some other items moved as long as it was $ 300 or under total, but this freakin guy said 5 movers right off the bat at $ 195 an hour! He did offer to come out to check on her place before moving day and give an estimate based upon what he saw, which was very nice of them to do. We figured he would come out and see for himself that this is an easy job for movers.
When John arrived he was a little arrogant and walked about in her apartment like he owned the place. He plopped right down on her couch without asking her even though her purse and other items where right there, he almost sat on her stuff and said nothing. He then fired off a horrifyingly rediculous estimate of $ 475.00 for the job! He then said part of the reason they cost is their reputation blah blah blah! But on the estimate sheet he wrote $ 457, which I have attached. I blanked out her personal info, but as you can see the job was from Chicago Ridge to Oak Lawn which was a two mile job. And you can see from the second page I took, he did write down that small list of items she wanted moved. So how the hell did this joker come up with $ 457?! LOL! What a joke! It is clear to me he was trying to take advantage of a single mother. This is apparent by the way his mannerisms in her apartment were and the lack of respect and overcharging her and he did not even explain all the charges. The problem is HE is one that declared 5 movers were needed not her. HE declared that 3 hours were needed, not her. Most other moving companies let the customer decide how many movers or hours. He never, ever explained why 5 damn movers were needed! I bet if I was actually present at this time things would have been a little different. I have no evidence of that but it seems apparent that, that is what happened, take advantage of the single woman, just like a sleezy car salesman. Whether he was trying to take advantage of her or not, the rate was still appalling and his lack of explanations was rediculous! She ended up turning down the service, and hired a company that charged $ 255 for 3 movers. And no, the one she hired was not a low rate B.S. company, they were friendly people and worked with her. Not only that, no other estimates she got come over close to $ 400 even! The highest she was quoted was $ 302.00 for about 5 other places.
I am sure most people have good experiences here, but we did not, and I want to put the word out to watch these guys and do not fall for their crap. Maybe it was just John that is full of it, whatever, I do not care an attempt at ripping us off was made and I am not happy! I wish I could have moved this stuff myself but I needed one other person but no one was available, so we counted on movers and did not expect to nearly be ripped! She even told John I was going to be moving the majority of the stuff myself, she mainly just needed the two person items moved, and he still fires off $ 475, or $ 457, whatever, either rate is crap!

So our moving day came on April 4^th and we used the moving service we selected besides these jokers. They had originally quoted us $ 255. Well we decided since I had to unload my apartment and we did not want my girlfriend to be overburdened, we decided to have them move extra boxes and furniture which was more than twice what we told John at Thompson we had to move. The total ended up being $ 340.00 after all taxes etc…
As you can see with even more work then we told John, this other company still charged way less than John’s crazy quote. I think I have proven that John tried to rip my girlfriend off, and I do not take that lightly. I would not recommend this Thompson movers to anyone. Sleezy disgusting business practice that makes me sick!

What an amazing experience! These guys kicked butt. They were efficient, professional and respectful to us and one another. Great teamwork and came in under estimate. Would use them again. Worth the money. Stress free moving!

These guys provided a professional and painless move. I am very happy and would highly recommend them.

I used thompson for a recent move and will not use them again or refer them. The movers were complaining about the workload while moving us. They also scratched some of my leather. I was told someone would contact me to repair the scratches. Nobody called or followed up. They also put a small ding in one of our walls but I wasn’t going to make an issue of it because I do realize making a tight turn with the furniture is hard.

Used Unilocal to find some good movers to move us to Michigan, I will add to the good reviews. They came out to the house and gave me a price, the price they quoted did not change and the movers were great! Awesome company from start to finish!!! Thanks so much!!!

First class movers-​they moved a client of mine from Lake Shore Drive to Nashville. Put my clients Jag in a truck-​completely not a scratch on it. Clients loved them and I was relieved. Not a cheap company-​also not the most expensive-​there are super high end movers. I would say they do high end quality work for a corporate rate price. But they are the kind of outfit where you don’t have to worry one bit and don’t even have to be present to have everything packed up right and shipped to you.
I highly recommend as an interior designer– they take care and wrap things well. However I still believe that clients should always hire a project manager like myself to watch over these kind of events or be present on their own.

Our first move was disastrous with another company who stole some items. Let’s say we were hesitant for our next move. These guys were very professional and made our move smooth. Would highly recommend.

I had Alex and Mike and they did a great job. They were on time, polite, funny and hard workers. They had to go to two locations to pick stuff up for me and then move me to a third floor apartment with no elevator. They did an awesome job, would highly recommend.

Great moving company. They were seamless with our move. Very good people they were people friendly and did whatever we asked. They were very patient. They moved things so well that I barely even know they were finished. Mind you the moved an entire business operation for me in a day. Very reasonable price. First company that ever quoted more then what the final price was. Thank you Thompson. You all are awesome !

Have used these guys several times. The guys are always courteous and professional (even when having to deal with several flights of stairs). I don’t hesitate to call them when I need moving services.

Had some very heavy furniture to be moved from one home to two others. They sent the correct amount of men, they showed up on time, worked quickly and took extra care to wrap the pieces and managed several flights of stairs with no damage or scuffs. Highly recommended.

I needed movers ASAP and learned there’s lots of issues setting things up in certain towns. I called several movers that weren’t able to go to certain suburbs. I’m not really sure what that was about. The few I found that could accommodate me were crazy expensive! Thompson was the last one I called and they were a blessing.
They were easy to work with and the cheapest rate I was quoted. They showed up right on time and both guys were sweet and worked really hard to keep things moving. I really appreciated this as I was paying by the hour.
In the end they got everything done the exact way I asked and quickly worked on the bill. I didn’t have any issues with damaged items either. They handle any size move big or small. I won’t hesitate to use them again for my next move!

The service was very pleasant, smooth, on time, and all for a great price. The movers were so kind and so considerate of where they placed every item. It’s a backbreaking job, and I am so appreciative of these men for their hard work. Will use again, for certain!

I can’t imagine a better interstate moving experience. Well, if you have to move, that is!
Moved a 2 bedroom apartment about 100 miles up to Wisconsin from Oak Park and things could not have gone any smoother. Arrived at the scheduled time, and were exceptionally careful with all of our stuff. Unpacking and unloading were as smooth as well, with no damage to items or house.
Major props to Thompson. Highly recommended.

This was the first time that I used movers and I didn’t know where to go. The one’s my friend told me about couldn’t go where I was moving? 15 miles away. So I tried these guys. The salesman was kind of a knob. He spent more time hitting on me than actually looking around and listening to what the hell I wanted. That’s probably why I got such a good price. When they came to move me, they had way more boxes than I needed. That is a good thing I would suspect. They labled every thing that they took out and inventoried it. They were very quick and orderly about it. I had them store my stuff for about 4 months. They delivered it when I wanted with 3 days notice. Lightning quick. I was only missing one thing. And that really wasn’t a big deal. Everything else arrived in one piece. Very affordable.
