I can’t speak highly enough about my experiences with Robert J Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home in Orland Park. I lost my wife unexpectedly last February, and when I had to face a myriad of decisions in the midst of a very sad and brief amount of time, I was very impressed with their compassion and patience while taking me through the process. They carefully explained each step and option along the way, ensuring that all aspects of a funeral and burial were planned well. They gave us autonomy in developing our own service and were more than accommodating when it came to the burial of her cremains, which occurred a couple months later. I highly recommend them for anyone facing such a daunting and unwanted task of arranging a funeral for a loved one.

There’s not much I can say about losing your father. But I can say that Sheehy and sons was wonderful. Before, during and after. Much appreciated.

Life has its sad and painful moments where it is important that the right people help to ease the way. Robert J Sheehy and Sons Funeral Home is just such a place where an important and difficult job is done professionally with compassion and class. I have attended multiple wakes here as I taught in Orland for 16 years and from young parents tragically killed to well loved relatives being remembered and mourned, this funeral home always handled each individual’s needs perfectly.
Teaching in the area often gives you an additional insight into the owners of a local business. The kindness and empathy exhibited in this business is seamless, it is the way they are. I taught one of the sons and saw that the care was genuine as well as the personable way of dealing with everyone. (There are local businesses I never would choose to frequent because of the way the owners treated teachers, other students and parented their children.) Happily, the Sheehy family is comprised of wonderful human beings who also are wonderful business owners.
Death is a part of life, a painful part of life where you need an organization like this one to help you through the process.

Sitting in the backseat of my friends’ car on the way to the final burial site, we were discussing the funeral home and how nice of a job they did with all the services. Ed joked «are you going to Unilocal it?» Well, this one’s for you Ed…
In all seriousness, I have been to far too many wakes at Sheehy in the last ten years. And as morbid as this may sound, whenever someone says that the services will be held at Sheehy on 159^th, I say «oh good» Obviously, it is sad that we must attend services for the passing of someone we love. But at least at Sheehy, you know it will be done right. They are keen on respecting the wishes of the family. They are both professional and compassionate — which is a delicate balance in situations such as these.
Upon my most recent of unfortunate visits to Sheehy, there was a bit of drama. Let’s just call it a typical Irish festivity with firey tempers which concluded with a punch thrown. Yikes! The gentlemen from Sheehy handled the drama well. They seamlessly worked around the fuss, catering as much as they could to opposing parties without offending the other.
Consistently in each visit, the facility itself is top notch. Very clean and modern. All too often, funeral homes can be stale, old and of course, have that distinct smell. But not Sheehy. It have always found the chapels and additional grieving areas to be comfortable. They also have a few aspects such as the flat screen slide shows they put together using your photographs of the deceased that make for a nice, modern touch.
