Since Unilocal seems to like to recommend only the negative reviews for this business for some reason, maybe I can help balance it out a bit. My family has been training at this school for over five years and we just returned from the national championships in Atlanta, with one gold and two silver medals. Does anything else really need to be said?
Classes are five days a week and are always run by black belts or higher. Both locations have master instructors (4^th degree black belts) that do the majority of the teaching. There are also numerous black belt adult students and teens that help out. In addition to the quality of the instruction, there is also a strong family atmosphere. We participate in numerous parades, competitions, picnics, and special events, the most recent being a special Star Wars Jedi lightsaber training.
Is martial arts really worth anything? Well, my daughter has had to defend herself twice in the last five years, both against boys that were older than her, and let’s just say she made daddy proud both times.
As far as people complaining about prices and such, yes, there are less expensive options, but you get what you pay for. Our school owns the buildings at both locations and has Olympic quality mats and equipment. We also offer forth degree master instruction or better at both locations whereas most schools rarely have anyone above second degree. If you want to train in a store front that was a different business last year, yes, it will be a little less money, but again, you get what you pay for. Every year our school produces national champions, including my daughter as of two days ago. Yes, I say «our school» because we are a family. It is not just a business owner and his customers, it is much more than that.
Lastly, the school is not just for kids and not just for boys. If I had to guess, around 35%-40% of the students are female, including my 12 year old and my 7 year old. Also, we have adult students as well, including my wife and I. Ages range from 4 years old to around 70 years old. Hopefully Unilocal will be fair and recommend this review, unlike all the other positive reviews that you can find hidden at the bottom.
