Half Price Books

Brought in 3 large rubbermaid bins full of books, Approximately 100 books, mostly hard covered with their jackets on them still. Some where paperback and worn. But for the most part in good condition. They gave me $ 7.00. I have used them twice and both times it was a slap in the face. Will NEVER use them again, I would be more satisfied donating them.

I love Half Price Books particularly for finding old board games.

Half price books would sincerely be a great place to shop at if they weren’t saying f you to each and every Illinois ccw holder. The blatant contempt for a guaranteed right that this establishment has for people like us is nothing short of an insult to our intelligence and our cognitive abilities. We have passed multiple background checks on a federal state and local level and all have found is to be law abiding citizens without anything more serious than a minor traffic violation. We are also throughly trained in knowledge of the law with all that said I will not be patronizing this establishment and will advise others to do the same. Word travels quickly just as reputation does. Hope your enjoying your anti second amendment policy and feeling safe knowing that no law abiding citizen with a gun will be inside your store which means the only people who enter your place with guns will be murderers rapists muggers and thieves. But enjoy your sign I’m sure it will make everyone safer and will keep criminals safe from prosecution.
Plenty of competitors to shop at

I like shopping at this location as I’ve always made great finds here at good prices, but trade in is so hit or miss and more often a miss. I brought in a series on bluray collectors set that I knew had some considerable value on it as well as a higher end kindle, I just wanted to get rid of these items as I had no more use of them and wanted the first fair price I heard. They said they couldn’t find any prices on the blurays since they were out of print but from what I saw they were only looking online at Amazon for used prices and offered $ 10, I wiped my tablet before coming in and they couldn’t figure out how to get it back on and running to check if it worked and offered me $ 16, that left such a bad taste in my mouth I said I’d just take the items back. I still wanted to get rid of them though so I went across the street to disc replay, they restarted the tablet got it running no problem and they gave me $ 140 no hassle, even started talking to the girl about the collectors set blurays I had and she was telling me how she looked at all these different places online and 100% honest with me told me they were running $ 400+ used and I would make way more money just selling myself on ebay. Since then hpb has just been a place I stop in once in a while to browse as I still can find good items, but other than that I take my trade in business elsewhere.

This is a review of the vinyl selection at this Half Price Books (HPB) only…
Like many of the other area HPBs locations I’ve reviewed, this HPB has a fairly nice collection of records in terms of genre diversity – one will find a decent selection of classical and jazz and a nice big selection of pop and rock records, along with a iittle bit of country, some blues, and a bit of soundtrack and world, as well.
Like the Bloomingdale or Countryside HPB, the clearance bin is a great place to find records, and often, the quality if just as good if not better than the stuff available up top. Of course, the big advantage is the prices are clearance – usually 1.00 in the bins at this location (so more like Bloomingdale than Countryside in this case).
As with all the other HPB locations, the quality of the records can sometimes vary quite a bit, so it’s always best to check condition before buying. Pricing on the records at this location is more like Bloomingdale or Countryside, rather than Naperville or Schaumberg, which means the records are usually priced pretty reasonably. This is not always the case, however, on more «collectable» records, sometimes the price can be higher than the condition warrants, so buyer beware on that aspect of the pricing. Overall, though, this is less of a problem than the Naperville HPB, which stands out from others for being problematic on prices.

This is the place to buy your books, music, DVDs. Their prices always rule. Their service is average but who cares the prices & selections rule. They always have extra sales like 20% additional off their low prices. Sorry Barnes & Nobles!!!

More than enough choices. I can never leave here without buying a new book. This book shop has the most chill and relaxing feeling and i just love stopping in. The people who work here are very nice and always ready to help you. And if you’re someone who doesn’t like to read much i promise you there has to be something here for you. Stop in and check it out.

I’ve been in here a couple of times because I’m starting to enjoy reading more than I used to and thought this was a great start. My first trip I walked out with 7 books for only $ 14! Not bad considering the books I got normally cost at least $ 20 each. The second time I came here, I thought I could sell some books that I had no use for. I brought in a whole crate of stuff that weren’t in too bad shape and they only offered me $.50! I was so upset. The third time I brought some of my moms old books that were in excellent condition. I thought with that box I would walk out with maybe $ 20 and they only offered me $ 5. My mother would have killed me if I sold them for that much. I know they have to make a profit as well, but 50 cents for 15 books? And then 5 bucks for an additional 20?
If you come here, I recommend to just stop here for books, not to sell them. Other than that I love this store!

So the person I went to the store with got charged wrong (she was overcharged). They said they took off the charge, but it in fact was not. Both the manager and the person ringing her up said there was nothing they could do unless they charged her again. They wouldn’t even let her take the books out of the store. They need to both be fired, they shouldn’t be in retail. DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!!

I always seem to find a great buy here. They carry comics, movies, vinyl, books, etc. They also, buy back books. Although, the pay out is small.

I have had nothing but good experiences at the store’s location. The books are gently used and sold at a fair price. They also have a wide variety of toys, records, and CDs. I would highly recommend shopping here for any books you may need for your high schoolers. I got a great deal here when the first hobbit movie was coming out! A single copy of the hobbit newly printed cost more than a compendium that included the hobbit and all three lord of the rings novels.

The only good thing about this place it’s that they sell DVDs for a dollar or 2. Don’t bother bringing your books, movies, or CDs here. I tried selling them 12 DVDs, 3 CDs, and 32 books that. They offered me 12. 40 when I asked the lady why so slow all they said were they were scratched or didn’t work. How would she know they didn’t work if she never even tried them out. When I asked if she can give me an even 13 dollars she rolled her eyes and said no. Don’t waste your time. You can make more money by putting them on carnage sale or craigslist.

The staff here is extremely rude. They act like they’re doing customers a big favor by helping them. If you ask to look at anything in any of the locked cases, they hover over you like you’re some kind of criminal trying to steal their precious used books. The pricing here is also way more than other HPBs in the area.

Thousands of dollars worth of books for $ 45?
They just take advantage of you because they know you likely don’t want the books back. It seems if I sell 10 books, 40 books or 100 books, I get about the same amount.
Never again…

After a garage sale, I called and inquired about bringing books in to sell. Whoever answered the phone was super nice and walked me through the entire process. I brought in 3 huge tubs (the ones you store holiday junk in your attic in) of books and xbox games. It looked like 2 – 3 people had stuff being sorted through before me so we walked around. In about an hour they were done going through all my stuff and offered $ 107 for everything. I wish I would have asked how many books he had counted… My guess is 250+. Since these were all books that didn’t sell at my garage sale and I was planning on donating them after this last attempt, I walked away $ 107 richer and a happy girl.
The staff were all mega friendly and I had a good experience. I still believe you can buy books off amazon cheaper than here, but it’s a good place to browse if you’re looking to take something home same day.
They do make you stay in the store while they go through your stuff, so grab some Starbucks or lunch before coming in. They do have free coffee up front.

Here’s my review of the Orland Half Price Books. I think I’ve been to most of their stores in the area. The experience is pretty similar from store to store. Whenever I visit a store its seems to be moderately crowded, so its great to seek a brick and mortar book seller prospering.
I usually don’t have a specific book in mind when I visit one of their stores. I spend some time browsing around and usually walk out with at least one item.
This store seemed to do a brisk business in used items because there was a line of people bringing in books of books and DVDs.
So this is one is one of these place that you should allow some time to visit because it is easy to become engrossed and realize two hours later what time it is.

I mostly buy books online now, but I still like taking a trip to half price books. You can find some great books for cheap there. The quality of the selection is a toss up, but I can normally find at least a few good books to take with me. If you’re looking to sell books for a profit, this probably isn’t the place for you. They don’t give you much for them, but it’s better than having them take up space.
They have reorganized recently and it can be kind of tricky to find a book if you need something specific — the store is better for browsing. The associates are generally helpful though and can help you find what you need. Definitely worth the trip.

No complaints.
I can say that a lot of the previous reviews just seem whiny.
No one is forcing you to sell your books and with a thrift store like system you can’t expect them to have every book you need every time.

I was motivated to come here by my daughter doing it first. It was NYE day, a good time to clear out some clutter. We put all the bags of old clothes, etc. in the back of the car and the books in the front. Stopped by Goodwill and the back was empty.
Drove up here and gave them our box of books. While they were appraising it we looked around at the books. There were good deals here but I didn’t let myself buy anything, I had just gotten a stack of books for Christmas. Our name was called and they offered us 25.00 for our books. Deal!
In less than an hour we had decluttered and made 25.00. Happy New Year’s Eve to us!

I’m the first to review this? Weird, I thought this location would have at least 1 – 3 reviews, minimum, by now. I know the southwest suburbs are more than likely not a hotbed for Unilocal reviewing activity, but still…
Of the 3 HPB locations I’ve now gone to (Niles, Countryside, and this location), I like this one the most by far. (don’t worry Niles, you’re still my 2^nd favorite HPB location) Very organized, selection was less picked over than the other 2 locations, and I liked some of the touches this location had (the Mad magazine covers between both bathroom doors were a great touch. wish a little bit that the Niles location had an equally interesting magazine décor touch of some sort by their bathrooms, though it isn’t a huge issue for me whatsoever). Video game selection is also much better than both of the other 2 HPB locations I’ve visited, they even had random 5-​packs of Game Boy Advance games, interestingly.
Props to the employee who I had an interesting chat about Chick-​Fil-​A with, when I was checking out. And FYI, this location is located in a strip mall on the western edge of Orland Square Mall, just east of La Grange Rd., and barely north of a Panda Express.
