Marching Ant Moving

I tried to use this business. I really tried. Up until now, there were no reviews for this location. However, the reviews for the other two Marching Ant Moving locations were decent enough. I liked that the owner is a MSU grad. I also liked that this location is within a couple miles of my residence (which despite the short mileage for their truck to return to base, garners no reduction in price!).
These movers indicated they had experience with pianos. I wanted to move a piano and a small bedroom set. Instead of paying piano movers who only move pianos AND a separate moving company for the bedroom set, I thought I would try Marching Ant Movers.
So far, they seemed like the perfect company. According to their website, they boasted that they do short notice moves. They indicated that they operated six days a week and seven days seasonally.
I emailed them a detailed message about what I wanted moved, when I was looking for it to take place, the distance, and various ways for them to contact me. They did not respond immediately, but they eventually replied via e-​mail with a canned response.
As I wanted to set this up, I contacted them via phone and e-​mail. I never received a response. After several days, I made a follow-​up call. I will note, the phone numbers for their three locations apparently are all forwarded to one person.
Mary, the receptionist/​scheduler was difficult to deal with. She indicated that they were just too busy to call me back. She also pointed out they don’t work on weekends. Again, their website indicated they work six and seven days. How do they handle these short notice requests they claim to accept?
Nonetheless, I proceeded as they fit my need for a mover that could handle a piano. We get into the scheduling process and set a date. Mary then informs me that the time would need to be later that Saturday as they have their Christmas party the night before and will need a late start. Now, what is more important? The customer and earning business or the party? Okay, I agreed to the later start time. Then, she informs me she looked at the wrong date and I would have to select another day for the move. Okay, once again, I’m amenable.
As the contact/​scheduling process alone is making me lose confidence in this company, I expressed my concerns. I wanted some measure of assurance that my belongings and home would be treated more respectfully than I was being treated. My concerns were not put at ease. The responses exasperated me. By now, I’m thinking this is a fly by night, home based business that is operated as a side occupation. To further my suspicions, this location is at a self storage facility. If you visit in person, the receptionist for the storage company will tell you that Marching Ant Movers has an office there, but all the workers are «out on jobs.» She will hand you their business card and tell you to call them. I never saw the office, moving trucks, workers, or even a sign for the moving company.
Now, Mary did not ask questions like what was being moved and from where (upper floors, etc.) or if I had special needs to consider (ceramic tiles, wood floors, etc.). So, I explained that I have wood floors that I was concerned with. She pointed out their movers do not protect their feet or wear shoe covers. I questioned how the piano would be moved and how. I was interested in knowing what piano experience they had. Well, none of my questions were answered in a meaningful way. That is except one. I asked if they were accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Mary said yes. I reluctantly booked with them.
After a quick check then BBB website, I learned they were NOT accredited with the Better Business Bureau. In the meantime, I found another moving company that I was more comfortable with. I called to let Mary know that I would be going a different route and that I needed to cancel. Her response was, «Okay.» She didn’t even ask why!
These folks may be good movers, but I will never know. My experience was horrible. One employee single handedly changed my mind. If the customer service was this bad, how would they treat my belongings and home?
