Yes, I’m hanging 5 stars on this out-of-the-way grocery, deli, gas station. For those who gave it three or less… shame on you! Maybe you hit them on a bad day — your bad day. Anyone willing to operate a business in any rural area deserves all our support. Of course there may be some exceptions to that rule but in this case — the employees/owner have hit this one right on the mark. Yes, we were ravenous by the time we arrived because all other food locations were closed that afternoon but OHGD went above and beyond. To the reviewer who said the prices were too high… see above. People aren’t pounding down the doors along Rices Xing Road and the gas prices were about equal to most major stations here in the Valley. Beyond reasonable — we were three in our group and all agreed. Okay… on to the important stuff: We ordered deli sandwiches. Were they gourmet? Define gourmet. What they were was fresh. Made to order. First thing for any sandwich is the bread. Just you’re basic sliced rye — but it was exceedingly fresh and we all noticed. Two of us had the veggie — adding cheese — all the veggies were cold, crisp and(one more time) FRESH! All the extras pickles, onions. We snatched it down. Our third lunch guest had sliced turkey(yes, pressed) but was perfectly content with the results — not a scrap left. While we waited for our lunch we explored and were amazed at what we discovered. Overlooking all the usual sodas and snack food, we found an amazing number of local/regional goods from wine, chocolate, fruits and veggies, We jumped on and bought loaves of local North Yuba Bakery bread — that was a real treasure and another review coming up soon. Great chocolates and other taste-tempting treats. One last thing: Staff was friendly. Sandwiches delivered timely. Now we were there well-after the lunch rush, but still need to acknowledge good service. And also when we inquired about other local products they were quick to respond and happily so. The back roads leading to Oregon House Grocery & Deli are a cyclist’s dream. And along the way, make haste and get to this oasis of Visit Yuba-Sutter. FYI — Deli closes at 3pm. Grocery store is open until 8:30pm but I always recommend calling ahead.

The principle advantage of this out-of-the-way store is to supply rural denizens with a venue for specialty groceries at a cost for the convenience typically 35% higher than what you would pay in town. A good place to get any forgotten item to complete your camping/fishing weekend trip’s picnic, but a bit pricey to do regular shopping. Gasoline prices typically run about $ 0.35 per gallon higher than in town. There have been reports that the diesel fuel can contain significant amounts of water from condensation in the above ground tanks. Use caution navigating around the parking lot, which is often busy and is not particularly well laid out. It’d be all too easy to back into someone. The wine selection is exceptional for a store this size, but, again, don’t forget that you’ll pay around 40% more here than in town. Actually the award for Best Burger north of Sacramento would be more appropriately given to Pizza Round-up in Loma Rica, and that assumes that there is not something better in Marysville/Yuba City.

Best Burger north of Sacramento. If you are at Collins Lake come here and get a Burger and Macaroni Salad, plus stock up on beer. Great store with a wonderful staff.

This is the Little Store That Could!!! They carry an amazing selection of specialty products including imported gourmet chocolate, organic, vegan, gluten-free, local produce, local honey, local wine, local olive oil… you name it! And this is on top of all the regular items that you expect your rural grocery store to carry to bail you out when you realize you forgot THATTHING during your big shopping trip to town. Their prices are competitive on most of the specialty items, and reasonably higher on the regular stuff. This isn’t the place that you’ll do your regular grocery shopping, but you will likely find ANYTHING you need here. The staff is always friendly and smiling. The deli offers good food, at reasonable prices, and it is served quickly, with a smile. Oh, and they have a great wine selection!!!

Remnants of a once-great customer-oriented store. Always check the expiration date of anything you buy there.

I was thoroughly impressed by the stock at this little grocery. They have all kinds of things, its basically a corner store on steroids. They also have a gas station. Unfortunatly, they do not accept AmEx. They do accept MC and Visa.
