Larry Morton’s Transmission Service

My transmission went out on one of our work vans so I called Larry. He was super knowledgeable, and knew more about my trans problems over the phone than I did driving it. They got it fixed for about 10% cheaper than any of the other shops quotes, but the best part was because it was a work vehicle, they got us back on the road in only 2 days! 10% cheaper, and 400% faster than anyone else. So pleased with their service, I’m taking another truck in for a new transmission cooler, again, cheaper and faster than the competition. If you need transmission help of any kind, don’t even bother checking around, these guys will do you right.

Simply the best service, knowledge, and price for transmission service and rebuilding. Corey rebuilt my Honda Accord transmission for less than ½ of what the dealer wanted to swap it out with a factory rebuilt unit. They do all of my transmission and 4WD service work, and they’re master transmission mechanics.

Fair pricing and honest, high quality work. Good attention to details. Can’t ask for more, except that it’s a long drive from Portland.

As a single woman it’s sometimes hit or miss when it comes to problems with the ride. Many times I rely on friends and family to recommend someone for specific problems. In this case it was a faulty clutch.
After contacting every one of the recommendations and getting quotes at around the $ 1,000 mark, I was seriously wondering if it was even worth putting that kind of cash into a 20-​year old Camry. Since I inherited the car from my grandparents I know the 119K are original miles so decided it was worth it to invest in a new clutch.
So back to the internet I went trying to hunt down better prices. I don’t know why I didn’t check Unilocal (brain fart I guess). It was after finally seeing a review (curiously missing now) and realizing this shop was not far from home, that I thought I would stop on by and get a quote. The owner gave me a quote that was several hundred dollars less than others had quoted and could get me in the next day.
After dropping off the car the next morning, I anxiously awaited the call that almost always comes giving me a laundry list of ‘other items’ that needed to be fixed as well. God, I hate the upsell!
Because I had recently had some brake work done at one of those chain stores where they guys «come running», I knew there was at least one item that would make the laundry list. But surprisingly this was the only work Larry Morton recommended and the price was again significantly lower.
The car was ready when they told me it would be, the customer service was great, and the price for all work done was less than anyone else had quoted.
One caveat: They do add a 1% surcharge to the bill to cover the latest income tax implemented by Oregon voters. Since I find the new tax unfair to small businesses, I had no problem paying this surcharge and it amounted to less than dinner out at a moderately priced restaurant.

Had very good experience with this repair shop. Quick service, decent warranty, and lowest estimate by hundreds of dollars on my transmission overhaul! I am very glad that I did business with Mr. Morton and would recommend him to anyone based on my experience. I was treated professionally by his friendly staff and when i was two days late on getting my vehicle in for a 15-​day warranty inspecion, i was told it would be no problem. My Taurus runs great now!
One thing to note is the one percent surcharge he passes on to his clients. This is to make up extra costs associated with the small business tax passed by Oregon voters. The sign on the counter explains that he provides nine full-​time jobs and has already been in the red the previous two fiscal years, but is still subject to extra taxes based on his overall sales. I was happy to pay the recovery surcharge because the bill still rang in much lower than it would have with other shops and I would hate to see such a wonderful business fail simply because of unfair taxation.
