Don’t let the outside appearance dissuade you. The food is amazing. The combo plate with beef, lamb and chicken kabideh is amazing. Hummus is non-​traditional but excellent. Portion size is huge.

If you like Persian food THIS PLACE IS THE BEST. The service is friendly and helpful for first-​timers. Their eggplant appetizer (Bademja) is top notch and the lamb kabobs are delicious. Generous helpings of food. Nicely decorated restaurant.

Very good food. The kobideh kabob was perfect for my kids, as was the rice. My lamb shank was falling off the bone good with perfect garlic. I highly recommend it for great food, very friendly service and for being a great family restaurant.

They serve bread, cheese and lots of herbs after you are seated. Tried the Beef Kofta Kabob and Chicken Kabob plates which comes with rice — they were decent. Prices are on the higher side though.

I came to the restaurant at Saturday, it was pretty empty.
We took the lamp chops and the lamp sultani it was delicious. Great dishes !!! I recommend this restaurant!

Best Persian food in Sacramento and beyond,
This place puts Famous Kabob and Shahrizad notches below it. The food is delicious from the vegetarian dishes to the tasty kabobs. The service has always been excellent and I’ve been coming here for years. This place is a hidden gem and I’m amazed they they don’t have people waiting outside the doors to get in. I’ve taken my Persian friends and they agree, this place is fantastic. Treat yours taste buds.

I’ve driven by this restaurant many times without stopping. The façade is plain when compared to the lovely interior. Comfortable table seating in an open room.
You must try this gem.

This place is great. We were last here about 10 years ago. Just happened to stop in one night and loved it. We never forgot the fresh herb baskets. Came in tonight with the family (7 of us) and it was just good as we remembered. The food was prepared perfectly and presented beautifully. Great service and atmosphere.

My husband and I tried Kolbeh Kabob tonight for the first time and absolutely loved it! The food was so fresh, the service was great, and the owner came over and spoke with us and was such a nice man. We can’t wait to bring our friends and family back to try it. It’s our new favorite restaurant in Orangevale!

I like to try new ethnic restaurants instead of the same ol’ common foods like pizza, burgers, etc. Here at Kolbeh Kabob, you are in for a treat to the food senses.
Tried with my aunt earlier this week, and being a Monday, it was nearly empty, but it shouldn’t be if more knew about this place. I admit, I’m not one that totally understands all the types of food offered here, but that’s okay, because probably anything you try here is bound to be delicious.
We each tried a lunch special, my aunt had the vegetarian plate with delicious hot veggies that are seasoned perfectly (I ate some to sample and will likely get this next time!!) I ordered the chicken lunch special, and instead of rice, got a salad added in it’s place which turned out to be very good tasting (my aunt also got the salad and was very happy that she did).
The waitress Rahz was very helpful and answered all our questions and told us about our food. The layout of the platers of food were so colorful and the food was hot and ready to be eaten right away.
We both agreed that we would be back again, but with more of the family so they can also enjoy what we found here in Orangevale.

This was my first experience with Persian food. I have many food restrictions, primarily because I am so darn picky. The waitress was absolutely amazing. She took time to explain everything on the menu and when our foods came, she kindly explained the best ways to combine the various foods. The pita with the herbs, cheese, butter, and radish was amazing. Add in some house made humus and it’s quite honestly like nothing I have ever eaten before. I enjoy a good humus and this was possibly the best I have ever had.
I ordered the ground chicken breast and thigh kabob. I was not expecting a ginormous amount of food. I think I may have taken home more than I ate. I like food and I eat. Two meals for the price of one.
While we were eating, an older gentleman came in. The waitress greeted him in what I’m assuming was Farsi. He then walked over to a table and sat down. A moment later another gentleman came out to join him. I enjoyed listening to the music of their language. It was an excellent complement to the gentle classical music and the food.
Lastly, I used the ladies room. I really felt at home. Beautiful and clean. Always a plus in my book!

Favorite persian/​iranian place in sacramento and maybe even all of norcal. I’ll have to try their koobedeh next time. But so far it’s up there next to Yas in Saratoga, which is a bay area favorite.

Kolbeh kabob is is gem I discovered recently. Since then I have taken friends there and also ordered take-​out.
I love their chicken (ground) kabobs. Perfectly seasoned, succulent and served hot off the oven/​grill, over seasoned basmati rice. The portions are huge and served on large plates. You will never go away hungry. Food is fresh, served piping hot and good quality.
The owner stopped by our table and is a pleasant gentleman who takes great pride In his authentic recipes.
The waitress Rahz was very personable, sweet and efficient. She did a great job serving our table of 4. Always smiling and helpful.
This restaurant is my go-​to place when I don’t want to cook some days.

What a delightful surprise walking into this joint about an hour before closing.
It was a Kabob kind of night.
Hanging out with the wife and rocking out to some Phil Collins while driving around, I realized I wanted the smell of kabob in the air tonight. I passed by this not so savory looking joint called Kolbeh Kabob and decided to stop in. I walked in, saw some of the other patrons dishes and realized that I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life.
I normally always check out Unilocal reviews when going to a spot. I had read some reviews previously and knew this place had it going on. I never actually took a look at the pictures though.
I thought this place was like Royal Kebab in that it was fast casual. Walking in, I was blown away by the décor.
The inside of this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Coming from a dude, I repeat, this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised.
The staff were very welcoming and allowed us to choose where to sit as the place only had a few other tables occupied. After bringing our drinks, the waitress asked if we had any questions about the menu. This is always a huge plus in my book. I knew I wanted a chicken kabob. That’s always my base order for a new kabob spot, but it’s always nice when they ask and I ended out having questions about the rice.
So let’s get to the good stuff, the food!
We ordered a hummus app. Wife had the chicken breast kabob and I had the same thing, but added a salad and made the rice estamboli style.
They brought out what I later found out to be Sabzi Khordan. Basically a mixture of fresh herbs (I tasted basil and mint) served with pita bread and fresh feta cheese. The waitress explained to us how to go about putting it altogether.
This stuff was fantastic! I did not need the hummus app nor the salad after eating this. All the flavors came together so well and I was surprised since mint and basil are a bit in your face taste wise. It’s also on the house which is pretty freakin’ sweet!
After that we received the hummus, pita bread and salad. The salad was huge for the price and very tasty. I got it with the house dressing. The hummus was average.
When they bring out those entrees, you will be glad if you came with an appetite. Portions are huge!
The chicken breast was some of the most tender I’ve had at a kabob spot. Very well seasoned and the rice was also very good. The waitress recommended adding a seasoning to the rice that was available on the table. It added a nice touch to the already tasty meal.
So this place gets 5 stars from me. I’ll definitely come by again and also try this place out during lunch hours. Here’s the breakdown
1 star — Place looks so-​so outside. Looks amazing inside. The surprise factor is worth the star
1 star — Sabzi Khordan on the house. I could grub on that stuff all day
1 star — Lunch prices — $ 8.99 on the chicken kabob plate. Good value for the food quality
1 star — Food quality and presentation. Everything tasted great and wasn’t thrown together. Even the sabzi khordan had a nice presentation and that ish was free
Final star — Our waitress (and I’m sure the rest of the staff). Extremely attentive and willing to answer any questions we may have had. Very welcoming as well. We felt like family there.

So the location is right across the street from the Winco in Orangevale. Not much to speak of in front. Decent parking. The front sign says Persian Kebobs or something like that. The inside looks like one of those dated 70’s restaurants with lattice on the ceiling and fake plants hanging down. Theres a lot of paintings, drinking glasses and is just generally cluttered & busy. The tables don’t seem too close but we could hear the convo going on at the next table. Bathrooms could’ve used a good steam cleaning. (I’m big on bathroom cleanliness if you hadn’t noticed from my other reviews! My kids always end up needing to go so I check it out!) anyway, they brought us a basket of pita breads, mint/​basil and cheese. We ordered some hummus which only came with two pieces. The hummus was pretty tasty. We ordered lemonade for the kids $ 3.00 per glass & hot tea for me & the Boo $ 2.99 each… kinda pricey. Then we ordered the Sultan Feast which feeds 6 – 8. I would say if you had 8 adults this would not be enough food. See the pic. The lamb kebob was the most tasty, then the steak. I didn’t care much for the chicken cuz it tasted of capers (which I hate). The service was good, and we got in & out quickly. We got there late & were the last to leave. IMO, I thought the food was tasty but rather pricey and would try anything once. If my Boo wants kebobs again, I’d suggest trying somewhere else.

Tucked away in a shabby strip mall off Greenback in a section of Orangevale that has little to offer in the way of dining options, Kolbeh Kabob is actually worth driving across town for.
Pretty thorough Persian menu, with beef, chicken, vegetarian and seafood options. And, thankfully, my favorite eggplant appetizer (Kashke Bademjan). So good I wonder why I don’t order this alone for takeout.
Although I’ve tried a few things here (all fantastic) I love the chicken koobideh kabob the best. Dinner entrée (2 kabobs and a load of rice) is entirely too much food, so I always leave with leftovers. Good value for your money. If you’re more adventurous, I would recommend the Fesanjan as well. Yum.
This isn’t Famous Kabob but it’s definitely the best Persian cuisine you are going to find around for miles.

I have driven by kolbeh Kabob many times, and being a frequent Unilocaler i kept telling myself we should try it. So finaly my wife and I went there for dinner and was thoroughly impressed.
It’s true the outside does not do this place justice. When you step inside you are overwhelmed with the inviting décor and awesome smells. We where greeted by probably the most helpful and curtious wait staff i have ever had. Infact they pretty much ordered our meal for us, asking questions about what we liked and it was awesome. The best kabobs I have had, and the rose water pistachio ice cream is delicious.
We have been back several times and every time has been as good as the first. You have to give it a try!

Although I liked my lunch for the most part, I do have a few suggestions for the owner. Let’s get these out of the way first:
1. If you are going to make pita bread a focal point in your restaurant by bringing out a ton of fresh herbs to go with it –shouldn’t the pita bread itself be good? FYI– The bread was stale, disappointing and flavorless. Perhaps that is why it is served with more herbs than we as customers know what to do with. What happens to the leftover herbs? Do the same unused herbs that we touched get passed on to the next table? Great idea – poor execution.
2. The lentil soup was way too thick to be considered a soup. Perhaps this would be better served as a spread for the stale pita bread, or glue for my kid’s art project at school. The «soup «didn’t taste bad, but it didn’t taste all that great either. It was kind of like putting your tongue on a 9-​volt battery. In other words, it was a weird experience.
3. I showed up with a coupon that I found online (that did not have expiration date) that said if you pay for 2 drinks, and one entrée, you receive the 2^nd entrée half– off. However, when I tried to use it, I was told that that coupon was old, and was no longer valid. Not only did the server not honor the coupon, she didn’t offer me a free appetizer, dessert or anything. I felt that this was a situation where the restaurant could have stepped up and made our visit special instead of flat out refusing to honor the coupon.
For lunch, I opted for the chicken kabob (breast) –served with a bed of basmati rice and a flame broiled tomato. The chicken was marinated wonderfully in what I would consider a tomato –based sauce. The problem I had was that some of the smaller pieces of chicken were a little overdone. However, I would rather deal with over-​cooked chicken than the alternative. My only suggestion would be to make sure the pieces are all the same size so that they cook evenly. Despite the slight inconvenience, this didn’t stop me from putting down every last bit of food. *** TIP-​Ask for some chile sauce to go with the kabob.
My wife ordered the beef koobideh which is ground beef mixed with onions and spices –served with basmati rice and a tomato. In my opinion, this was the best version of this dish that I have ever tried. The beef was seasoned perfectly, and not overcooked like the chicken I ordered. *** TIP –This dish is part of their lunch specials during the week ($ 8.99).
Bottom line, I ate too much on my visit. Everything looked so good on the menu — I couldn’t help myself. We will definitely come back during the week for their lunch specials. Their regular menu prices are a bit too high for my liking –especially for a family of 5. However, if I could find a valid coupon online –I would come back tomorrow.
