History
Established in 1948.
The original Assistance League of Orange Thrift Shop opened in a donated warehouse at 321 W. Chapman in 1948. It was moved to 124 S. Orange St. in 1958 when the Assistance League remodeled its Chapter building to accommodate the thriving business. For $ 22,000 the group purchased its current location at 20 Plaza Square… smack in the center of Old Towne Orange.
After several renovations (the most recent in 2011) Assistance League volunteers proudly staff the charming «Now and Again» Thrift Shop. Originally built in 1922 to house the Orange Building and Loan, the unique front and rear windows are original to the structure as are the exposed used brick walls. An original iron-work window frame, discovered in one of the walls, highlights the donor wall behind the register.
The Old Towne Preservation Association honored Assistance League of Orange with the 2012 Plaza City Award — given for significant improvements to preserve the unique historical character of Orange.
