Joyride: Vintage for Men

The store itself has a pretty decent selection of goods. The problem is the employees. Twice I’ve gone in and wanted to purchase an item, the useless employee with the brown hair never seems to know the prices and tells me to come back when the manager «Rob» is in. It’s a neat little store, but I’d rather shop online than wait around for a manager to sell me an item.

For very reasonable prices, I’ve had 2 hats returned to almost like new state, my poor bowler that got mercilessly rained on, and my fedora, which just need a little repair and TLC.

Breathtaking selection, beautifully curated and displayed, i found this shop to be breathtaking! Looking at shirts, leather jackets and ties, prices were all very and in fact, less than I was expecting from such a beautiful store. I’ve entered a couple stores in anaheim to search for a place with decent inventory of stylish garments. Well, I was amazed as I walked in the store that this place was unique; the only store to truly sell clothes that were stylish today and are considered even more stylish now than ever before. From a biased opinion, I enjoy the style of buttoned suspenders, tailored clothes, wearing scarves which originally were meant for men, and above all, having an individual dressing style that rivals the status quo.
The gentlemen at the time was Eli and he was very friendly, helpful, and an enthusiast about the past clothes era. He has a great knowledge of clothing styles from world war 2 to even the present. I got some helpful tips on how to pick a hat, the fitting of shirts, and a good history behind jackets, hats, and numerous other bios on the clothes offered.
If your interested in finding your style or trying out and taking a look at vintage clothing, look no further. This place is filled with friendly service, moderate pricing, but most importantly, a good idea to help the novice fashionista visualize his style.

We wandered in here one Saturday on our rounds of the Circle. I’ve always been curious to see what’s inside because the shop keepers are decked out in slim-​fit vests, bowler hats and waxed facial hair.
We found a great vintage Gauyabera shirt that fit my husband perfectly! As my husband was mulling over whether he should buy it or not, he saw a Nazi armband in a display case… We hightailed it right out of there! If I weren’t scared of persecution, I would have said something to the man working there!
This place sells Nazi memorabilia! Is that even legal? They should be ashamed of themselves for selling symbols of hatred and discrimination. Not cool, not at all.

Preface: This review is suit centric. I love style and fashion but really feel some of my fellow Unilocalers have done a great job reviewing from an «overall» and/​or «vintage shopper» perspective. That said if you want a suit centric review…
Myself: (self proclaimed) Passionate about suits. Has fair knowledge of tailored clothing and for the better or worse, proud owner of way too many suits too.
Summary – the title of my review says it all.
Where Joyride Vintage excels:
*Impressive and Organized selection of suits at a fair price
*Many of the suits offered can be worn at the present day and dare I say, the office
*staff is also fairly knowledgeable from a historical perspective
*friendly staff
*Selection is great for someone who is looking for a unique, high quality suit without paying an arm and a leg
What you NEED to keep in mind:
*like any vintage shop, the quality of the selection depends on the timing.
each piece is unique and thus, you should come in knowing someone may have already jumped on «that perfect suit» or you may find yourself with three «perfect suits» to choose from
*you are NOT here to shop for BASIC SUIT. you are here for a a ONE OF A KIND SUIT.
while Joyride offers «staple suits» to a degree, you are not here to buy your first versatile suit. all the suits here are versatile in use but really the selection best serves the gentleman who wants a unique piece/​outfit.
*having a working knowledge of suits helps you pick out quality pieces.
not saying the staff couldn’t help you but keep in mind that not all suits are built the same. otherwise, you are at the mercy of a mere fitting session.
sample things to keep in mind:
*1960s suits tend to have shorter jacket than most present day suits
*many «older» suits have a much higher (pant) rise than today’s suits
*like a new suit, these garments can be altered (to an extent) to fit you!
*did you check the lining on the suit jacket? suit pant?
*is the suit canvassed?
*does the fabric pattern line/​match up at different areas of the garment? (better constructed suits feature this level of tailoring)
If you honestly love classic men’s fashion/​style, Joyride was tailored to meet your expectations.

This place is amazing. You can read the other more verbose and clever reviews already posted, but it boils down to if you’re a guy that likes vintage clothing and accessories you NEED to go here.
Yes, it will be worth it for you to go out of your way to get here.

Finally, a vintage shop for men. No girls allowed! (Just kidding… Buy a really cool gift for your favorite guy.) I won’t repeat the other reviews, as they say it all. Very hipster and dapper.

Joyride is an aesthetically stunning store to walk into, every article of clothing hand picked and in amazing condition. Ask any of the well dressed gentlemen behind the counter about anything in the store, they will have an answer and a story about it. And it’s not just clothing. Almost anything a man would have worn or used, from straight razors to cuff links to knives to lighters, they have a wonderful collection! The pricing is more than fair, anything new of the quality they carry would be waaaaay more! Lastly, the guy who fixes their lighters (almost all of them are ready to be filled with fluid and used) is awesome!

Was looking for a nice fedora for stage, saw this dude wearing one that was super sharp at the Continental room in Fullerton. Asked him where he got it and he said this place. So glad I came down to check it out. Incredible selection, knowledgeable staff, fair price. Scored myself a hat that fits like a glove and has been getting me constant compliments. So many cool little things in here to check out, wish I’d had more time, I’m definitely going to head back and check it out again here shortly, and buy some cool vintage swag to wear on stage. Refreshing to have a clothing store just for men.

Best vintage men’s store around and in Orange County. Very knowledgeable staff and always has a great selection of clothing that I’m interested in from the early 1900’s. The owner is a really nice guy and has a wealth of knowledge about everything he has in his store. I love this place.

This store is a dream come true. Yeah, I’m not a guy, but I do have a husband, and he and I pop in here every time we’re in Orange.
We’re from Portland, and while some have called it a «Vintage Mecca» due to our large amount of vintage stores, we really have nothing like Joyride. At Joyride you’ll find everything to make a man dapper from sun up to sun down. There is a wonderful selection of casual daywear, great jackets, hats from fedoras to boaters, suits from the 30s through the 60s and ties to go with all of ‘em. The items are in pristine condition too! There’s often more we want to take home than we’re capable of!
The owner is a wealth of knowledge, and extremely nice too. He conducts himself and his business superbly.

Class, functional class for Men.
This is what you find at Joyride: Vintage for Men. It may say vintage, but do not confuse the establishment with any of the antique shops near the Chapman Circle were it is located.
What you have here is an actual stylish clothing store where you can deck yourself to the nines with garments and accessories that just happen to be from bygone eras. Hats, shirts, pants, vests, spats, jackets, canes, watches, cigar and cigaret accessories from the turn of the century through epic eras like the 1920s, 40’s, 50’s, including some samples from the «far out» decades.
The choices are no only limited to civilians. Military fashion and gear is also present, from different countries and Military events (from a full WWI/​WWII French officer uniform, to US Army Eisenhower jackets and US Navy’s pea coats).
Vest yourself with 1920s straw boaters, top hats or a homburg hat, fedoras from the 50’s, with matching accessories such as cuff-​links, ties, cravats, wallets, cigarette holders, and flint lighters like Zippos.
Want to feel the actual grooming experience fro, this golden time? S. Actual items such as straight razors, shaving kits, cologne bottles (mostly depleted, but refillable with your favorite brand), are available in store. The word here is, again, functional with almost everything in this store.
The also have a tailor in retainer, and they offer some minor repair services for such items as hats, in situ.
Other offerings go from the normal fare to the odd (the medical instrument sections from the early part of the 20^th century was quite… interesting). There is olden boys toys, Military gear such as German Wehrmacht helmets (both WWI and WWII), gas masks, hat holding boxes, suitcases, jewelry, and miscellaneous knick knacks of ever sort.
The place may be small, but it feels open and welcome, a short stone throw from a wide range of local restaurants and diners (don’t feel like driving?, Metrolink Orange Station will deposit you two streets from it). The prices go from fair to some in the «hmm, but worth it» range, and the staff is beyond outstandingly polite and helpful.
Caveats: Ah, here’s the rub. But luckily, minor ones: Parking in Chapman Circle (dare I say more?. Look for the parking lot behind Wahoo’s Fish Taco, one street down towards the Train Station), and, it’s Men only,… but, luckily, there is a shop called Elsewhere Vintage catering to Female costumers a few feet going towards the circle (sorry, I’m a lad, so I cannot provide information about this establishment). Shoes, I bloody forgot to inquire about them, so I can’t review these items, nor I can vouch that they carry them.
In short, one of the most spectacular small gem finds in a while. Shop or just visit, it will just make your day.
Edit August 2014: They have moved two stores down going Chapman East. Bigger location.

This is a one of a kind store! But come on guys, you said you would have shave ready razors! What happened? My guys are serious shavers and collectors! Where is that guy you promised that did razors? Come on, you missed out on Christmas, now Father’s Day is around the corner!!! Don’t let us down! I am starting to go looking for other venues. I don’t mind paying the price, but usable and collectible are a must!

It takes a lot to piqué my interest these days. It takes a lot to get me to write a good review. So when a gentleman comes walking into Elsewhere vintage to help the lass who works there fix the printer dressed like a bad ass from the 1920’s I’m going to follow him to see what’s up.
So upon entering Joyride I feel like a kid, well a manly kid, inside an awesome manly candy store. Everything in here is just fun. Clothing, ties, tie pins, lighters, memorabilia, shoes, music from the 1930’s. Just awesome.
Both of the employees who were there that day were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and completely understanding that I was a complete newbie to all that was around me. They took their time with me and i am very grateful.
Any chance I get I will be coming here and seeing what great new (old) products they have. Check this place out.

I can be an intolerant, snarky prick when it comes to gentlemen with Depression Era hobo get-​ups and waxed, villainous moustaches. But this shop makes me jettison this tendency; it truly lights a firework display within the dark, velvet nightscape of my soul.
Rarely does one find a vintage store dedicated to that dying breed: the inner-​fop. Rarely does one stumble upon a vintage store with a purist streak and, paradoxically, little of the arrogance that, like saran wrap, clings to it. In this little time capsule-​shrine to grey flannel and musk, I can easily spend the better part of a good hour, enjoying, appreciating and reminiscing upon the assemblage of found objects that await reincarnation (like Jesus as lamb!) upon the shoulders of «just the right man.» I love reacquainting myself with all that man-​paraphernalia – combs, pins, cufflinks and lighters – set appealingly in glass displays like a collection of arrowheads belonging to a dying breed of modern-​day mohicans.
Of course, I no longer don entire vintage ensembles; unlike the extremely helpful young men who people the store, I am beholden to sartorial exigencies that are more workaday. In the faded glory of a foil-​wrapped youth, I could decide on a whim to dress like a debauched heir to a Gilded Age fortune or a cub reporter who plays a crucial role in a film noir classic. Nowadays, as a concession to a moment in my past, bowties – little itty bitty ones, preferably wool in the winter – grace my neck five days of the week. Joyride boasts a fantastic selection. To be sure, they come dear: a bit over 20 greenbacks for a little piece of slippery, silken non-​cloth. But this is less than I would pay for a shoddy modern tie. And only a bit more than I would shell out to avoid the scrounge of a thrift store. So, right now, I’ll probably mosey down to pick out an old, skinny one for the celebration of the fat New Years.

When I think of vintage shops at the Orange Circle, dark and gloomy comes to mind. But not at this little joint.
The first thing I noticed was how bright and neat everything was. Second thing that came to mind was everything in the shop reminded me of my fashion savvy grandfather. Everything from the tailored jackets to the intricately designed leather shoes to the vintage cameras gave this store a whole lot of character.
It’s one of those shops where you want to take a picture of everything because IT IS JUST SO DARN COOL!
Definitely worth a visit.

Though I am obviously not a guy I still popped in here to check out the brother vintage shop to Elsewhere Vintage. All that I can say is that this place is great. I was on a mission to find a vintage 80’s denim jacket for my Halloween costume. This place is by far so organized and clean. The owner was in here and we chatted up a little about WWII clothing I guess you can say. I learned something new as well. Apparently the flight jackets/​bomber like coats are called A2. I told him I was thinking of being a WWII fighter pilot zombie and that I couldn’t find those jump suits long enough to fit my never ending like torso. He had offered to pull some out for me but by this point I had a new idea and was over hunting. The owner is knowledgeable when in comes to vintage sans the elitist attitude that some vintage buffs have.
So, happy that they opened this store. Though I don’t have to buy vintage for a guy I would still pop in here to check it out. They have everything from rad vintage beanies, coats, luggage and accessories. I LOVE IT!
For the ladies pop over a few doors down to Elsewhere Vintage! Thank god they brought something different to the circle.
