History

Established in 1990.

Dr. Owens is a pioneer of weight loss surgery, 22 years of experience in Bariatric surgery, medicine and patient management.

To date, he has performed approximately 8,000 weight loss surgeries, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and adjustable gastric banding procedures.

Dr. Owens was one of the original 20 surgeons in the country chosen by Allergan (maker of the Lap Band) in the initial launch their Lap Band product.

He was the first in Southern California performing sleeve gastrectomy. His «Inverted Corner Gastric Sleeve» technique, developed to minimize heartburn and prevent leaks has been published in the premier journal for weight loss: SOARD.

His experience led him to expertise in complex revision surgeries, care for seniors and other high risk patients.

His management of bariatric patients both pre and post op make him a trusted choice for all patients seeking safe surgery and great outcomes.

Milt Owens MD FACS: Stanford BA, McGill MDCM, Internship and Surgical Residency University of Utah, Nephrology Kidney Transplant Fellowship University of Utah, Major United States Army, Assistant Professor UCLA and Chief Kidney Transplant Service VA Wadsworth Hospital. He later began bariatric surgery and private practice in association with Dr. Carl Hill in San Pedro, California who developed and patented the ‘Hill gastric clip’ for weight loss. Dr. Owens did a brief preceptorship with Dr. Edward E Mason founder of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and inventor of the vertical banded gastroplasty and gastric bypass operations.Dr. Owens is a frequent guest on both radio and television. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and served as its Chairman of Public Education Committee from 1999 – 2001.
