We never leave a job incomplete. We employ passionate project managers and craftsman that treat the job as if it were their own backyard.

History

Established in 1981.

Alan Smith started plastering pools in 1974 and quickly became a crew foreman within two years. After gaining tremendous experience in a short amount of time, he decided to open Alan Smith Pool Plastering in 1981. He was instrumental in helping found the National Plasterers Council in 1989 after seeing a need for the industry to adopt professional standards and organize. In 2007, Alan saw a great need for larger scale pool remodels, so in addition to plaster, tile and coping services; Alan Smith Pool Plastering now offers plumbing, electrical, pool equipment, masonry, and decking services were added to help meet the demand for a full service contractor.

Jeff, son of Alan and Teresa Smith, began working at ASP full time in 2010 after completing his B.S. in Business Administration from Cal State San Bernardino. Jeff enjoys the challenge of growing the sales of the company and is proud to be a part of the family business his father and mother have built the past 34 years. Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children.

Plaster and pebble finish. Very nice I must say the crew arrived at 10:30 a.m. set up and started working by 11 AM they completed the job a litter after 2. There Work was worth five stars I cannot complain however my hose was used and left unrolled and attached. My pool brush poll is missing or misplaced I haven’t really looked for it but they used my hosed maybe they moved my poll. And this hurts my tile that I just payed 600 dollars to clean needs cleaning again. Tomorrow is the acid wash I hope that cleaned off the residue besides all that the pool looks beautiful they did a great job. I’ll keep you posted on the acid wash and treatment.

Our 35 year old pool has been redone by Alan Smith Pool Plastering. It’s plastering and so much more. From the sales person to the final water treatment specialist, we have had an outstanding experience and our pool looks wonderful. It’s a larger company with specialized crews for every step of the process. All work was done with precision and artistry. We could not be happier!

I emailed first to setup an appt. for a quote on remodeling my pool. I didn’t hear back after a few days. Then, I sent a 2nd email. I did hear back from a lady. She asked what kind of pool I had. This, after I had told which kind of pool I had. Then her follow-​up emails to me stated what Alan Smith Pool did not do. Since communications can get misconstrued by email, I decided to call their office. When I called a male answered the tel. and screened my phone call. He told me female I was looking for was not at her desk, etc. This, after she had just sent me an email. Then, not even a minute after placing this call, I get a caller-​ID call back from this female clerk. This person was not helpful and was unprofessional and unfriendly. Overall, she told me what Alan Smith Pool did not do instead of what they did do. I had never had a prospective company this negative. This, while I was only trying to get more information and to have someone provide a bid for a pool remodel. I couldn’t believe what I was experiencing from this person. All this while I wasn’t even yet their customer.
I had carefully read all the wonderful written reviews here at Unilocal.I did learn not to trust the reviews. Clearly this person provided me poor customer service in email and over the telephone. It’s nice to have office staff cover other members of the same staff. Surely smart readers will see through this experience. Clearly I explained I wasn’t looking for work on a fiberglass pool. I have a fiberglass pool which I wanted to get rid of was what I related in two separate emails. It’s fine. This company will continue to be the great customer-​service company it is. Smart customers will read and make their own decision.
For anyone who’s looking for to remodel their pool, be careful. And, I wouldn’t use this company.

Before choosing a company, I researched different businesses and spoke with friend about their pool remodels. After receiving bids and seeing an A rating on Angie’s List, I decided to use Alan Smith Pools. They were patient and responsive to changes that I made during the remodel. I received daily email updates and calls to inform me of progress and next steps throughout. The office staff and project managers responded quickly and pleasantly in communications. It was exciting to see the progress. I totally love my pool-​thank you, Alan Smith Pools!

We recently had our pool refurbished by Alan Smith Pools and it was a very good experience. We initially received quotes from 3 companies and selected Alan Smith because the price was fair and the sales experience was much better with them than the other two companies. Choosing a company for a big job like this can be stressful but they spent a lot of time discussing options and making suggestions regarding material choices etc. That helped put us at ease. The other companies just dropped off some brochures and that was about it.
During construction they always kept us informed on what was going on and were happy to answer our endless questions. When we encountered the weirdness inevitable in a remodel everything was handled quickly and professionally.
In the end we got a beautiful pool that we will enjoy for many years to come. If we had to do it all over we would definitely choose Alan Smith Pools again.

This is an interesting situation for me. I would love to give Alan Smith pools 5 stars because my pool is perfect. I’m thrilled with the pebble finish, the new tile, and the precast coping is exactly what my wife and I had hoped it would be. Along the way there were a couple of changes that needed to be made and they were made absolutely the way I hoped they would be. The one challenge that ended up taking away a star is some concrete work that was not done by their own in house crew. Alan Smith pools in-​house team was spectacular and I believe they all know what is expected of them from Alan. If part of your job requires subcontractors not employed by Alan Smith just be sure that your superintendent is completely on top of what they are doing. As far as refurbishing a pool goes I would highly recommend Alan Smith pools.

Alan Smith Pool Plastering offered excellent detailed customer service from start to finish. My spa was built in 1989 and in desperate need of a remodel. I appreciated the attention I received in selecting the tile and coping and also the reliability and promptness of the contractors. The end result is a beautiful remodeled spa. I’m very please and would strongly recommend Alan Smith Pool to whoever is considering building or remodeling.

I asked Alan Smith Pool Plastering for a bid to get a clients (I’m a realtor) pool re-​plastered. They were prompt, knowledgeable, offered competitive pricing, and were friendly. We needed the pool re-​plaster done ASAP so my client could put his home on the market for sale. Alan Smith rearranged their schedule to accommodate our timing needs. I have a beautiful resort style pool with beach entry, reef and waterfall. The finish is a gorgeous Caribbean color Hydrazo. Well there was a spot that was rusting through from the rebar that needed to be repaired. Apparently there are very few companies that can work with Hydrazo. Alan Smith pools is one of the few.
Even though it was just a tiny job for them they were very responsive to me, treated me very nicely and were quick to get the job done. They were very professional and now my beautiful pool is rid of the ugly rust spot!

Alan Smith did my pool 20 years ago, so when it was time to refurbish, I went with the tried and true, and could not be happier with the new pebble finish, pump, filter, and heater. They were not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for, and it was a fair price. A special shout out to George, Ray, and Tina.

Project — Replace pool/​spa plaster, waterline/​step/​trim tiles, lights, skimmer/​skimmer decking, heater, plumbing, electrical, deck-​o-​seal, split main drain and reset bullnose coping. Entire project completed in 30 working days.
I am very satisfied with the quality of materials and workmanship of Alan Smith Pools. The pool looks brand new! They utilize all in-​house crews. They were very competitive with their pricing. They provide a 10 year guarantee on the pool plastering.
Mr. Don Applerose was the sale person. He was friendly and knowledgeable in all aspects of pool features and product selection. He answered all my questions and assisted with final pricing details.
Alan Smith Pools would email me the day before to inform you that a crew was scheduled to be onsite and perform their work. Every crew was hardworking and experts in their field. The foreman would answer your questions and explain what they were doing. They left the pool area like they found it, clean. They put plastic sheeting down on the driveway and street so no oil drips or materials would stain and cleaned up everything very well.
Alan Smith Pools has a project manager for every project. Mr. Rusty Peterson was the onsite project manager. He was there every step of the way. He met me the first day when they were removing the plaster and tile. Rusty is a courteous, knowledgeable and a true professional in pool construction. He is a bright, articulate BYU graduate. He explained every step of the way and ensured I was completely satisfied with each phase of the project. He assisted me when the city inspector came to sign off on the building permit.
I would highly recommend Alan Smith Pools to anyone considering a new pool or remodeling an existing pool. They did a great job! I spent six months researching pool companies and personally met with many, gathering information and contacting several customers for referrals.

A friend of ours recently did a pool remodel so when my wife and I decided to re-​model our pool, we decided to get a bid from Alan Smith Pools. Alan came to our house within two days of my initial call, and i liked him and he seemed to know what he was talking about. The research I did on them seemed to be all positive so we decided to go with them without getting any other bids.
Well, I can only say that the whole process was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. At every stage of the job, I received phone calls from the manager on the job, daily emails telling me what the next step was and who would be at our house the next day and what time. At no time did I not know what was going on, and the work crew were on time every day, and they even cleaned up the yard every day.
From our visit to the showroom to pick out materials, all the way through to the final inspection, everything went like clockwork. The job was done on budget and there were no surprises… and the pool looks amazing!
I would recommend Alan Smith Pools 100%.

There isn’t anything bad i can say about this company! They just completed my pool re-​plastering renovation and they went above and beyond my expectations. First off Jeff (Sales Coordinator) is very knowledgable in the services offered by his company. He is not pushy and gives the pros and cons of every possible choice and lets the customer choose what they want. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs this service.

Alan Smith Pools does do a good job and my pool looks great. The customer service with this company is lacking and so is their attention to details. Alan Smith came out to take the measurements of the pool. He did not do a thorough inspection. Once my pool was finish I noticed I was losing a lot of water due to my piping and filter. Things that I knew Alan had looked at. 2000 dollars later they were refinished by another company.
During the pool resurfacing, I would get a call the day before any work, which was nice. They were on time and were quick. The only issue was during the construction of my solar panels. There was an issue with inspections and I would not hear from them for weeks at a time. I didn’t know where we were in the process and I found I was being charged by HB for re inspections for screw ups Allan’s company made. Totaling my estimated 300 – 600 inspection fees to 800 dollars. I think my major issue with this is not being told how inspections were going. Living with a ditch in my backyard for months on end.
I am a novice when it comes to caring and cleaning a pool. I had already hired a pool guy, but Allan’s team began the treatment for the pool. Before checking any of the filters or equipment, they began using the pump and filter. White particles filled my pool due to the poor condition of my filter. I did not know the condition of the filter and was amazed Allan’s team did not check this before turning on the pumps. Luckily for me I was able to talk to someone about replacing the filter and was able to do this myself. I had to fix the issue they had created from not advising me of this possible problem.
I like Allan and his company. Everyone was very nice and professional. As a new pool owner though I thought I would be advised of things that might need to be done before my pools work was finished. After all the hiccups, my pool is finished and my family is enjoying it thoroughly. The only thing I am still trying to find out is the rebates Allan claimed I could get by installing my solar panels is true. From looking on line with SCE I have only found that there is no funding for this rebate. I hope this is not true but another claim Allan had made about getting a loan for my project was found to be false. I don’t think Allan was miss leading in saying these things but may have not been fully informed.

The worst customer service and workmanship we have ever experienced. Do not use this company! The concrete they poured in our backyard has permanent stains/​damage/​discoloration that will never go away! Permanently damaged concrete is not an industry standard as they state it is… Why use a company that is ok with poor quality and half ass workmanship??? They quoted us 4 – 6 months to complete our front and back yard and the entire job took just shy of a year!!! Days would go by with no work being done on our job and no communication to explain why! When work finally resumed it was done incorrectly and not to the plans that had been originally agreed upon. Seriously, do not use this company! Go elsewhere! Beware of Alan Smith.

Although we had a few bumps in the road, Alan Smith Pools came thru with a beautiful refinishing of our pool and spa. We chose to have the Pebble Tec and it is truly beautiful with the tiles we chose. We did a lot of research before deciding to do business with this company. Alan is a hands on owner and came to our home to answer particular questions that we had prior to starting the job.
We would especially like to thank Ray, our project manager who worked tirelessly to resolve issues that popped up. His handling of these made all the difference in the world.
I would say that clear communication is the key to a successful outcome.
We hope to enjoy our beautiful new pool and spa for many years to come.

I also disagree with Rose. We had 3 estimates to resurface and reconfigure our pool and Allen Smith came in with the best bid and also came up with a good plan on making our pool shallower, repiping and adding a baja shelf. He was recommended to us by a friend who was also very pleased with his service.
We also changed out the tile at the water line and went with a pebble tec instead of plaster. They were prompt, got the job done in the time they estiimated. They worked with us on picking the color of the pebble tec and even arranged for us to see some of their customers finished pools. We were extremely pleased with their prompt and courteous service and the finished results. We love our beautiful new pool.

Alan is very personal and engaged in all of his projects. He is very well known in the pool industry for high standards and quality work. If you do your research you will find this company far superior over the others in Orange County.
I like how the sales team is very good at discussing design and working within your budget.
I’m hoping to build a small pool in my yard and their knowledge on how to work within my limited space was really helpful. I need a pool to not over crowd my small space but to enhance my yard. They do all looks and designs, big or little jobs.
