Above It All Ceilings and Drywall

After getting several estimates for the removal of popcorn ceiling material in my three bedroom townhouse, I chose Dana and his team from Above It All. His pricing was very fair.
Dana’s team arrived on time and were professional. Once the job was completed they made sure everything was cleaned up and put back the way they found it.
I would recommend Dana and his team any time.

So I have been holding off on reviewing Above It All for just about a year now because I generally don’t like to complain and cause problems, but what happened a couple days ago as a result of their work, I’ve decided that I’ve had enough.
About a year ago I hired Dana and Above It All to remove my popcorn ceilings, retexture my walls, paint the interior of my condo, and repair some unwanted damage from the previous owners wall decorations (all of that together is not cheap). I found Above It All on Unilocal and was impressed with his reviews and also his professionalism when he came out to bid the job.
The job started out perfectly normal, the workers showed up on time every day and were very courteous. I would swing by the house about once a day to check up on them and from all indications they were doing a great job. On day 2 of the job I received a call from Dana and he was FURIOUS. He was yelling and insulting me and was very unprofessional. Apparently we had a misunderstanding about how I was supposed to prep the downstairs bathroom before they came in to retexture and repair it. I will admit that I removed more drywall than I should have before they arrived and he was livid that they now had to replace it. He continued to berate me and tell me «clearly you have no idea what you’re doing» and «how in my right would I expect him to fix that, that I have no idea what I’m doing». I started to get angry and expressed back to him that I was a first time homeowner and I did NOT know what I was doing but that did not give him the right to yell and scream at me and insult me. I started to raise my voice back telling him that I was sorry I removed too much drywall but that he should not treat me the way that he was. He started to calm down, apologized for insulting me and then hung up. I understood I had to pay more to fix my mistake but he was so unprofessional, you should never yell at and insult a customer.
The bathroom got fixed and 2 days later the house was «complete». Dana NEVER walked the job site to inspect his workers work and didn’t even bother to call me once they were done to see if I was happy with their work. I strictly only dealt with his workers. As I inspected downstairs I was very pleased with all of their work and then proceeded to go upstairs to inspect the work they did upstairs. Because the downstairs was done so nicely I assumed the upstairs would reflect the same quality of work so I quickly glanced around the room and gave the workers the OK. It was not until a couple weeks later when we finally moved in that I started to see how bad they had done upstairs. Here is a short list of what they did wrong upstairs:
— They did not repair all of the damaged parts of the walls as requested and paid for.
— They sealed around the thermostat so it could not be removed from the wall.
— They painted OVER the door to the attic furnace so it would not open anymore.
— They retextured the walls upstairs with «canned texture» instead of using the spray machine so the spots they «fixed» were a completely different texture and stuck out like a sore thumb. The texture was completely different.
Needless to say I was mortified with the quality of work upstairs. I’m assuming different workers worked upstairs than downstairs because I don’t understand how there could be such a quality difference. I have lived with the uneven and chunky texture on the walls upstairs now for about a year and every time I come home from work I regret hiring Dana.
The last straw was last week when I decided to change out my old thermostat for a new smart Wi-​Fi thermostat. I went to remove the old thermostat from the wall and realized that the workers had sealed the thermostat to the wall and then painted around it so it could not be removed without damaging the paint and drywall. Also, when I went to go into the attic to access the furnace I realized that they had completely painted over the door to the attic and I had to pry open the door with a screwdriver which not only damaged the paint but also damaged the door itself. Needless to say I am absolutely livid now which is why I am finally sitting down and writing this review.
I want to call Dana and tell him how bad of a job he did, but after the last time we talked on the phone (the bathroom issue) and experienced how unprofessional he was, I do not know if he would even care about what his workers did in my house. It is very unfortunate that it had to come to this because in my line of work a lot of my clients ask me for references on drywaller’s and painters and if he would’ve done the job that I paid him for I would’ve brought him a lot of business.
Maybe he will read this and attempt to contact me and rectify the problem, but like I said before if our last phone conversation is any gauge of his professionalism I do not expect to hear from him. I would love for him to come out and complete the work I paid him for but who knows.

After removing ugly wood paneling from a couple of our walls we were left with lots of glue, peeled paper, uneven and un-​textured drywall. After contacting several companies for quotes and recommendations we decided to go with Above It All. Dana provided very fair pricing and his crew did an excellent job in repairing and texturing our drywall. There is absolutely no trace of the damage left by the wood paneling that was removed. Their team was very professional and courteous. They covered our walkways and furniture around the walls so nothing was damaged and there wasn’t even construction dust left when they left. We definitely recommend Above It All!

We have come to be repeat customers of Above It All Ceiling and Drywall due to their professionalism and quality of work. The scope of work has included: drywall installation, patchwork, applying new texture, matching current texture (no easy task), primer and even paint.
Each time the crew has arrived on time, finished on time, removed all traces of their work, and left the property dust free and clean. We’ve received calls from our tenants expressing their appreciation for the «drywall vendor» we utilize, as they too, found them to be clean and courteous.
This entity is licensed, insured and produces a certificate of insurance when it comes to workers comp.
Those we have referred to Above It All Ceiling and Drywall have been equally pleased with the quality of their work.

What a joke. We called and got Dana to come out and give us an estimate. He said we needed to redo our complete entry ceiling. We got a bid from the Dana — owner and scheduled the work. He told us he would need extra equipment because we have 20 foot ceilings. Told us he was on Angie’s list and gave us references. We checked Unilocal all good. His workers come to our house, talked in Spanish to each other and walk around pointing and shaking their head. I asked them if there was a problem? They said they don’t have the right ladders for the job or a scaffold. I said well can you get them? I am off work and staying home today to get this done. They said the ladders are on another job. They we’re going to wait outside until the ladders came. They they tell me they talk to the owner and he said he misquoted the job it will increase by $ 600! Also I need to reschedule. They said the owner doesn’t alwayssay everything on the bids???
My husband called Dana and reminded him that he came to our house, saw our ceiling and gave us a bid. In good faith we accepted the bid and scheduled the work — he was not cheaply priced either, just seemed to know what needed to be done… obviously not. Dana said he underbid it and he had to increase the bid because it was too low.
This is BAIT and SWITCH how unethical!!! They shouldn’t even get one star!

Above it all did a great job for me. They put in 10 can lights, scraped my ceilings, and did some painting. The finished product was better than I could have imagined and they left my place cleaner than they found it. I’d recommend them anytime.

I would not recommend Above it All roofing. They were scheduled to come do a drywall repair on my ceiling on a Saturday, I called on Friday to confirm, and I get a call an hour before they are supposed to arrIve on Saturday that they can no longer come. When I tried to reschedule they said that they cannot come for another month. I had done a lot of preparation before they came, and am very upset with the service that I have received.

Hey I picked these guys based on the reviews I read on Unilocal.I am very happy I went with Dana and his crew! They painted and textured my entire garage for a reasonable price. I had the city unexpectedly come out to my project and the city passed it all with flying colors. It truly helps that Above It All is lic and bonded. I highly recommend that you use this company. I thought for years about my popcorn ceilings. They were so dirty and collect dust. Removing the stuff was such an overwhelming idea. I began to search online for an alternative.
Then I found Dana’s Above It All. In a few days I had an appointment and a price! They could spray paint and seal the popcorn on at a very reasonable cost.
Two men arrived and worked non stop all day. Prepping the 3 bedroom place… they meticulously covered all my furniture and floors with thin plastic prior to painting. .it looked eerie.
Amazingly I heard singing and laughing going on as they worked! They were very kind and respectful. Total professionals.
I hung around because I had my birds and a small dog on the balcony. At the end of the day I was exhausted .and I had done nothing but read a book. The technicians were still cheerful… I was amazed at their energy and attitude.
2^nd day they finished up… took almost all day again. The clean up left my place spotless. The work done is perfect.
My ceilings make my whole condo look so bright and clean, now.
I have never hired painters before. What a great experience! Thanks so much for a great job.

I grew up in the construction industry, so the drywall craft is second nature. I recently called «Above It Drywall» to do some work in my house because the job was just too BIG for me to handle. I got their number through an advertisement in the mail (one of those pesky postcards). Best of all, they are licensed (890 858) unlike those other flyers that you get. If you are one of those that just tosses them out, you are doing yourself a big dis-​service when it comes to drywall repair.
Being a firm believer of getting three proposals, I got four in this case. «Above It Drywall» wasn’t the cheapest; however, they were the only company that knew how to do skip trowel finish on my ceiling. Skip trowel is a forgotten art. I was very impressed that when the crew, they took time to tape off my wood/​carpeted floors so that they wouldn’t get damaged. There was three to four locations that they fixed and they even completed a knockdown texture and made it match the existing. Not bad for texture that was done over 40 years ago.
I try to call «Above It Drywall» for all of my remodel work. However, like any good contractor they stay busy. So if your schedule allows, give them a few days notice. Thanks Dana, keep up the great work.

Above It All Drywall is a great company! They did some drywall repair and painting for us. Their employees did a great job patching and painting. The prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this company; I definitely plan on hiring them again.

I hired Dana after 3 painters/​ceiling vendors got the job and then DIDN’T SHOW UP. Dana rearranged his schedule in order to make my construction schedule. The only drawback is that he does not take credit card. However, he was flexible and was willing to accept my payment through Google Wallet (even though he admittedly was not accustomed to using this kind of payment technology). Here are the things that Dana did that most other contractors DO NOT DO:
1. Call you back
2. Show up on time
3. Clean up
Factor number 2 alone makes this guy worth it. Oh yah, the prices were reasonable. Don’t get me wrong. There are cheaper guys out there (more expensive as well). However, this is an honest, hard working guy. If you don’t want to mess around and stress about a project, call Dana.

They did really nice work on my kitchen remodel. Will definitely recommend them and use them again as we do more of the house

I hate hiring contractors. There are so many hack contractors in Southern California it’s sickening. I’ve been in the electrical construction industry for 20 years so I know what good work is and what professionalism is when I see it. Above it All is a great example of an honest and professional contractor. I had 900 square feet of plaster popcorn ceiling smoothed out, skim coated, textured, and painted by these guys and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. The whole process took 2 days. One day of smoothing, coating, and texture. The next painting. They did an amazing job of keeping things clean. For those of you that don’t know it’s about as dirty of a job as it gets so keeping it as clean as they did was impressive. I’m extremely happy with Dana and his crews work. Thanks guys! Will hire again for sure!

Dana and his crew did a great job doing several drywall repairs throughout our home in Orange. They had the best quote on the job, almost ½ of what another large company wanted to charge and the guys were extremely professional, neat, clean and quick. They left zero mess behind and took two half days as estimated and i didn’t have to pay until the job was complete.
They were very reliably and easy to work with

Dana and his crew did a acoustic ceiling removal, drywall repair, and kitchen lighting remodel changing the fluorescents to a dropped ceiling with can lights. Dana came by for the quote and laid out a step by step clear bid for the project. He itemized each step which allowed me to pick and choose parts of the project. Once I said to go ahead, the crew was on time, clean, and professional. This project was back in October and since then there have been no issues and I am completely satisfied with how things turned out. I would not hesitate to use Above it All again. Thanks Dana!

I have had Dana’s guys come out to my house twice. They removed the popcorn ceilings the first time for $ 1200. My house is 1471 square feet and most of it had the popcorn. Dana’s price was less than half of what two other guys quoted me. His employees, Urbano and another guy, did a great job too.
The second time, Dana’s employees fixed several areas throughout the house that were damaged from wall paper removal. They also patched holes and textured walls that were damaged behind the old vanities in the bathrooms. The cost was $ 700.
You can find coupons in the mail that will get you $ 100 off a $ 1000 job.
In an ironic twist, my fiancé was talking to our neighbor two doors down about having drywall work done after we had already decided to go with Dana. He did not mention Dana to her, but she says, «Oh, I know a guy that does a great job. His name is Dana with Above it All.» That’s when we knew we had made the right choice.

Dana and the Above it All team just finished a job at a condo I am renovating to rent out in Yorba Linda.
Dana showed up on time and gave me an estimate on the spot. Included with his estimate was a copy of his contractors liability insurance (a rarity for contractor to have) and a list of references. Very impressive. After checking both, I called Dana and scheduled the job.
The drywall crew came in first, on time and as scheduled. They were a very nice group of guys and did a very good job on my place. The paint crew followed. They too were a nice couple of guys and did a nice job on the paint.
All in all, I am quite satisfied with my choice to use them.
I think the best part is Dana did not ask for any money up front to start the job. I paid when the job was finished and was happy with the work. I wish all contractors worked this way!
