The Gulf Shores Steamer serves the best steamed seafood in the area. The Steamer has been featured in USA Today, Southern Living, Coastal Living and many other noted periodicals. We have the best royal red shrimp and crab legs in the coastal area. We also serve hand-​cut ribeyes, filet mignon, chicken and a daily fresh catch. We have a children’s menu. We specialize in large platters of steamed seafood that may feed 2 to 6 people. We also offer outdoor dining on our patio that overlooks the marina. You can sit and watch the charter fishing boats come and go. Others may try to copy us, but we are the original. We are still steamin’ 20 plus years. Come see what the critics rave about. It’s casual dining in a laid back coastal atmosphere.

History

Established in 1989.

The Gulf Shores Steamer is family owned and operated. We have been serving the best steamed seafood since 1989! The Gulf Shores Steamer was founded by Debra Flott. Sadly, she passed away in 2006. Then Debra’s daughter, Ashley Ouellette and her husband Jeff Price decided to keep The Gulf Shores Steamer steamin’ up the best steamed seafood in the area. Ashley had managed for her mother from 1995 to 1999. Debra’s dream continues to only get better. We are now located in beautiful SanRoc Cay in Orange Beach, AL. Our new address is 27 267 Perdido Beach Blvd, Suite 115, Orange Beach AL, 36 561.

Ashley Ouellette has been in the restaurant business since 1995. She started as a manager at the Gulf Shores Steamer in 1995. She has worked at restaurants and golf course for the past 15 years. Her passion is delicious food. She enjoys meeting new friends. She is absolutely enjoying The Gulf Shores Steamer being located in SanRoc Cay. It is such a beautiful location. Please come visit Ashley Ouellette and her husband Jeff Price at their new and better location in SanRoc Cay.

Just had baked oysters that were not hot and took about 5 minutes to get. I think they microwaved them just long enough to melt the cheese. Also had the gumbo that had tiny canned shrimp in it. Pretty sad to come to the Gulf where they advertise local King Red shrimp and get canned shrimp in the homemade Gumbo. Very disappointed!

We’ve only had the platter so that’s all I can speak to. But it’s delicious!!! Fresh, hot and bountiful. It’s not a comfortable place. The seats are hard and the lighting is «tell the truth» LED over every table… we unscrewed the light bulb. However, the Steamer Platter is worth the drive!!!

Found this diamond of a restaurant in Orange Beach while having lunch with relatives in town. Nothing is fried, which is a good thing. Delicious food, whether it’s steamed, broiled, or grilled. There oysters and shrimp are some of the biggest you will find. Affordable pricing and family combinations. Staff are very friendly, plenty of big screens to watch the game. Located across from the ocean right in the bay. I will be back!

We waited too long for food. We were seated and then waited for almost 1 hour to be served. Had to tell the waitress when our drinks needed to be filled. The food was good, but not likely to return because of the service! It wasn’t THAT good. We were about to get up and leave. Very disappointing :(

I don’t believe this place is anything to brag about and wouldn’t likely eat here again. The shrimp skewer appetizer is over priced and was way too salty. I also had the chef salad, which didn’t seem too fresh. We did receive good service from the young woman waiting on us, but otherwise I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. Convenient, but not quality.

If you are looking for middle of the road eatable seafood with screaming kids then Steamers is your place. Pretty good crab legs and steamed head on shrimp (steamed reds). Mussels were inedible and the butter was not clearified. Service is some what to be desired and elusive.

Definitely need to train their staff on proper etiquette and friendliness. The hostess ignored us as she ran around doing mundane tasks at closing time.
Ruby Red Shrimp — not deveined or butterflied. Most were big and meaty, but the shells didn’t come off too easily.
Potatoes and corn served with meal were all extremely mushy and overcooked
Coleslaw however was excellent! Definitely tastes freshly made — probably in house, heavy on the black pepper. This is a mayo based coleslaw.
Steamed mussels were excellent in flavor, though most were lacking in size. It’s enough food for a meal for 1 with a side salad, or to split with 2 people as an app.
Crab cake sandwich — crispy, thin patty served on a toasted buttery bun. It was good, but not great. Was kinda bland, needed seasoning.
No sauce served with it.
Served with lays potato chips.

My wife and I came here with some friends at their demand. This was a must visit on their list, and I now understand why. We had the best seafood of our entire vacation here at this restaurant!
The atmosphere is ultra laid back. The outdoor seating is obviously the place to be as the view was great, and every table was packed. We had to sit indoors, but will hope for a chance to do more than look off the patio at the boats in the harbor area there from their deck.
To get things started we had the crab cakes. These are the best crab cakes I’ve ever had! They didn’t skimp on the crab meat, and the seasoning was amazing!
My wife and I had a giant plate for two. The Small Steamer was a good combination of 4 crab clusters, 2 pounds of shrimp, 4 steamed oysters, and ½ pound of mussels. We were so stuffed! Everything was spot on and delicious!

I love that nothing is fried in this place! A bit of a tourist trap, but all of the restaurants in this area are pretty pricey. My sister got the crab cakes (to die for) and I got the stuffed shrimp (so good). We sat at the bar and had some oysters (ok, but not in season in July). Our bartender was great, and everything came out in a timely manner. I wanted to come back and devour some crab cakes before we left but I never got the chance. I’ll be back the next time I’m in the area! :)

I was visiting my mom and we were looking for a new seafood haunt. I really wanted some down and dirty crab so we tried Gulf Shores Steamer because they had a great price on a pound of legs.
We opted to sit at the bar as the restaurant is definitely a dive — wooden tables, paper towel rolls and tiny! The bar was the right choice as we had a fantastic young bartender I believe named John. He was very friendly, helpful and patient while we were being indecisive on our cocktail choices. We were at a dive… in Florida… at the beach. obviously we opted for ridiculous fruity drinks with umbrellas instead of our normal bourbon. The drinks were delicious.
Food was a much easier decision. I got 1 ½ lbs of crab legs with traditional sides of red potatos, corn and coleslaw. The coleslaw was bland and flavorless and the corn was pretty standard KFC corn… BUT, the crab was cooked perfectly. It was so buttery I barely needed to use the melted butter which I normally drink out of the cup… Gulf Shore Steamer also seasons the outside of crab with a bit of Old Bay style seasoning so it had a little extra kick that I enjoyed as well. I love red potatos so no complaints there. My mom enjoyed the crab stuffed shrimp. They were plump and a large portion and served with a jasmine rice.
I would definitely come back when I visit Florida again and will dream of stuffing my face with crab legs. It was definitely a dinner worth working for.

We had a delicious steamed platter for 2. Everything was cooked perfect. We sat at the bar where the service was perfect! The manager came out and talked to us and learned that we come to eat there every time we are in town and he gave us the local discount which was very nice of him! We will be back.

I am totally disappointed and can say will never recommend this place. The only good thing here was the waitress but even after being brought over cooked shrimp twice did not offer anything off the bill. What’s worse is that I brought a friend here from up north to eat the royal reds and he could not even peel them they were so overcooked. It looked like they were cooked in the morning and just sat there all day. We complained about the first plate and were then brought another that had a hug pile of shrimp parts at the bottom of the plate (I will post a picture). Many of the shrimp on the plate were also small as I thought royal reds were large gulf shrimp. I could have gotten the same size at the local grocery and cooked them myself and saved the $ 21.00 for the plate. Ambiance was very noisy with tons of families and kids everywhere running around. I know its the beach but just because your on vacation does not give you an excuse to take a vacation from parenting.
There are much better places along the beach for seafood this time of year. Try those.

I’ve worked in the restaurant biz for over 15 years and I am in my current position as a bar tender for 5 years. I understand that restaurants have bad days. Things just go wrong sometimes. I will just say a couple of things.
1. The older blonde short-​haired lady who greeted us seemed drunk to us. I am not sure if she was drunk or high or if she was just weird. Either way, it’s bad for business.
2. The royal reds were very overcooked. If steaming seafood is a restaurant’s specialty, my shrimp should be steamed correctly.
I felt cheated paying $ 30+ for something as disappointing as overcooked shrimp.
On a positive note, the server was nice and the flavor of the seafood was good. Peeling overcooked shrimp is not.

was here for vacation with 5 friends and sat outside by the harbor. The view was beautiful; however, after the sun went down we were covered with small, flea like bugs.
The food and service were good. I had the crab stuffed fish and it was delicious. The portion sizes were generous. Other than the bugs, this place has great food and is a change from the typical fried seafood in the area.

Great steamed seafood! Went here one evening with my in laws and my 2 year old. We ordered the platter for four and was not disappointed! Lots of oyster, mussels, crap legs, and of course the great Gulf shrimp! Great portion size and the wait staff was excellent! I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Gulf Shores or Orange Beach!

AMAZING. All boiled NOTHING fried! Absolutely loved our experience here. We ordered almost everything that looked good on the menu & it exceeded our expectations. Arrived when it was pretty crowded & didn’t even have to wait but 30 mins in which we used to walk around the marina. We ordered the crab cakes, Crab claws & the stuffed shrimp. Every one blowed our taste buds away. I recommend all of these appetizers. As for entrees, the crab clusters & grilled shrimp as well as the gumbo & their special of the day two pounds of crawfish. Crawfish & shrimp were cooked & seasoned perfectly. Lovely atmosphere & excellent service, very kind employees! (As well as sea salt scrub in the ladies bathroom (:)
Definitely will be coming back!
