Platt College

I attended Platt and earned an AA for paralegal studies. I graduated back in 2005. During that time, I worked at McDonald’s, went to Platt, and had an internship. Two weeks after I graduated, I found a job.
I have been working in the legal field for the last 11 years (working at one of the top firms in the I.E.)
The only downside was the cost. It is so so expensive!
As a side note, I also have a coworker who also went to Platt. So, yes, graduates do get jobs. Don’t believe all the negative reviews.

What a fricken joke! College is made to entrap young people into getting into debt, loans that you can not even bankrupt out of that stick with you for life and grow. The companies can not be contacted to make payments or adjust things, you have to call and listen for an hour to choose the automated system you want or send a check… The school didn’t really teach me anything I did not alread learn on my own and never sent me my actual degree! I have called many times leaving voicemails for it or trying to figure out how to get my piece of paper that says I know something. Their job placement program is you going to interviews with all of your classmates, graduates before you and those who are currently graduating. All classwork is the same so when you go into an interview your portfolio looks just like everyone else. Do not waste your money! Learn on your own and if you cant, thre is probably a job that is better fit for you elsewhere

Still the worst college I’ve attended. They don’t keep their end of the bargain while they expect students to do so also. They will sell you hopes and dreams, but it’s further from the truth. When I went out to my extern site, the office manager told me the cold truth about the field I studied for (Medical Administration) and said, «Platt College needs to stop lying to their students. It’s not right.» I would like to thank the office manager for warning me that I’ve been bamboozled since she works in the field. With additional research, it turns out the field I studied for is dead. Like I said, I graduated in 2012, but my degree is still collecting dust. I went to another school and at least they keep in contact with me and unlike Platt, at least they follow through my concerns. I got a job thanks for the skills taught from another school in a different field. If I had to redo it, I wouldn’t attend Platt College at all. If you think about attending Platt, be very cautious and at your own risk.

Left a review in 2011, leaving another one once again. Giving 1 star is being generous. If you read my prior review you’ll see what a negative experience I had in choosing to attend this school. As I said before the Associates program for Graphic Design wasn’t to shabby but once I went into the Bachelors program it went all downhill from there. Four years later have since passed and I am STILL having issues with my loans. In total I signed papers stating my AA and BA degrees combined would be $ 65 – 70,000. Someone please explain to me why, when I add up my loans borrowed, my parent plus loan, and the cash I paid while in school adds up to being over $ 105,000!!! There is no way in heck that I acrued $ 30 – 40,000 worth of interest in the amount of time I have left this place. Shady things were happening in my last 6 months there and I firmly believe shady, possibly illegal things, are still continuing. I am not even working in the industry which I received my degrees. ZERO assistance from the college then and now in helping me find a career in that field, ZERO assistance from the financial dept to help me better understand why my loans are so outrageous. From the reviews I have read about this place just within the last year I can see that things still have not improved. How is this school and others like it still up and running? Look at what happened to Everest, the Corinthian Colleges, and now 4D college. These private colleges are a joke!

I personally loved this school. I got by Bachelors Degree in Visual Communication Web Design. 2 Weeks after graduation Platt helped me get a job in the industry. That job did not work out so i went back to the career assistance and they helped me get a second job at TapouT. I have worked in the industry ever since. I am now a Web Director. I made good friends, had great teachers, the equipment was awesome. I have no complaints. College is what you make of it and what you take out of it when you leave. Learn what you can and apply it when you leave.

This college is for those who don’t have the time for regular college. Tired of people that do nothing but complain. Platt promised to give you a degree if you show up and do your work. This school can’t teach everything, but they focus on teaching how to find the answers to the questions you will experience in your chosen field of study. I graduated from this college in 2005, I found my own job 3 days after graduating. Don’t blame someone else for not getting you a job… earn your degree, and put yourself out in the marketplace. I graduated with an AS in computer science and like I said, went straight to work the same week I graduated. I went from $ 10/​he to over $ 20/​he with my degree. Don’t listen to these negative Nancy’s and start college, earn your degree and get your butt to work.

Zero help in job hunting & placement. The say they offer lifetime placement, but seems no effort on their part to send leads. Have tried connecting with career services multiple times and always a disappointment resulting in no job leads at all. Nothing!
Same for the other Platt College campuses. I just get referred around via email to career services and no one is helping with leads or anything.

Worst school i ever went to, and was dumb enuff to go back for multi media after my graphic design. School never helped me get work i found all my jobs myself, and the multi media cert. worthless i wished i wasn’t default on the 32,000 worth of loans because i just need a ba of any kind to find good work.

Worst school around, hands down! I did receive my degree, but thats it. Everything they sold to me was a lie. Attending this school was a waste of time, money and energy. I graduated in 2011 and to this present day still can’t get a job in the field. My interviewing skills are amazing, it was the lack of material they teach that keeps us from getting employed in our field. Trust me I still talk to students and they are also not in the field we studied.
My biggest regret was allowing this school to use up my financial aid and leave me in debt. Im now stuck because of this place!

Do not waste your $.
Go to a real college & get a real degree. I got my AA (Graphic Design) @ Platt. No real College would accept the credits, so I had to start from scratch. Moreover, begin to pay my student loan $ 24k w/​no job! Please! Save your time & Money… If you want to learn graphics buy programs & learn from tutorials, that’s what you do there or go to community college. Not even one star rating…

My daughter graduated from Platt College in December 2012 with her AA in RT. Since then, she has been unable to find ANY kind of employment in the industry — not because there aren’t jobs available, there are many but — because NO ONE will hire without a minimum of one year’s experience. There is not a one year internship offered with this school. She has gone back to the school several times asking for help but all they have offered is to place her name on the RT registry. She got a call immediately from the registry but they were unable to place her anywhere because she did not have the one year experience. Platt claims this is a new rule but when I surf the internet, I see blogs going back a number of years saying that a one year internship is mimimally required. Only one person in her class found a job and that person had to move across country to get it. Platt needs to rethink their curriculum and add 12 mos of internship to their course (and, don’t be fooled… clinicals don’t count!)

I contacted the school via their website, I requested a call back to set up a visit to the campus as I was interested in the RT program. A month went by without any reply so I decided to try my luck and call. I was put on hold for about 15 minutes which in it of itself was no big deal. Finally when my call was answered I was asked how they may direct my call. I explained to them that I had submitted an e-​mail but had not heard back from anyone, the young lady on the phone asked what program I was inquiring about. I explained that I wanted info on the RT school, she said she would transfer me to the director. After a few rings the same young ladies get back on the line with me and tells me the director is either away from his desk or not available. She asked for my name and number and assured me the director would call back. Flash forward another month and have not heard back from anyone. if this is the way they treat a prospective student I would hate to imagine how they would treat if they had gotten my money. I am sure I can find a quality education elsewhere and treats people with more respect.

I am currently a student in the DMS program. I am almost on my way to clinicals. I see that all the people on here complaining re in art design. The dms program is fantastic. I have never had such better teachers. I have learned so much I can’t even explain to you how in depth they can get in so little time. I love this school my classmates and my teachers. Even when I was just starting up I have never had a problem with admissions. These people are acting like babies maybe you are the ones that don’t know how to talk to people on the phone. Anywho I definatly recommend platt

This is a low-​end school if you’re studying design. Their associates program is okay if you want a basic education for a print career (but print is going the way of the do-​do bird… sooo…). Most design agencies will not be impressed with a degree from here, so be prepared to be a rather low-​end designer coming from this school.
I attended from 2002 – 2005 and had some good teachers in the core classes. I felt like the teachers did their best with the curriculum and speed of the classes (which are FAST; they cram a ton in a small amount of time). They offered helpful critique and tried to balance technical skill with whatever tips they could fit in to be a better designer.
The gen ed classes are a joke. I agree with the poster who said they were at HS level. However, they accept anyone who can pass their extremely basic entrance exam (prob middle school level) and get financial aid.
Many of my classmates were talented artists nonetheless, and the school catered to a more hands-​on way of learning than higher end design schools which may focus more on theory and techniques. You DO learn what you need to know on a print design job, but they don’t really teach or refine any natural sense of aesthetics.
However, this IS a technical school. You’re learning a skill more than getting an in-​depth education. You’ll come out knowing computer programs & with a portfolio, but you probably won’t understand higher concept design or become a better artist. This means you’ll land lower end design jobs which pay 25−35k, maybe 45k if you’re lucky & naturally a good artist.
I’ve been working as a print designer since I graduated, but I make the income of people who have never went to college (usually 35k or so). You could probably do what I do by self-​teaching & taking some intern gigs to get experience & build a portfolio. Their AA program might be worth it, as I learned most of what I know there & that’s the stuff that was most relevant to me getting work.
I say AVOID their Bachelor’s program. I was in the 2^nd graduating class, and I suppose we were guinea pigs, but I came out with very little I could use to get work & not feeling an expert at all. I did the 3D program and it was too scattered — they try and teach too much in too short of a time, and so you end up only knowing a little about a lot. 3D is a very specialized niche, so you really need to be an expert in one area to land a job in the MANY areas the program skims.
Perhaps their 2D program is better, but they did not offer it at the time. I suspect you will find the same design work with their AA, so just get out and get experience after that.
Their career counselor didn’t do very well. No one I graduated with ever was placed in a job upon graduating. I know a few who got steady design work like me, but we went out and hunted it down. This is NO guarantee for a job; it’s a place to learn a skill.
If you only want an AA & to learn a skill more than get an education, and you are prepared to go it alone job-​hunting, then this school is okay.
The financial aid dept at the time was very nice in the sense that they helped me get grants & scholarships to cover my tuition, so I came out debt free. In addition, their work study program helped me earn some income for 1 year of college. I doubt I am typical in that way, but considering my education was free for me, I probably have less complaints than some.
If you are not a natural artist, then you will probably not come out with a great portfolio; they don’t teach art/​design concept here, just practical, technical skill.

This place is the worst place to get an education. All they want is your money and once you hand it over they treat you like crap !!! The admission department is by far the worst you will ever encounter. The head of admission is Steve. He is in charge of a group of bone headed staff who have no clue of what they are doing. Please stay away from this school. You have been warned and if you want to lose your money just go to Las Vegas, you have a better chance of winning money there than an education at Platt College…

Platt College is notorious for its corrupt, money hungry, hostile and unethical operations. Today, I called (888) 807‑5288 (80-​Platt) to inquire about the school, a female operator demanded that I told her what program I wanted to know? I requested to speak with an admission director. She refused and deliberately transferred me to an admission clerk Melissa, who is a control freak! When I asked Melissa to honor my request to speak with an admission director, she harassed me and said, «We have 20 different directors.» She called every staff «a director,» a dean is a director. She was bullying me and then put me on hold for a long time.
When Steve Williams finally came to the phone, he was explosive, disrespectful and bullied me just like his subordinates LOUDLY yelling, «What do you want to know?» He harassed me with the same question over and over for 7 times to bully me and to disallow me speak. I asked him politely to transfer my call to the president and give me his/​her name. Being furious, verbally violent and acting out of control, Steve vigorously refused to give the president’s name, or to transfer my call. Steve slammed his phone to disconnect my call. This only a beginning. I cannot imagine the horrific experience during the course of attending school there! If that is education, this place is a hell! I would never give my money to Platt College. I agreed with the previous reviews from Platt’s students and alumni’s who had been ripped-​off, deceived and victimized by such a scammer. It demonstrates a place of hell! There are plenty of choices of schools. My family, friends and I would never associate with Platt College and strongly not recommend Platt College to anyone!

My husband decided late in life to go back to school. We were still engaged then and it seemed so great that he would be going into the field he loved and in his mind, providing a stable family income for us.
They tell you «lifetime job placement»
this has NEVER happened. He has been done with school now for over 5 years, he was top of his class. He has never had a graphic artist job. They once placed him in a weekend job, filming a convention or something. He placed several calls and the turn over there reflects how horrible the place is. They cannot keep their promises to their students.
At the time he was going there he even had his laptop stolen from out of the classroom and the school did nothing for us but told us to use our homeowners insurance. BOO! (I guess they added cameras after the fact)
I am constantly wondering why we are paying for student loans, we should just sue them.
Another reviewer pointed out that as a school, well basically they are a joke. You may learn what you need to perform in the field you want, but forget your educational basics like math. I am struggling to get my associates from a jr college, and my husband with his BA from platt could not do the math that I am doing. They pass you so they can collect their money.
My husband graduated from Platt at the age of 40, and will be paying for their pathetic education and useless piece of paper until he is 80!
He has been working a $ 8 hour job ever since he graduated and the only thing we have to show for attending PLATT is more bills.
I almost died when I saw the brand new campus they built in Riverside. We should own a piece of that because we sure are paying for it.
PLEASE, if you want to have self respect and a better possibility of gaining meaningful employment, just stick to a real college because this place is a complete joke.

If you are debating going to this school, I hope you find my review helpful. I attended this school in 2004 – 2006 for the Graphic Design/​Web Design program. I do not know what changes the school has made since then so my review might be a little dated.
First and foremost, Platt College is a business. They want to make money, period. This can be an advantage and also a disadvantage to students. I’ll explain further later. They are also an accredited college, however their accreditations do not parallel other universities. This is a technical school so if you decide you want to attend this school to get an associates or bachelors degree then later want to attend a regular college to further your education, you’ll find most classes wont transfer.
I said earlier that it can be beneficial to students because Platt College runs like a business. Yes, students can expect up-​to-​date equipment and the latest technology to serve the students needs. Platt College wants you to succeed when you graduate. The better success rate they have, the more students will likely sign up with them. This equates to more money.
On the flip side, this can be a major disadvantage to students because they have set their standards very low. They do not want you to fail a class or get behind. They want their college to run much like an assembly line. The more back ups they have, the less they can produce and the less money they can collect. They do not want students to get frustrated and quit. Therefore the standard is set very, very low. English and math classes are at high school levels. Furthermore, it’s impossible to fail their graphics/​web design classes. I went through several web design classes confused because I couldn’t quite grasp the programming concept, however I was given A’s the entire time. By the time I graduated, I had absolutely no concept how to create a website. It’s embarrassing to tell people I majored in web design but I don’t have a clue how websites are made.
I definitely have regrets going to this school but I also have to admit that I don’t think the school is horrible. Below you will find a list of Pros and Cons:

1. Fast education in a tech career
2. They handle all your financial aid paperwork. No need to re-​apply every semester.
3. Teachers and staff are friendly
4. Always up-​to-​date with industry standard
5. Graduates can re-​take courses for free at anytime (I’ll give them an extra star if this is in fact true.)
It’s actually not a bad school. I am disappointed with my experience primarily with the upper division/​Web design program. The program was still very new and was severely lacking. I have had a few freelance jobs but never really had the chance to work in the industry because I had children soon after I graduated. However, with the training they provided in graphic design (NOT web design) I feel fairly confident that I could land at the very least an entry level graphic design position.
I hope this review helps anyone debating to attend this school.
