This place is great, very friendly and takes exceptional care for the dogs. Clean facility and their classes are a great price for 10 weeks. I would definitely recommend cadence kennels to anyone

This is THE BEST method of dog training. Pat teaches the Koehler Method, the same method used for police and guide dogs.
You definitely get out what you put in. Spend the time and you will have a well mannered dog that will mind regardless of distractions (dogs, food, squirrel!).
My husband’s dog will do a tight sit-​stay at dog park with all of her doggie friends climbing on and teasing her. She will not move until her human, from 30 feet or more away, gives her the «okay» release!
Far from fear based, dogs learn appropriate boundaries in a method similar to those used by their mothers and pack-​mates. All of our dogs love to demonstrate the skills they learned at Cadence and many people comment on the smiles our dogs seem to have, as they are proud to be working as part of a well honed team!
This method works well for any dog, no matter how big or small, shy or alpha. Just put in the effort, follow Pat’s homework instructions and be in awe of the results – EVERY TIME!

Cheap place to board over night. Can’t complain for the price. Though when I got there and saw where the dogs were kept it kind of made me sad to leave my pup. Reminds me of the pound. No grass for the dogs to enjoy. Kennels are all outdoors. But you get what you pay for. Left my pup for two night, he was happy when we picked him up. I would only use again for only 1 – 2 night stays but no more due to lack of socialization with humans and other dogs. Please upgrade your facility… raise prices slightly, you will gain more clients

I have to say that 10 classes for only $ 100 is very exceptional, however I felt uncomfortable because the trainer (Pat) told me that I needed to keep correcting my dog. There is daily homework, so you do have to be willing to put in a good 45 – 60 minutes everyday of training. The training style is punishment based, which can indeed get excellent results but I didn’t want a relationship with my dog based on fear. There is simply no joy in this type of training and it doesn’t have to be that way. I really advise people to try and find a qualified reinforcement based trainer. Remember, just because someone uses praise or gives an occasional treat doesn’t mean that they are a R+ trainer.

What kind of «dog friendly» kennel are we running here if you’re discriminating against a certain breed? Obviously… they arn’t dog lovers.

My wife and I took our two German Shepherd puppies to Pat about a year ago. Our results: Two 90 pound dogs who still sit, stay, come, and lay down on command, even when they are surrounded by distractions. In fact, my wife regularly takes both dogs out on walks alone with no problems, and without them pulling (she weighs about 90 pounds herself).
If you have a problem with giving strong choke chain corrections, then I suggest you just skip the Koehler method and go to Petsmart. But if you truly want a dog who will display self-​control and obey your commands when it matters, then go to Pat.
The beauty of his training is that it is built around distractions. So you train your dogs so that they will STAY when you are in the front yard and a cat goes running across the street. This is the real deal, and I havent seen a dog trained by positive reinforcement that will actually show that kind of self discipline. One of Pat’s major themes is «putting responsibility on the dog», ie. making the dog think and make the correct choice in a given situation.

You don’t board pit bulls? Really? Anyone who discriminates against a whole breed obviously knows nothing about dogs.

Do you want to have a well trained dog that will stop when you say, drop to the ground when you say, stay where you tell them to with only one command? I did. I started the Petsmart class and refused to go back after the first class. Petsmart’s training might work for some people, but it is food (as a reward) based. As another reviewer said, «What happens when you run out of milk bones?»
I was raised around horses, goats, dogs and many other types of animals. I have watched dogs get kicked in the face by horses because they didn’t respond to their owners commands. If not more, It was as much the owners fault as the dogs for the pain. The method that some people call cruel is straight forward. The dog recieves praise verbally and physical for following commands. The owner works with their dog either for 40min sessions each day or two 20min sessions each day. The first 3−4days are used for teaching the dog what it is that you expect from them. By the 5−7^th day the dog has easily done the act that is required from them over a 100 times. The dog knows what is expected from them! If the dog fails to execute on those final days the choke chain is used for quick and decisive correction. If your dog doesn’t know what is expected from them, was it because you didn’t spend the time to help them learn it, if that’s the case Pat (the trainer) will tell you that it is wrong to bring discomfort to the dog because you didn’t work with them. I agree, it is the owners fault, not the dogs and the dog shouldn’t be disciplined because of an owner who wasn’t able to make time for the training.
My class started with 30 people and it ended with the same amount. A few of the people in the class were guide dog trainers. I’ve never met an ill behaved guide dog… I’ve also never seen a guide dog in training in a Petsmart class. I don’t think it is coincidence.
These methods were the same ones that were used to train animals in older Disney films (think Old Yellar). My 7 month old Lab will sit and stay and let a stranger pet her while I am 35ft away and will heel off leash. Great class, great trainer, without a doubt it was worth the money and time. I have a well behaved puppy that is a joy to have around other dogs, people, kids, etc. The method works and eliminates the frustration of trying to train your dog. Knowing what to do with your dog requires more than watching a few episodes of the Dog Whisperer and reading a few books.

The training has helped a lot with our puppy. You really need to dedicate the time they tell you to or they will not move forward with the other steps in the program. They are very helpful when you have additional questions and the technique works.

Best training I have done in 20+ years for many many dogs!!!

Sometimes people forget we are dealing with animals… no matter how much we love them or how much a big part of our family they are… they are animals after all is said & done. That being said… we need to train them & train them properly especially if it’s a strong dog… like an 86lbs black & tan Shepard. Some people prefer the loving, give your pet a reward for each good action type training… well what’s gonna happen when you run out of milk bones? Here at Cadence Kennels the Koeler (I might not have properly spelled it) method. Some might not agree… but for Thunder it’s what worked. No wimpy PETSMART training for this guy. Some people might not have time for the recommended 2 20 minutes a day reinforcement but how else is the dog supposed to practice what he’s learned?

experience: 7 weeks into the course, half the class has stopped coming. As for myself, I’m stoping the Koeler Method and I’m going to try my hand at Pet’s mart who use positive reinforcement training.

After searching for the right dog trainer for weeks, I met a couple that brought their amazing dogs to the dog park. They told me that their 10 months German Shepherd mix had finished a 10 week course at Cadence Kennel in Ontario and the very proud owners loved showing them off. The puppy did all the commands off leash at the dog park where there was at least 25 other dogs and people around. I knew I wasn’t going to get that kinda result from going to Petsmart or Petco, but I also didn’t want to pay $$$ for a dog trainer. The couple told me that Pat (trainer) hasn’t raised his price for over 20 years, wasn’t in it for the money and that the ⁹⁄₁₀ week obedience class was actually cheaper than the $ 109 that Petsmart was charging.
So, I called immediately and asked when their next course started. I found out it was a few weeks away and because we wanted to start as soon as possible we signed our dogs up for a private lesson (which was cheap!) Pat spent almost 2 hours with us and we learned so much! Even after the first lesson, I can tell that my 2 dogs are really paying attention and actually thinking and learning.
I definitely recommend Pat/​Cadence Kennel to everyone! I can’t wait until the next class!
