There was a large hair in my food, but I was mentally prepared for it as another Unilocal reviewer also mentioned hair in the food. That said, if I was driving through and needed breakfast, I would consider eating there again. My girlfriend says she would not eat there again. I think if they fix the hair problem though they are an otherwise solid roadside diner.

Been going to Exmore Diner but last time it was not good so decided to try Sage Diner after a long absence. It is so mediocre. Cafeteria food with wait service. Waitress started off very friendly but became easily distracted. Almost done with breakfast before we could grab someone for coffee refill. This route is one we drive from Florida to Massachusetts and reverse a few times a year. Will keep looking in area

If your driving on Rt 13 on Virginia and your looking for a place to eat, do yourself a favor and just keep driving. Awful lunch. Gyro, Chicken sandwich, and prime rib sandwich were all bad. Understand, my expectations when stopping in at a diner aren’t high so I want expecting farm to table concept and a celebrity chef, but this was bad. What I was expecting was gastrointestinal illness. Though to Sage diners credit nobody got sick. With such a large menu and little business there is no way the food was fresh. I was hoping for frozen. There is not much in the area, but just keep driving.

We eat here on our way back and forth from NY and Va every trip. It’s usually later in the night. And the service is still spot on. We’ve usually raved about their food, but our last trip wasn’t the best. We had a large group, and it was close to closing. Everything was either burnt, over cooked, or covered in old grease. We haven’t given up, and definitely will be returning in hopes that that was a one time mess up. Other than that one issue, we have nothing but nice things to say across the board!

We went here during the summer. I was the only person who ordered something that they ended up liking(the eggplant parmesan). The serving size was so huge that I actually had food for 2 days after the meal, so that was nice. Someone I was with ordered the chicken and dumplings. It looked gross(dumplings looked like soggy cotton balls or something) and she ended up getting sick from it. The décor is kind-of weird/outdated, and the waiter was kind-of aloof.

Get the sweet potato waffles! Friendly, tasty, and quick. A great road-side treat. Just when you think you’re in the middle of nowhere is this welcoming dining oasis.

Stopped at the diner on our road trip home to Florida. The crowded parking lot was our clue to stop for good food on this Sunday morning. We were seated immediately, hostess staff was friendly and polite. The menu is huge with the diner fare choices. We both did a breakfast special. Food arrived quickly and hot. I wish I had 3 more people with me to eat all the food we received. The platter was heaping with fried potatoes and eggs. My spouse got a huge portion of bacon and I got scrapple(cooked exactly as I asked for it). The waitress was polite and kept the coffe cups filled.(Important factor for my spouse). The diner was busy but there was not a line as seating was ample. Recommend this diner for GREAT food, portions, and service.

Ordered poached eggs on English muffin that should’ve been toasted, but weren’t. The home fries were lukewarm, my feet stuck to the floor and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was poor. Also there was a used Band-Aid on the menu that was on our table.

It’s all about expectations and options. We went with safe: salad and well done hamburger. The food was okay, the salad fresh, the meat all meat even if not from the low cal variety, the serving sizes consistent with the prices. The waitress was cheerful and checked back frequently. The retro ambiance and clean space and bathrooms were welcome.

What a dump. When it was built in the 70’s, that’s how it stayed and nothing has been done to it since. It smells like mildew and the bathrooms are disgusting and smell like urine. Food is ok. Service is good.

Standard American fare. The menu is huge. Breakfast served all day. Plenty of seating and great atmosphere. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

Crab soup was good! Besides that it was pretty bad. Everything is definitely frozen not fresh and the coffee was old. We hardly ate a thing.

Decent diner with a pretty big menu. I had eggs, scrapple and home fries and my wife had chocolate chip pancakes. Everything was fine but pretty unremarkable. Nothing blew us away. It wasn’t too busy and I was surprised by how long it took us to get our food.

It’s a diner, with damn good diner food. The place was quiet when my wife and I were there, but the service was super-friendly and the food was very good and quite reasonably priced. Crystal was awesome!

Huge menu, your typical diner = everything from all meals available kind of thing. Very friendly staff and really clean from the booths and tables to the restrooms — spot on. We just stopped in for a milkshake for the road — passing through on road trip. Excellent milkshakes by the way we had the turbo shakes = extra thick. We had the big three a.k.a = vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

Family friendly diner with delicious, home made food. The broiled flounder with crab stuffing is light flaky, and worth many times the super value price listed. It is part of the Two For $ dinnerl

Like most people we stopped mid roadtrip on our way to somewhere else and had no idea about the excellent reviews. Seating even at 6pm on a Saturday was a breeze as shockingly the diner was barely half full. The children both opted for the spaghetti & meatballs and the quantity was large. The meal also came with dessert of which the rice pudding and strawberry Jello were sampled to rave reviews. The lovely wife went for some kind of stuffed fish(flounder maybe?) and you guessed it, it was superb. My chicken dish was also moist, tender and full of flavor. Amidst all of my gushing I neglected to mention the best part of the entire process. No, it wasn’t the service(which was perfectly fine) it was the soup!!! The lovely wife got the French Onion and I devoured the crab chowder both of which were food porn worthy. A little dive like this really shouldn’t even be noteworthy and certainly shouldn’t be worthy of a five star review except that damn, the food really is that good all the way down to their pink tractor facing Rt. 13.

About 3.5 hours into a 5 hour road trip, my boyfriend and I were getting hungry. We saw a sign for Sage Diner and had our hearts set on some coffee and a big breakfast. We were greeted and seated upon entering. There were groups of older people, which I saw as a good sign. Locals eating breakfast, I assumed. Our server was the sweetest lady. The coffee was delicious and the breakfast hit the spot. A lot of food at a good price. Love Sage Diner! Give it a try if you are passing by or in the area.

This review is a bit out of order, time wise. We stopped here on our way from Ocean City Md. I have a number of reviews to write from Ocean City. But, I loved this Diner. What I loved was the fried Flounder w/cheese«sammage». WOW! How good was it? I rate it the best I’ve ever had! Yep! From Fla. And up the coast, this was the best. Kat, my wife, had an excellent crab cake sandwich. I saw a chocolate cake and bought a piece to go! It didn’t make it make to Richmond. It was eaten on I-64 W… lol. The 5 stars also always has to do w/service and we had a young lady by the name of Jessica, she was terrific!
