This was our April Taco Trek stop and I was happy with my selection for the month. Simple tacqueria style menu(tacos, tortas, burritos with choice of meat) but the food was very well done. The waitress recommended the al pastor but I have to say, that was the weakest of my three tacos. BUT, only because the barbacoa was so well done(and much needed since I have been wanting some) and the lengua was perhaps the best lengua taco I have had in town. A little off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip!

Located right next to Donahue’s bar, Taqueria La Fogata is a no frills taco shop. There’re a few decorations on the walls and soccer on the TV. The menu is simple, consisting of mostly tacos, burritos and tortas. I ordered up three tacos, two al pastor and one tongue. Double corn shells. Meat, cilantro, onion, and salsa — simple and delicious. The tongue taco was one of the better I’ve had of that variety. My bill came to just under $ 8. That’s about $ 2.50 per taco, which is pricier than similar taquerias serving up street-style tacos.

We dined at La Fogata for lunch on a Saturday for a Taco Trek monthly UYE. I arrived late, so I didn’t get a feel for the greeting and if there were menus or not. The server came by fairly quickly as I joined the group and got my order and a brought me a water. I ordered 2 tacos from the list on the wall by the register-this is the only«menu» I saw while here. There were about 5 meat choices but they were out of 2. I honestly didn’t pay too much attention to if there are other dishes offered here since we were there to try the tacos– but my guess is it is limited. The tacos were fine, no complaints, but they did not wow me as some other hole in the wall restaurants have in South Omaha. Typical meat, and cilantro/onion combo as a garnish. Complimentary chips and salsa, but I did not try any. The meats I picked were tongue and cheek, and I have had better elsewhere. Overall-somewhere to try, wouldn’t mind eating there again, but not at the top of my list.

Found this delicious place in at Taste of Omaha. They had the best pork tacos I’ve had in a very long time! Can’t wait to try some more of the menu!
