Description

Specialties

Jitterbugs’ Night Out is a weekly swing dance event that draws around 100 dancers and dance-curious each week. The event begins with a beginning lesson. Admission is $ 5, $ 10 on live music nights.

We offer a safe place for creativity, and afford all attendees, regardless of experience level, the opportunity to connect with others in real human interactions, to let his/her guard down and unwind at the end of the week, and to experience the joy inherent in the music and movement of the dance.

This is an all-ages event, smoke-free and drug-free. For patrons 21+, there is a bar downstairs.

History

Established in 2000.

Jitterbugs’ Night Out began when a few kids who loved swing dancing were frustrated by the lack of places to dance in Omaha. They were too young to get into the bars, and the ballroom studios, which were great for dance classes, weren’t the ideal environment to just dance socially.

What began as a monthly swing dance at a South Omaha Masonic lodge, quickly became twice a month, and then a year later moved to every week. In the fall of 2003, the event outgrew this location and moved to its current home at the Eagles Ballroom on 24th & Douglas.
