Cupcake Island

Beautiful cupcakes and delicious too! There were so many flavors and it was so hard to choose! I had the pink champagne and it was good.

I think I have finally found the best cupcake in Omaha, at least for my tastes. Their chocolate cupcakes are scrumptious with just the right amount of frosting. They also make my son’s birthday cake and they got it just right. I couldn’t have been happier with it.

My fiancé and I visited Cupcake Island for a cake tasting and met with Ed. We arrived between 5 and 10 minutes early and Ed was already prepared with everything completely set up!
The tasting cost $ 10 and we had the opportunity to taste Snickerdoodle, Pink Champagne, and then a traditional white and chocolate (plus you get to take plenty home!). All of the flavors were very good — we enjoyed every one of them (Pink Champagne was my fav.). Ed had a bunch of books to help us narrow down what we like and didn’t like.
Overall, once we got our preliminary quote after our meeting, the prices were very reasonable. If anyone is looking for a cake/​cupcake place — I would highly suggest Cupcake Island.

i discovered the reason why Cupcake Island was voted best in Omaha when i stopped in this week. they are amazing. i bought 4 cupcakes 3 days ago. (i have fantastic willpower) i have one left now so i believe after the three being so delicious (marble, turtle, and almond) the last salted caramel HAD to be too so it was time to Unilocal.i love that they are just down the block. its on 119^th and Pacific in the shopping mall behind Big Fred’s Pizza Garden. just turn in right there and follow the street back. its in the same store/​restaurant area as Brother Sebastians on the right. its an adorable place and the cheery yellow sign made me fall in love with it before i stepped in and saw those cupcakes! the staff was so nice, and i LOVE that each cupcake was decorated for Easter. i love that 4 cost me two dollars less then normally 4 cupcakes do anywhere else but were so delicious i forget the other places now. i love that cupcake places exist to give people like me selection because i can bake yes, but i get tired of the same thing. i love that a mother had her three boys picking out cupcakes so they can have the same happy bakery memories that i do of being a kid in Omaha.
try them very soon. they have mini cupcakes too. i «found» them back when i went to Brother Sebastians for dinner right after Valentines day (they are closed on Sundays) but i feel like i missed out not stopping in sooner and leaving them idling on my list. i also like that the almond was really almondy and the turtle had delicious toasted pecans with a caramel drizzle and the marble was a true delicious marble, and all had lovely frosting and tender flavorful cake. i want to try them all now. don’t you?

I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing Ed and his staff are. They really listen to exactly what you want, and if they can’t do something utterly specific, they will call you and ask you what you’d like to do or what they recommend. They are always so delightful when you walk in (not to mention the amazing smells) and you will be greeted at least twice. I’ve ordered a multitude of cakes and cupcakes from them, and they’re always done perfectly. I’ve never had any problems with service, product, or production. They have great flavors and great seasonal flavors as well. I wanted to do my wedding cake with them and wanted fondant, but they unfortunately do not do fondant (which is perfectly understandable). Thank you Ed and staff for always putting your heart into your work! Forget to mention, the prices are amazing! I order the 8in round double layer cake custom for every birthday, and it only costs me $ 28! Their cupcakes are priced efficiently, and they don’t over charge you like most competitors.

This place is amazing. The folks that run CupCake Island do it right. Not only is the food tasty and will melt in your mouth; they have always been so supportive of the charity events in the city. For a small business to take on those events and help sponsor them is just a good sign of good work!

I just happened by this cupcake shop. I am glad I did The cupcakes are Delicious!
I tried 5 types and they are all great. My favorite was the strawberry fields. It had real whip cream topping, real strawberries in the middle. I had gone to Cupcake Omaha and there’s was just a jelly filling and a sugar strawberry on top. It was awful and much more expensive than Cupcake Island. The frosting here is real butter cream, smooth and delicious. I will definitely be back again.

I have picked up cupcakes from Cupcake Island for quite a few occasions and I have always been impressed! I absolutely love the Pink Champagne because it is a classic and so light for a cupcake. I have tried almost all of their flavors and I haven’t found one that I don’t like! They also do an amazing job with presentation which is important when I take them to parties or work functions. Overall they hold their own with the other big cupcake shops in the area and I will definitely continue to return!

Cupcake Island was the VERY first exclusive cupcake shop in Omaha, and though it took me awhile to try it, I’ve loved it ever since my first bite. I find Jones Brothers cakes to be overly hyped just because its in Aksarben Village — they are not BAD cupcakes at all, but I’ve never had anything I can’t live without. Gigi’s cakes are topped with a gluttony of shaving cream flavored frosting, Cuppycakes are tasty but never taste homemade. Bliss’ are pretty darn good, and while I like the other handful of cupcake shops around, I am still partial to Cupcake Islands flavors and freshness and price. They are cheaper then most — I don’t know why people say they are expensive! Give them a try again if its been awhile. You always end up going back home!

I love CI! Every experience is delicious. We recently used them to make a cake for a pre-​wedding celebration and the cake was breathtaking. Aside from being the cutest thing ever, it tasted like heaven! Thank you to Ed & his team!

I used to think this place was awesome. I guess that was because it was the first and only cupcake shop in town, or at least the only one I knew about.
Upon going back, years later, I found their cupcakes to be very dense and dry. The selection wasn’t great and the service was not overly friendly.
Now that I have other choices, I have to say I probably won’t be going to Cupcake Island much. :(

Love their cupcakes. For us, Cupcake Island is a great place to but a treat for special occasions. The cake is great. The frosting is great. The selection is great. The cost is pricey.

My family and I just moved here from VA. I love cupcakes! I’ve baked more than my fair share, and tried many shops in many places. So, it stood to reason, that even before I moved here, I researched bakeries and cupcake shops. I was excited to try them out, and of course, started with «Best in Omaha.» Sadly, this seems to have been a mistake.
I do want to say that I like the shop, and it was a good experience, customer-​wise. The employees were wonderful. They were all smiles, and very helpful. The shop is kind of small, with only a few tables. However, I like the uniqueness of the seating.
Upon first walking in, I was very excited! There were lots of cupcakes, and a large variety of flavors. I’ve seen people complain about the prices, but honestly, people, $ 2.50-$ 3.00 is VERY reasonable for a cupcake! (Try going to New York, LA, or D.C.!) Their minis are $ 1.50-$ 1.75, and it seemed like most cupcakes had a mini version. I had a hard time choosing, as there seemed to be so many wonderful choices! The decorations are simple, but lovely. The colors are very good, as well. The cupcakes were handed to us on paper plates, with plastic forks. It’s nice to receive them on a plate, and not just a napkin. Unfortunately, this is where the lovely stops.
My husband and I got one regular cupcake each to eat-​in, and 2 minis each, to take home. He chose Maraschino Cherry, and I chose Boston Crème. Upon taking the first bite, we each realized our cupcakes were ice-​cold! It was kind of a shock. Definitely not what we expected. As a baker, myself, I do understand that some cupcakes cannot stay at room temperature. However, handing them out at refrigerator temperature is not enjoyable. The flavors were ok. They did have a good amount of flavor. Unfortunately, it tasted very much like a regular bakery cupcake, with butter cream made from shortening. Having chosen the Boston Crème, I guess I expected to have the cupcake covered in ganache. That is certainly what it looked like. I’m pretty sure it was closer to shortening, powdered sugar, cocoa and milk. It was thin, and did not have a very good chocolate flavor. I was very disappointed! The frosting on the Maraschino cupcake was grainy, and, again, tasted like basic Crisco Frosting. The cupcake had a nice texture, but was a bit dry.
We took home a regular Chocolate Truffle for our teen son, and four minis: Tuxedo, Chocolate Mint, Tiramisu, and «Not Your Mother’s Brownie.» My son loved the Chocolate Truffle, saying, «It tastes just like a bakery cupcake!!» This says a lot, because my son loves basic grocery store cupcakes. No matter how many gourmet cupcakes I’ve made, or brought him, my son always loves those the best. (No, it’s not my baking… it’s my son’s preference. :)) I’m glad my son loved them, because my husband and I were very disappointed. We have each taken a bite, and left them. The fact that they are still on the counter untouched, this afternoon, speaks volumes. The brownie tasted good, at first, but as I continued to chew, all I could taste was Crisco! There was so much mint in the frosting on the Chocolate Mint cupcake, it was unpalatable! The Tiramisu didn’t taste anything like it, and the frosting was a very odd, sticky, gooey consistency. Ugh!
I really want to like Cupcake Island. The owner was there, and was so nice. He seemed to really have a good relationship with his employees and customers. The shop seems so great. It looked so beautiful. Nevertheless, it was quite deceiving, especially for receiving the «Omaha’s Best Desserts!» Wow. I don’t think I will ever go back, and I do believe we gave them more than a fair shot.

An Amazing shop with the BEST cupcakes and cakes in town! In addition to the everyday favorites, they also have specific cupcakes on specific days. So if you have a hankering for one of their Lemon drop cupcakes, you HAVE to go on Wednesdays. The prices are reasonable compared to other newer cupcake places. Check them out. They will not disappoint you!

I love cake! By far my favorite dessert! I saw a review on Unilocal for this place and thought I would give it a try. What I was looking for was more of a sit down dessert place where I could hop on a Wi-​Fi and do some work. Not that kind of place … that was my bad. Instead it’s a bakery feel with just a few small tables set out in front of the check out. So I got a cupcake to go…
I chose the white cake with chocolate frosting. It’s always my go to & since this was my first visit, this would tell me if I’d come back. The frosting was delicious! Just the right amount and richness. The cupcake was good too, but like others have said, a little dry… not horribly, but noticeable… the frosting made up for it in my eyes (or taste buds).
I’ll go back to try other flavors and I’ll recommend to friends.

At first, I thought cupcake island was great. I placed an order over the phone to be delivered to my boyfriend’s hotel and they were very accommodating and helpful. The delivery charge is $ 15 and it was $ 15 for 6 cupcakes, not too bad in my opinion. However, he sent me a picture of the cupcakes and the frosting was on the box and a few were tipped over — clearly the delivery person didn’t handle them cautiously. I think it’s pretty key that when you deliver a cake or cupcakes, you make sure it arrives with quality.

Cupcake Island is like the brightest star of cupcakes here. They really shine in what they do and what they offer. Like Kaai L., I’ve had a pretty diverse experience with cupcakes in my young life so far and I have to say these cupcakes score high in taste, freshness, creativity, and presentation.
What I love about this little shop is the variety of flavors they offer. They have chocolate raspberry (my ultimate favorite), chocolate worms, (for the kiddies), carrot, tuxedo, pink champagne, and red velvet. They have a bunch more but I can’t remember their names and they feature a few new flavors a month!
Another great tidbit about Cupcake Island is that they offer mini cupcakes in the same flavors I mentioned above. I think that’s great for those of us women who feel like a cupcake but just wanna have a taste, or for your kiddies cuz you wanna limit their sugar intake. It’s a wonderful option!!!
Lastly, they also sell plastic single cupcake holders for those times you wanna buy yourself a cupcake and don’t wanna risk the frosting sticking to the paper bag or falling all over the box.
Cupcake Island, you’re the place we’re gonna go to get our cupcake fix =o)

Called from CA and ordered cupcakes for a suprise 80^th birthday party for my grandmother being hosted in Omaha. We ordered 4 dozen and at $ 96.00 with tax, I was expecting MORE than Pillsbury boxed cupcakes.
The cupcake part was NOT FRESH at all, and it was obvious that they sat in a cooler for at least a day. There were 5 different types and not one of them tasted like they were made from scratch. My recommendation is SAVE your $$ and order the EXTRA LARGE cupcakes from CostCo at $ 16.99 a dozen.
