For the most part, AAA does what it says. I have used it for towing, flat tires and lock outs and was very satisfied.
My most recent experience was horrible. A tire fell off my wife’s car and I called AAA for her (she was very shaken up by it) and explained that the car needed to be towed to our mechanic. Moody’s Towing arrived, put the tire back on and said it was OK to drive. It was NOT. I was furious and called AAA back. Sam the supervisor and I argued because he wanted to send the same incompetent towing service back.
My mechanic tells me that because AAA awards contracts on price you get the bottom of the barrel when it comes to service providers.
Not only did this most recent incident suck but it could have gotten someone killed.

Be very careful when you buy a battery from a tow truck or battery truck under AAA. Their warranty is one of the most restrictive in the industry. They want to protect their ability to sell you batteries forever. So, if the battery ever fails and one of their guys isn’t called to «test» it (i.e. make a pitch to sell you a new one. the warranty is voided. All other batteries honor the warranty regardless.
This happened to me. The battery was less than a year old when it failed. I thought is was a short circuit. My service station discovered it was the battery. As with their standard practice, they replaced it. Membership gave me a form to send in for reimbursement. The national office refused to honor it because the battery had not been tested in the car to prove it was defective. I am out $ 100. They are out of a thirty-​year membership. And I will take a bus before I ever buy a battery from them again.
