Super Smash Video Games

Was delighted at the selection of games!
Bill and Ty assisted me in finding Fuzion Frenzy for XBox. I’ve been looking everywhere for this game and they had it in the back! Ty took the time to clean the disk for me and remove all the scratches. Bill made sure that this XBox game would be compatible with my system (XBox 360).
Overall, super impressed! They have an awesome selection for all systems. I recommend checking this store out for all of your gaming throwback needs!

This place HATES customers.
Within two seconds of walking in, the guy behind the counter is hassling my girlfriend to leave her bag with him. She doesn’t feel comfortable leaving her phone and wallet with someone she doesn’t know, so she declines.
I notice some PS3 games within full view of the counter, so I suggest we keep her bag, and only look at those — no walking around. Counter guy reluctantly agrees.
Bad first impression. No other game shop in Seattle treats you like a criminal for owning a bag. Then again no other game shop is dumb enough to keep THE GAME DISCS IN THE CASES ON THE SHELF. (Why?)
So I have a few games I’m looking for, and see one of them. I buy Syndicate on PS3 for 8 bucks, then leave.
Turns out Syndicate is a bland reboot of an old franchise. I played it for an hour. Didn’t like it. But no problem, I still have my reciept, and can exchange it for something else, right?
Wrong.
Back in the game shop two days later, the guy tells me there’s absolutely no exchanges or returns. Then he goes into a long winded rant about how he’s not GameStop, and he basically accuses me of using his store as a rental service.
It felt like a joke, but the contempt in this man’s eyes and voice was very real. He had an abysmal attitude.
I didn’t argue with him. I just told him, «I won’t be coming back in then.»
The funny thing is, he lost money. I bought Syndicate for 8 bucks, and was fully prepared to exchange it for the more expensive Metal Gear Solid V — happily paying the difference.
I might have also been tempted to pickup Fallout 4 in the future, as they’re the closest game store to me. But there’s no way I’ll be going back.
So don’t shop here.
They’ll show you contempt, treat you like a criminal, and each purchase you make is a risk.
There are other game stores in Seattle that don’t have this terrible attitude.

Good selection, but you can find better prices on eBay. I tried to return a controller that was broken out of their packaging, but they do not accept any returns or exchanges after 7 days.

AMAZING PLACE. Great selection, really rare finds and solid prices on more common things. This place is run with care and has an obvious love for the classics, and is curated with care for both buying and selling. I was happy to not only sell a lot of my collection here not just because of honest prices, but knowing they’re at a place where both the sellers and potential buyers will appreciate them. And seriously, I will be back to buy ALL THE THINGS. :) Go ye, and peruse, and be amazed.

First off always buy local, never go to Amazon or some huge big box store unless you absolutely have too! That being said I have never had to return a game to Smash Games before, went in for the first time his past weekend. The place had a wild musty smell or body order or something but selection was amazing. Bunch of new stock for current titles and tons of retro games as well! The display cases to look through were a bit annoying because prices were not listed or easy to read. I asked the guy who was working for help and he made sure I was able to access the cases. Great customer service and selection I will be coming back again!

What a great place to get video games to bring back your childhood. Found games that GameStop said they couldn’t get me. Great service! The employee buffed all four of the games we bought to make sure they work like new for free! Loved my experience here.

The unique aspect of this store is that it specializes in reselling used games from older consoles. That said, eBay offers the same. If you’re looking for a new title, new in box, especially as a gift for someone, skip this store. Game Stop offers lower prices on brand new games than Super Smash Games does used (20% lower direct comparison). Beyond that, Game Stop’s return policy on used games is full in-​store credit within 7 days of return. Super Smash Games does not allow full in-​store credit on used games — they will however buy back the game at your loss.
Their dogmatic return policy, which is not in keeping with their competitors, nor the spirit of our neighborhood, high prices and musty, body-​odor wafting store are a reflection of their priorities. Bummer to see a neighborhood shop choose this path.

I had a great experience at Super Smash Games in Ballard.
The store is small however they still have a great variety of games and systems. They have another location in Tacoma that they say is much larger but I haven’t been there.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, I can fairly say that I don’t know a great deal about video games so thankfully if I have questions they’ll answer them for me.

Super friendly staff! Never felt like I was being upsold and they legitimately tried to help me with a problem I was having with my 360. Highly recommended!

I seriously love this store!
I stumbled upon it one day on my way to work. I don’t usually like to go into game stores and I often just order things online, but I thought I would take a look inside. I was really blown away by the selection of games and systems. I’m a huge fan of older gaming stuff like N64 and Playstations, so I was really happy to see that they had a bunch of reasonably priced games. I assumed going in that the prices would be very high since but I was wrong!
The staff are really nice too. I ended up buying an N64 and two games (Mario 64 and Pokemon Snap). I asked the guy working a lot of questions and he answered them patiently and gave me the info I wanted. After the purchase I went home to play my new games and noticed that the controller I was sold was really beat up and had tape on the cord. I plugged it in anyways and it didn’t work. I was freaking out because I assumed I wouldn’t be able to get a replacement, but I called anyways and was told to come back and trade it out for another controller! Luckily the store is pretty close to my house, so I didn’t mind making a trip back!
The games and systems are all really organized. The store has a huge selection crammed into a small space but it doesn’t feel cluttered at all. I like how you can open the glass cases yourself so you don’t have to drag a worker over every time you want to look at a game. I will definitely be buying many more games here.

You want a CIB copy of Joy Mecha Fight for the Famicom? Yes, they have that. You want an amazing selection of GBA/​GBC/​GBA games? Yep, that too. How about Ys for the Turbo Grafx CD? Yep! And if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they will generally bring it up from their Tacoma location within a day or two.
This wonderfully tiny shop is run by three co-​owners, who all know their stuff. Yes, the prices can be a bit higher than others, but the service and stock easily makes up for it. Now if my wallet can just play along…

Walked into this place since I’ve passed it on my way home for 2 months now, and I was looking to buy some old N64 games as a gift.
I called ahead to make sure they had Mario Kart (they did– one copy! A hot commodity!).
The shop is small but very well organized and everything is well labeled with reasonable prices.
Yes, you will pay more for the popular items (e.g. N64 Mario Kart), but you can also pick up a multitude of games for under $ 5.
I am by no means a video game aficionado, so I was afraid I’d feel a little out of place in the shop («Is my rookie status showing too much?»), but the owner was very friendly and helpful.
I’m sure I will be back, as our apartment now has an N64, Wii, Xbox, and will soon have a PS4. :)

Thank goodness for Super Smash games! I’ve been going since the first day and I always love coming in. I found out about their Ballard location after I saw them at Sakura-​Con. It’s so refreshing to be able to go into a store that sells older generation games and not have to rifle through complete garbage. When I found my old NES I was really excited I could finally trade in some of my old games to get something new. When I didn’t know what to use my credit on, I got a really great reccomendation from Bill on picking up Tales of Xilia.
This place is actually run by people who play video games has a really nice selection. It’s not just second hand items they have, they also carry quite a few unopened and new titles. A lot of times they even have collector’s editions of older games in. My fiancée picked me up a special edition of Persona 3, it even had the soundtrack in it’s original packaging! A lot of them even have the original box and manuals with them, which is hard to find with used games. The older games especially are in really nice condition. My roommate and I have both purchased older consoles (original XBox, Dreamcast, and SNES) from them and they are in very nice condition. One of the controllers that came with my SNES was acting a bit fussy and Smash Games was happy to replace it with a working one for me.
I’ve never had any trouble with the pricing. The prices are in nice little non-​invasive stickers on the back. I don’t have to frustrate myself in peeling off some obnoxious marketing sticker.

I came across an ad for this store on Craigslist. It says they have a ton of great games, so I’m stoked. The ad says the preferred contact method is writing online, so that’s what I did — and asked for confirmation that a few games were in stock — and if they were then what the prices were.
They write me back and say, yeah we have most of those games but you should just come in. So so far, they’re not telling me what they do or don’t have, let alone what the prices are if they even have anything I want.
I write them back and let them know that fair-​is-​fair, but I’m out of town and this would be a destination trip for me, hence my trying to get a sense of whether or not the trip is worth my while before I make it. They write me back and say, well you should still just come in because we don’t ship games. (Now note that I never asked anyone to ship anything, so that’s sort of a weird thing to say.)
I’m a mid-30’s professional with a ridiculous amount of disposable income. Some of the games I’m asking about are easily $ 500 each or more. And they can’t be troubled to confirm that they even have them. They have an ad up, that says to email them with questions. Then you email them with questions, and they just write you back to tell you why they shouldn’t have to answer them. That takes more time and effort and thought than it would’ve to just answer the original cut-​and-​dry business related question. I have no idea if this is just one guy, if he’s the manager, if he’s the owner — I don’t know. But I do know that if you’re going to begin a flame war with someone who’s trying to give you piles of money, that is not a good business model. Maybe they treat you better in person, but I find that hard to imagine since they say to contact them with questions online and then when you do they just basically stomp their feet and yell at you and perpetuate the really negative stereotype of the holier-​than-​thou gamer d-​bag. If they’re great in-​person, then good for them — but they shouldn’t advertise online then to contact them online, right? I think that seems reasonable enough. And I’m Really giving them the benefit of the doubt here. I guess some people don’t believe in performing the most basic of work tasks, and in turn are oddly enough not interested in making any money.
