Since starting this exercise program at Motion in Balance I have noticeably better posture and far less neck/​back pain. I love the quiet studio and Rachel’s gentle coaching methods. It makes for a serene space to focus on all of those muscles you aren’t used to isolating/​working on. I’m hooked on gyrotonics.

Rachel is such a good listener. Gyrokinesis is quite gentle but you’ll be surprised what a difference it makes to your strength, endurance, and posture!

Rachel Friedman owns this studio which is right around the corner from the Water Street Café. She has some other classes, but I go there for her personal Gyrotonic training. Gyrotonic uses what looks like a wooden lat machine and what resembles a modified weight bench. The exercises are very precise, don’t involve jerking heavy weights around, and were originally designed to help dancers become more flexible. The exercises are perfect for people who sit all day — a great way to un-​kink the back. Also, it’s very good stress relief and good core strengthening. If you’re looking to try something different, give this a shot.
