I love little toys, I love old school toys, I love the atmosphere in the store! Prices can be a little high but the toys that you find here are much different than in a conventional toy store exclamation point I found just about everything in a miniature size… It was all I had to walk out of the store and not buy one of those little mini Kewpie dolls! Great customer service and a friendly smile… I may be back when I am in town again!

Simply put: best toy store ever. A wide range of toys and games, truly something for everyone. Every time we stop in it is usually to grab a few birthday presents and we always end up leaving with extra fun things for ourselves! Cute knick knacks, high quality gift items, classic toys, they have it all.
The best part is that the staff are all truly wonderful… so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about products. Sometimes it is hard to find quality service in retail, but not here. They even offer free gift wrapping. A life saver many times!
I recommend this shop to all my mom friends, and can’t wait for our next visit in.

I love this store! I always find something too cute to leave behind! Who even knew I NEEDED a pair of bunny and elephant puppets? Uh — for the children in my life — OF COURSE. I love the organic baby blankets and toys and the simple, quality playthings that invite imagination ! Not your everyday toy store– definitely a cut above!

For a rainy day in Olympia I decided to check out this toy store with my fourteen month old. I wish we had found it sooner!
As soon as we walked in the staff was friendly and got down on my little one’s level. He ran straight for the fun cars and bins of toys, and toddled around exploring to his heart’s content. We found some beautiful gifts for an upcoming baby shower. My son played with the train tables and wooden doll carriages, and they had fun children’s books and art supplies. We can’t wait to go back, and I’ve shared my exciting find with some other mommy friends!

I popped in here today and was completely wowed by all the cuteness! There are adorable baby items, cool toys for all ages, and some super awesome food storage items. I’m totally addicted to kitchen/​food gadgets so it was really hard to not leave with one of everything.
My daughter has been asking for a diary and I wanted to find the perfect one for her. I found one here that she absolutely loved. Yes, it cost a bit more than I normally would’ve spent, but knowing how fitting it was for her little personality made it worth it.
I also happened to find a really, really cute tin for the tooth fairy. She loved it!
The female sales associate working was very friendly. She greeted me when I came in and then rang up my items when the male associate was too busy wrapping a gift for another customer to even acknowledge my presence. He looked at me. Didn’t say a word. I mean, at least ask your coworker to help ya out, pal.
For as much as I loved every little thing in here, it is a bit pricey. It’s not the kind of place I can come to on a regular basis… For special gifts and occasions only.
I will check out the events they host in the store!

Very nice toy store. Plenty of Playmobil, Brio, books, art supplies, puzzles, games, figures, and more. Good stop for the kids or to get gifts for them.

I write this review with hesitation. I always want local businesses to thrive. I support local businesses whenever I can. When this toy store replaced Wind Up Here, we were a little concerned — as we loved Wind up Here and were frequent shoppers. The first time we went into Captain Little, we were taken aback by the noticeably HIGH prices.
We browsed and saw a few cute things but not worth what they are charging. Don’t get me wrong, I will pay a little extra for something unique, durable, made in the U. S, or a quality educational toy. BUT, a lot of the things they carry are available at chain toy stores and for a lot less. Their Calico Critters are marked up markedly higher than local chain stores. Again, I want to support local businesses but the cost of toys here are too much for this family to warrant going back.
Yes, they have some unique toys but I don’t know who can afford them, unless you are a parent who has only 3 – 4 toys in rotation.
I do wish the cute little shop the best of luck.

Since my last review, one of the owners reached out to me to ensure me that service will be better. He wasn’t kidding. I have been in multiple times since my last review and the staff has been great! A lot more interactions with the customers. One of the best toy stores around!

Having lived in toy store heavens like NYC and LA, who would have ever imagined that the most amazing toy store I’ve ever seen would be in Olympia, WA. Passed this place randomly and I’m obsessed. The owners have impeccable taste and it’s filled with incredibly beautiful and creatively inspiring toys and curios from around the world. I’m so so bummed I don’t live closer to this shop and that my girls weren’t with me when I found it. Start a web store please!

Fun toy store located in downtown Olympia! This is one of those toy stores where it is toys that are of an educational nature but there are just fun ones there too!
Not really stuff like action figures for us comic geeks here but there does seem to be plenty of comic shops in the area that fits those needs as well!
There were lots of great looking puzzles, games and such where if you want toys of the traditional nature this is a great place to come to!

Give yourself sometime to browse. High quality products and bring your kids they will adore the place. Thankful Wind up Here was replaced with such a timeless and fantastical store.

Captain Little is a large toy store located in the former space of Wind Up Here. The remodel opened up the area making it much larger than before. The store is full of toys, crafts, and a nice selection of books.
When you step inside the business you are greeted by a large robot with flashing eyes.
There is a large selection of pretend play toys, blocks, dress up items, and games. For parents who plan on making lunch for their children during the school year there is a whole wall dedicated to reusable lunch sacks, compartmentalized lunch boxes, thermoses, cups, and utensils.
My youngest child was enamored by a set of multi color wooden blocks that housed magnets. My oldest child loved the large selection of Squishable toys: spherical plush animals and spherical plush food.
All of the products I saw in the store are high quality and are sure to last a long time.

Love this place! Can be a little pricey, BUT its totally worth it because the quality of toys and uniqueness of them is awesome.

wow. just wow. This store is AMAZING!!! It is owned by the same people that own Compass Rose. You can find ANYTHING for ANYBODY at this store. I spent 30 minutes in here and only go through about a third of it. They have such fun things — everything from sushi shaped erasers, to fancy duplo sets, to handmade puppets, to wacky science sets, to really nice cards. Love love LOVE. Its also a great place to browse to get ideas for DIY crafty stuff.

The iconic toy store, Wind Up Here, closed its doors in March, 2014, after 20 years in business. Paul Shepherd, co-​owner of Compass Rose, the eclectic gift shop at 416 Capitol Way, re-​opened the toy store on the corner of 5^th and Washington on August 16, 2014, in conjunction with Olympia’s 85^th annual Pet Parade. Under new ownership, the store is now known as Captain Little, and brings back to downtown Olympia a service-​minded toy store for the discerning shopper. Welcome this business and pay them a visit. You will not be disappointed.
