St. Louis has a lot of great BBQ places and this can be one of them. Sometimes. The food is pretty good but the wait is terrible. Understaffed most of the time and not willing to make slight changes. I’m allergic to raw onions and they would not leave them off my sandwich for me. That is NOTOK! I will not be returning anytime soon.

I agree that someone from Corporate needs to visit. I love Dickey’s and moving to the area was very happy to see this location. But this franchise is the worst and should be avoided. I have continued to go back due to the location and eternal hope that it would someday live up to its history but the last visit was the final straw. They are ALWAYS out of something. Might me Okra, Might be Ribs, or like my last visit– Out of Brisket, Out of Ribs, Out of Corn Bread. Kitchen and staff were filthy. Food on the floor and counters. Got home after waiting 1 hour for carryout and food cold. I now drive to other locations. Save your time and money and avoid potential food poisoning. The owner needs to really get engaged or give up. This place is a disaster. You have a 50⁄50 chance of a normal Dickey’s experience or a miserable, nasty experience that will make you seek other BBQ.

Went on a Friday and was shocked to see only two people working the lunch shift. Had a 15 minute wait for food that is already precooked. Someone please tell the owner they need help. Food was good, but not great.

Ick — Someone from Texas HQ should really review their Franchise Agreement! Took my kids here last night around 5. When this shop first opened I was so happy having lived in Dallas, always thought of Dicky’s as a serviceable above average quality BBQ joint with friendly peeps and southern flair. Indeed when they opened this place had promise. Friendly owners, happy workers dishing out above average quality food. Boy how things have changed and not for the better. Arrive with 3 kids in tow to an empty restaurant, no one at the counter. Someone comes out of the kitchen and says«I’ll be back» and walks out to find I guess someone to help us. 3 or 4 mins later a gentleman comes in stands behind the register and proceeds to take our order with all the energy of a gas station lottery ticket sales guy. While we waited, we went to the«fixins» bar which had a tub of dried out onions, a few pickles and lemons. The warm sauces were ok. Food… meh… brisket was fatty. Free Ice Cream? Hmm Ice would be the operative word here… The add mix light flashing… the machine extruded a semi sweet milkish iceish mix that was even gross to a 12 year old. So Dicky’s I am out for now. either close or renew but until then you have lost me at this location. I will get my Dicky’s fix in the Dallas Airport from now on where HQ has better oversight on quality.

Order at the counter, take a number to an available table in the dining room or outside, and wait for your food. Decent barbecue sandwiches, lots of options for sides. They run lunch specials at a good value on Tuesdays. Sign up online and receive email coupons.

Whoa, this is as good as it DOESN“T get. Why? You got Pappy’s Smokehouse and Bogart’s Smokehouse here in St Louis who set the standards in BBQ(Pappy’s got the #1 rating in BBQ nationwide per Zagat) so this place has some tough competition. I had a coupon so that’s why I went here yesterday. We had ordered the Rib Plate along with 2 sides(caesar salad and potato salad). And a pulled pork sandwich. If you want to see a smoke ring on the ribs, forget it! There ain’t any. The ribs had a dry rub and then jammed into an oven for some oh so slow and oh so tasteless ribs. Even dumping on sauce made it marginally better. Go to Pappy’s and/or go to Bogarts smokehouse and see what real smoked ribs taste and look like. It’s called a pink smoke ring that permeates into the meat that enhances the flavor and not just pouring on BBQ sauce. The pulled pork, a bit better than if the pork was just boiled in water. No flavor on it’s own, absolutely no flavor. Seriously if people think this is good BBQ then I would never want to eat out with them. This is not good BBQ. The ceasar salad is great if you like watching it poured out of a bag. The potato salad was drowing in the creamy dressing and had so much dill I was eating a Dill salad dressed with potatoes. We ordered the cornbread with our meal and cornbread out of the REFRIGERATOR is an absolute no-no in the restaurant business. Ever hear of a warming oven? So if you want to spend your hard earned cash on some quality BBQ around the St Louis area go to a quality BBQ place and truely taste the difference. Pappy’s Smokehouse, Bogarts Smokehouse

When I arrived I wasn’t sure if they were open or not because it looked like the two employees inside were closing two hours early. It became evident that it wasn’t going to be the best experience because as I tried to place my order I was informed that they were out of brisket and ribs, unless I wanted some that were«burnt and dry as hell» according to the guy at the register. They seemed to be out of everything I wanted, which I half-expected as they were closing down the shop, but it seemed like the employees were under the impression that I should have known this. The service was awful and the attitudes of the employees made me want to watch the movie«Falling Down» so I could find someone to relate to. I will not return to this location.

I absolutely love Dickey’s since I first tried it in Dallas a few years ago, and I had high hopes when I found out it was opening some chains in St. Louis. While the sauce in the St. Louis locations is the same as in Dallas, and there is a free ice cream machine for dessert, this is where the similarities end. The brisket and ribs are dry and below average, the mac and cheese and cold and lumpy, and the cornbread leaves a lot to be desired. Because of this I would ordinarily leave a 3 or 2-star review, however, this Dickey’s locations drops down to a 1 based on unbelieveablely poor customer service. I had a hard time finding a table today in an empty restaurant(empty seems to be a theme here the last three times I’ve come in) because all of the tables still had trays, cups, etc. on them. The workers always seem to be worried and confused and the place seems to generally be in a flux. There are many businesses in this area and this place is routinely empty at prime lunch time. I’d be shocked if this location is open in 2012. I cannot speak for the other St. Louis Dickey’s in terms of their customer service, but I hope they are better.

I wondered why this place was empty when I walked in. I ordered the ribs and found out. To say the ribs were dry would be an insult to dry. My best guess is that they were cooked over the weekend and left out until they hit my plate on Wednesday night. Never again.

I usually don’t post reviews on restaurant chains, because most people already know what to find in a chain restaurant, as they are all standardized. But, I didn’t know this one before. I didn’t even know it is a chain, so probably other people are not familiar with Dickey’s either. The place IS a chain. And just like someone mentioned on a review, it’s a «fast-food-like-chain». On the way it looks, the way you order(order at the counter and the food is taken to you at your table) and the way it feels. BUT not on the way it tastes! Again, the food is very good! I had the ribs and brisket. The ribs are just the way I like: no barbecue sauce(or very little) on it; lean, tender in most parts, crispy on others. It really tastes good. The brisket was also very good. Tender and moist. Both had a very fresh look and taste. The sides are OK too. The best feature is: Kids eat free on Wednesdays and Sundays!

We have a tendency to frequent Dickey’s on Friday nights when we are running short on time to eat before we meet up with friends for a movie or other activity. Generally speaking, Dickey’s is a winner for good, fast, and affordable fork food. If you show up after 7:30 p.m., things start to go downhill as staff anticipates their own evening plans and begins breaking things down. One of the perks of Dickey’s is the free soft serve vanilla ice cream, but if you get there past the dinner rush, you often miss out – they empty and close down the ice cream machine before they close; not after. While notoriously inconsistent, their food is still good. I usually get the pulled pork sandwich, but got pork ribs on my recent visit. I was a little disappointed that my 1-meat platter only came with three pretty meager ribs, but with sides I had more than enough to get full and was therefore satisfied. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. I went for a little plastic cup filled half and half with Regular and Hot BBQ sauce to dip them in and while the sauce is a little thin for my liking, it was mighty tasty. I’m a variety kind of girl, so side dishes can often make or break a meal for me. The side selection at Dickey’s is pretty vast, and with all the menu options, is probably what keeps me coming back. I often get the mac n cheese, but it is hit or miss as to whether I like it here. It’s the homestyle kind, which I usually like, but I’d probably rate it a 2 out of 5; especially because my experience with it here has been SO inconsistent. If you like fried okra, this is the absolute best place to get it! It has always been good, and I would rate it a 5 out of 5. They also tend to give you a lot here; on my recent visit, I got a HUGE plate of it. If I don’t get the Jalapeño beans, I always regret it; another side that is consistently so, so, very good. A 5 out of 5. The baked potato casserole is stellar if it is fresh and made correctly. Sometimes it gets old, sometimes they neglect the toppings, you get the idea. Because of the inconsistency, I would rate this side a 3 out of 5. The fried onion tanglers are good, especially if you like onions but don’t like to bite into a huge chunk of onion as with onion rings. There is more breading than onion, but tasty nonetheless. I actually prefer more onion so don’t order this side, but I always snag a few tangles when someone else does! The cornbread is a little inconsistent in consistency, but is ALWAYS good. I always order a side of it. It is moist and tender, but on a recent visit was almost deliciously gooey – I love it! Now about the rest… One of the things I love about this place is all of the portion options. Dickey’s makes it easy to feed a group of your friends because they have meals structured to feed the most peckish to the healthiest of appetites. There is no smoking and the staff keeps the tables and floors pretty clean. They used to serve their sides in plastic bowls that they washed, but they have done away with and replaced them with paper cups. I think it was a bad move on their part sustainably speaking, because they created a bunch of landfill waste. They do still have plastic drinking cups and plates that they wash, but I’d like to see the washable side cups come back.

I’ve been to Dickey’s a few time for lunch. Here’s my two cents: Pro’s: *The folks working the counter and the bussing are always very friendly. *The quality of meat is good. It won’t win any awards for best BBQ, but it’s still high on my list. *Free ice cream! *I love the take home cups. It’s a great size for filling up at home when you don’t want to keep refilling, but don’t want a HUGE glass. Con’s *This place gets a considerable amount of business at lunch. To ease the lines, they should put the menu up somewhere other than the front counter. Maybe I’m a tad slow, but the menu is hard to read/understand when you get up there. Perhaps placing a smaller version of it in the long entrance hallway would work. *In relation to the first con, this place is quite cramped at lunch. They could double the size and it would probably be just right. *Ease of Sauce. Unlike other BBQ joints where the sauce is on the table, Dickey’s makes you get it from the«Sauce Bar». In order to get some sauce for your food, you have to use these awkward ladles and extremely tiny cups. This process normally involves dripping and/or spilling sauce everywhere except inside the cups. There’s just gotta be a better way to handle this.

Solid barbecue. The sauces are good and come on the side, which is always appreciated since(like others say) you can pick how much sauce you want. Good pickles(the whole damn spear) and AWESOME cornbread! It was especially convenient because I could drop of my printing at the FedEx/Kinko’s a few doors down and then pick it up right after I finished eating.

I remember when this place first opened up. I put off going in for months because I was thinking a chain BBQ restaurant couldn’t be good. I am glad I was wrong. The service is lightening fast and the employees are very polite. I work only ten minutes away from here, I order over the phone while I’m walking to my car. By the time I arrive my food is always ready.

Mmmmm… Dickey’s. I remember when this place first opened. I worked very close, so I went one day after work. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and an order of waffle fries. It was delicious. I liked how the BBQ sauce came on the side, so I could decide how much(or how little) to add. It was pretty tasty, too. Just the right amount of sweetness. The waffle fries were very tasty as well. I’d recommend this place for sure!

Whenever I’m back in St. Louis, I have to eat BBQ. I headed to Dickey’s on the recommendation of several family members, and I was not disappointed. I wasn’t aware that it was a chain till I saw the franchising information on my cup, but oh well. I opted for the 2 meats and 2 sides and tried out the beef brisket and pulled pork, along with the waffle fries and the BBQ beans. The pulled pork was by far my favorite, and the portions were huge! They have 3 different types of BBQ sauce for your dipping needs(regular, sweet, and hot). You also get your choice of cornbread or a roll with your platters, and the cornbread was very good. The waffle fries were crispy and hot, and the BBQ beans had a good flavor. I was definitely too stuffed after all my BBQ to enjoy the free ice cream Dickey’s offers, but maybe I’ll save room next time.

This place is pretty good. I just moved here from Dallas, TX, and this is a local Texas chain. The brisket here is not as good at Texas, but still fairly good. The pulled pork was good, and the polish sausage was excellent. Good rolls too. I recommend this place for those who like basic Texas BBQ.

For what you pay, this is a good deal. The place is bright and clean and the people that work here don’t hate their jobs(and thus don’t hate you for coming in). Literally, our food was on our table five minutes after we ordered. That was pleasant. I had the turkey sandwich and potato salad. I should have gotten another side. Anyway, the turkey was juicy and tasty. The only complaint that I have is that the barbeque sauce is very thin. Regardless of it’s thickness, it was still flavorful. To top it off, you get to help yourself to some free vanilla soft-serve. Kids love ice cream cones, so our kids liked this place too. I will definitely come back.

for $ 10 a person, you get your pick of 2 meats and 2 sides. smaller plates start around $ 8, and there are plenty of larger plates to accommodate heartier eaters. they have a wide selection of bbq’d meats(beef, pork, chicken, turkey, sausages), plus an even wider selection of side items(everything you’d expect from a good bbq place). soda comes in plastic«souvenir» cups you can take home. the staff was extremely nice, and even brought out an extra batch of okra for us, because i was so excited that it was on the menu. they’ve got meat by the pound and sides by the bucket for take-out as well. on the down side, the sauces were a bit thin and the sides were a bit salty. the atmosphere was«authentic», which unfortunately meant that there was rather obnoxious old-school country music playing throughout dinner. because it’s so kid/family friendly, it was also a bit loud. they might have lost a star for the downsides, but like i said, the *brought me extra okra* and that goes a very long way in my book.

I was hopeful when this place opened because there’s really no good barbecue in town that I’m aware of. Unfortunately, this is like the KFC of BBQ. It looks and tastes like fast food. The brisket was wet and bland. The BBQ sauce was runny and not nearly as good as what you can get at the supermarket. The rolls were like the kind of frozen buns you get in an elementary school cafeteria. The corn bread was decent. There’s a very nice young couple running this franchise, and it’s a shame because after meeting them I really wanted to support their business. Unfortunately, I won’t be. Not going back.
