Olema Farm House

Simply awful! Horrible food with no taste! Way overpriced, horrible service, and the cocktails were terrible. The kids burger was so bad my daughter cried! HOW DO YOU MESS UP A KIDS CHEESEBURGER!!! They also managed to mess up fish and chips!!! There is so much good food in Marin, how is this place still in business?!

Love the Farmhouse! It was Birthday Time (!) and after a long and perfect hike at the coast, I wanted to enjoy a delicious and casual meal out with homeboy. Jennifer was our server and she was very friendly, informative and had answers to all our questions. I only eat fish a few times a year and the halibut was calling my name: light, flavorful and presented like art. Homeboy got the oh-​so-​buttery-​good Sable fish with mushrooms over a pile of wilted greens. Olema Farmhouse serves bread made fresh/​local by Brickmaiden and beer brewed by Fairfax’s own Iron Springs Pub, bonus!

This post is strongly because of the wings and wine by the glass price. Only 7 bucks for delicious «house» wine. (not any house I’ve been to, Joel Gott is not a well wine) and fabulous sweet chili wings with homemade blue cheese that was to die for. The wings were from a local farm and all organic so they were a smaller size than the GMO injected wings I am used to in the East bay. Definitely a good place to stop for a snack!

Clam chowder was watery and tasted like I was going to have food poisoning in 12 hours. Service, what service? The hostess had attitude and our server was aloof. Too bad. I was excited to try this place. Although, their French fries were yummy! But at $ 6 a bowl… eh.

Stop here for lunch. Camping and this was closest eatery nearby. This was right by intersection of Highway1 and where Sir Francis Drake road ends into. Food was tasty, so why cook in camp when we can come here. Free parking lot on side. Also a deli and liquor shop next door in case you want sundries, snacks, sandwiches to eat at Pt. Reyes Park. Lunch was $ 68 tax & tip for two so a little high value for basic lunch, but very convenient and good location.

When a business falls short, but management does everything to please you, that really makes a difference in my overall experience. That being said, the bar was great– really great ginger Mojito. Nice bartender. Then dinner-​we specifically told the waiter to bring the appetizer before dinner. Major fail. The next was the over cooked, bland, dry braised beef. Did I say bland?
The oysters and clams were good. The manager, Tom, came out and really gave a 5 star customer service and really took our concerns (complaints) very well and we really hope that this special, Beautifully situated and historical restaurant overcome these problems so we can come back.

My husband and I spent the morning on Limontour Beach. On our way back home we stopped to get a bite to eat at Olema Farm House.
Pretty basic menu: burger, fish tacos etc. We ordered 2 beers, fish tacos and beer battered cod. We asked the waiter if with the cod, could we have a hamburger bun. We were willing to pay extra.
The waiter said the chef wouldn’t let us have bun with the cod because that wasn’t the way he designed the dish. It was simple beer battered cod. The waiter was pissed that we asked.
I had the tacos, they were ok. El Molino on Hwy 12 in Sonoma is way, way better. And the cod was cod. The fries were cut into 1 inch strips. A little weird.
Would we go back. Nope, food was ok at best. I’ve tasted fresher, and a better value too. Not to mention the waiter’s attitude alone would keep us from ever going back.

We were looking for a place to have oysters on our way to Point Reyes– wanted a place that serves them both raw and cooked. They had them here, but the prices were high and the oysters weren’t that great. Also had clam chowder for $ 9 and it was thin with only 3 clams. Nice atmosphere, food was just ok.

Stopped by here for a late lunch after spending most of the morning hiking. Most of our order were from the small plates menu. We ordered the sweet chili chicken, steamed clams, grilled bread, half grilled oysters, creamy polenta and warm spinach salad.
The warm salad tasted good and not overly drenched in dressing. The steamed clams were also tasty and the broth was well seasoned. The sweet chili chicken had a good kick to it but the bleu cheese that came with it was watery (don’t use it), the chicken is better without it. The grilled oysters were fresh but over priced at $ 14 for 4 medium sized oysters. The creamy polenta was bland and the carrot purée just didn’t work with it. It would’ve been better if they made the mushroom sauce incorporated with the polenta. I wanted to try the grilled bread because of the lamb bacon, if you’re a lamb lover perhaps you’d like this. I didn’t like the strong lamb taste and the fat from the lamb just drenched the bread. This was again a bit overpriced since we only got 3 small grilled bread.
Overall, the food we tried were mostly good. However, I’m giving it 3 stars just because of the price.

Crazy prices for crummy food. Except for Mac and cheese, everything we had was a disappointment: clam chowder is broth-​based instead of creamy, polenta is grey and flavorless, sides non-​existent or bland, and even the decent items (fish and chips, fish tacos) were majorly overpriced.
I’m adding a star, because there are sports on the TVs and the service is good.
We stayed at Olema Campround and hiked at Point Reyes Station, both of which are peaceful and welcoming. Next time, we’ll eat at camp.

The prices don’t match the portions.
The fish tacos were good, but for 18 I expected a lot more.
Fish and chips were good, again so small.
The oysters were as expected, really good, but we’re more expensive than hog island oyster bar at the ferry building.

Wow, why have I wanted so long to experience the Olema Farm House? I guess I always avoided it because I felt like it would be too touristy. The hubby works in the area and heard that it was under new ownership. We grabbed a few friends and went in on a Friday night for dinner. We ordered a round of cocktails while we perused the menu. The cocktails I have to admit were pretty weak, heavy on the ice and light on the liquor. The food though was so amazing it made up for the weak cocktails. At our table we had the burger, the roast which was the special of the night, fish tacos, and the vegan polenta. We all loved our dishes, and raved about them. Service was attentive, and the atmosphere was busy but not overwhelming.
What also makes the Olema Farm House cool is that you could go there for happy hour and sit at the bar and watch sports. It’s laid back but not divey. I would definitely recommend checking out this fun establishment.

This hidden/​not so hidden spot is a local favorite (we asked and they pointed us here after our hike). We intended to just grab one beer and just watch the Super Bowl and ended up staying, ordering wings, chili, pork sliders and fish tacos! Phew! What a cool staff. The chef «Chris» came out to our table and connected with us on a personal level. So down to earth. Thank You Sir’! Anyway, back to The halftime show.

Calamari was not fresh, it had an odor that was fishy. I did not eat it past a couple of rings. Fish tacos were dry, the lemon pieces were old. Romero sauce for calamari tasted like tin.
My friend’s pickle looked old. She had a burger which was passable and fries– she left half the burger and most of fries. She liked the bun.
Extremely unimpressed and doubtful the produce and protein was fresh.
My cider was lukewarm and was served with a warm glass.

So yummy, so local, high quality at the right place. Cozy old-​school décor is rad also.

Stop by for a quick Burger and Beer on a weekend drive around Lucas Valley. The restaurant manager was friendly and efficient. Meat used in the burger is grown and processed on a farm nearby which was awesome!
Burger and Fies were really good, one of the better ones I ate in the area.
I will be back for more!

Meandered here on an early saturday evening, confused to why so many other places were closed. We were attracted by the big sign regarding BBQ oysters. We were seated immediately, but it seems we made it right before the dinner time rush.
BBQ oysters — since neither the bf and I are a fan of the raw versions, we were pleasantly surprised to enjoy the smokey lemony flavors dishes out onto neatly chucked shells.
Fish & Chips — its difficult to completely ruin this classic, but this place seems to make it exceptionally crispy.
Lemon risotto — SO good. Mixed in with chock full of chunky vegetables, where the lemon and cream did not overwhelm the entrée. Vegetarian’s dream meal, paired with a small salad.
Smiling, friendly service. Interesting how they were out of 6 items on the menu (waitress said this was abnormal), but that didn’t affect our choices.

We ordered the tacos (good), the ceviche (terrible) and 12 oysters (meh). The fish (particularly on the ceviche) did NOT taste fresh, and the other flavors were so mild it was bordering on repulsive… that was disappointing considering our proximity to the source. The fish tacos were tasty, and to our waiter’s credit he was friendly and did not charge us for the ceviche. I didn’t eat the oysters, but my wife said they were just OK.
The place a great atmosphere with some TV’s so we could watch the women’s world cup final. Probably not a bad spot to catch a game & have a beer, but I’d skip the food.

They do well with restaurant atmosphere and plate presentation. Not so much on food.
The Pam Mediterranean Chicken is said to be a ½ chicken. It’s not. But it does taste good. The tomato salsa they serve with it is way overloaded with black olives making it very salty. The corn polenta is dry and leaves a grainy feel in your mouth.
The Risotto is pretty tasty but has the consistency of oatmeal.
The oyster appetizer had a green sauce that was so so.
I general. I’d pass for dinner. We didn’t try the bar food. Staff is attentive and friendly.

Tried out Olema Farm House for an early dinner after hiking at Tomales Point. It’s near Pt Reyes so you can go for drinks or food.
Ask for FREE tap water and FREE bread! Bread was served Hot and had cold butter — that was good.
Tons of flies in the private room after the bar — that was really GROSS. Flying around us, they were all over the room, on the ceilings, etc. Get a bunch of fly strips people or something!
We had a large group about 14 people and no separate checks. They didn’t add tip onto our bill that was strange, so we all tipped 20%.
Friend said their burgers are good — I didn’t try it. If you sub sweet potato fries it’s an extra $ 1. Another friend sub fruit and that’s extra $ 1 too.
One person got bowl of clam chowder $ 9 — he said it had too much lemon and not enough clams. Crackers given with it on the side.
One person got fish taco w/​a bowl of somthing beans probably? He seemed to like it, didn’t look filling to me and over-​priced $ 15!
I got a Half size Dungeness Crab Salad $ 14 — it was Huge, some crab, tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, lots of lettuce, and dressing on the side. I liked it ok, nothing special.
I don’t plan to eat here again, but friends seemed to like it.
