Description

History

Established in 1800.

The first hotel in Tewksbury was built in New Germantown (Oldwick) around 1780. No information is available regarding the deconstruction of this building, but records indicate a hotel was built on the same site in 1800.

This building, known today as The Tewksbury Inn, was built in New Germantown. The hotel was originally a stopping place for stagecoaches and a resting place for weary travelers. It was a main place for dining and sleeping between Hackettstown and Philadelphia. In 1918, anti-German sentiment during World War I, prompted the residents to change the name of the village to «Oldwick» meaning «old village.»

Little is know about the early ownership in the early 1800’s. From 1812 – 1824, James Honeyman owned the tavern. John and Wanda Zborenzy bought the hotel in 1947 and sold it in 1972 to Peter and Ruth Worthy. In 1982 Rick and Joyce Brady bought the building. And in 2006 the building was sold to Mark Marrazza.
