Omega Systems

Steve Kerns is a very skilled electrician. He’s talented, sets up competent systems and thinks ahead to the needs of the location in which he’s working. He’s obviously quite intelligent.
That said, his interpersonal skills leave much to be desired. He can be extremely sarcastic, loud and threatening. He can also be extremely rude and, borderline, threatening. He has little business interacting with customers. In an attempt to get my cable/​phone/​internet services up and running, I had the unfortunate experience of having a Comcast technician at my home for four hours… and the job still couldn’t get done. It turns out, he couldn’t figure out where the ‘smart box’ was. He opened near every panel in my home looking for it and he couldn’t find it. I contacted my contractor who contacted Steve. We played telephone for a while until i asked to put in touch with him directly. From there, he would only communicate by text. I consider sole text communication to to cryptic and frustrating. What could be accomplished in one phone call could take God-​only-​knows how many texts. It’s a waste of time, in my estimation.
That didn’t sit well with Steve.
He finally answered my questions about where the smart box was. Rather than explaining what he meant, he snarked that there was no smart box, there was a panel. Okay. Fine. I’m not an electrician. I’m going off what a technician told me. I’m sure there are plenty terms of art that I know that he doesn’t. I wouldn’t expect him to nor would I chide him for not knowing them. Because I was without phone/​cable/​internet service (the technician couldn’t find the correct wiring so nothing was set up; for someone whose job revolves around the internetz you can imagine that this was a problem), I asked Steve to come out and show me where the panel/​wires were so that by the time I could get another technician out to my house, I could lead him to the right location and I could do my job.
Steve huffed and puffed by finally agreed to come out four or so days later. When he arrived, he was hostile. He glared at me, stomped through my house, grabbed at wires, talked to me as though I was an idiot, and raised his voice. Frequently. During his time in my house, one of the contractor reps called (I recognized the name). He yelled at her like she owed him money. It was very disconcerting and I began to feel very uncomfortable. I wanted him out of my house. I did not feel safe. By the time I asked him to show me where the location of the wires/​panel because the tech couldn’t find them, he a.) yelled at me b.) threw my basement door open and c.) ripped the wires out of the wall. I told him to leave. He stomped out of my home. I, then, took photos of what he did, called my contractor, told the company that I felt threatened and did not want this man in my home ever again, and that I feared for my safety. They looked at the photos and apologized, assuring me that I was not in any physical danger. I didn’t feel so sure. Honestly, even writing this review gives me some pause. Sincerely.
Another Comcast technician came out to my home. He was able to find and access the wires (as they were hanging out of a wall and strewn about). It took him some time to get everything set up, as they weren’t labeled and he couldn’t figure out what was what without trial and error. I gave him Steve’s number to talk to (I, certainly, wasn’t going to do so). He spoke with him briefly, hung up, shook his head, laughed a bit, and told me he would ‘figure it out.‘
It’s best for Omega Systems and its customers that Steve be the person in charge of all the upfront needs while the office/​home is under construction and if there’s any follow-​up work to be done, someone else should be sent in to do that. Unfortunately, my experiences with him were that he was needlessly aggressive. He may be very good at the technical side of what he does but his customer services skills are lacking.
