Metcalf Discount Liquor

I mean– it is what it is… It’s a liquor store, and a large one at that! They have staff that is reasonably helpful, if you can snag one they’re generally knowledgable. They do have sales, and they have are obvious, right up front! There is also a large selection of wine, which I was surprised by! I’m not so sure on their speciality items, but seem to hit the basics in every category!

Solid liquor store that I never realized was here, so close to my house! Their wine selection is good, their beer selection is good, and their liquor selection is good depending on what you’re looking for. For example, vodka and rum selections are good, but Scotch whisky selections are pretty generic. Plenty of staff, but nobody too eager to help. Guy at register wasn’t more than «thanks for coming» in a monotone voice.
So, why do I say it’s solid? The liquor stores around here tend to be pretty darn basic. You have your very basic beers, very basic wines, very basic liquors. This is a step above this. It’s no Lukas, but it’s definitely closer to my house.

This is a good liquor store for wine. They have a huge selection to browse and choose from. The organization is by regions and appears to also be mass production. Your mass produced winery’s that make everything appear to be on one side, with your more selective wines on the other. There will be a few exceptions (Skinny Girl mixed in with the selective ones), but this seemed to be the general rule of thumb. They didn’t have many postings with the wines describing them or giving ratings. This was a little disappointing, but make sure you do your research before going if you are wanting a specific taste. There also wasn’t any offers of help. This is something I tend to like, maybe I am spoiled my my favorite neighborhood liquor store, but I like to see what is suggested. This is especially so in a store that has a huge selection of wines to choose from.
They also have a decent selection of beer and hard liquors, I didn’t browse much through these areas.
Along with the lack of offers to assist, the check out staff wasn’t overly friendly. They weren’t rude, but a little effort outside of a friendly hi would be nice in the customer service department.

They get it right. Very helpful, great prices and easy to get in and out. This is the only place to purchase your liquor.

Free State beer! No more transporting liquor across county lines for me, they have Free State beer! Yaaaayyyy!!! All the Ad Astra and Wheat State Golden and Oatmeal Stout and Cooperhead you want! Woot!
Ok, they also have lots of neat seasonal beers, other good local breweries, and a huge wine selection. Plus the staff was pretty nice and didn’t laugh at my bubbly geekiness over the FSB.
The only minus is the proximity to WalMart and the associated rif-​raf that orbit the Evil Empire. Just drive carefully as you are on a mission to get some Free State and ignore the WalMart shoppers out for a case of Bud Light.
