Academy Sports and Outdoors

Well for sports stores the store it’s clean it’s nice conveniently located the only thing is they have a lot of lower end things so their prices are cheaper than most the other sports stores but that’s because you’re getting the middle of the line or low end of a line of items a lot of the times so just pay attention to what you’re buying but for the price its not bad.

Excellent customer service and prices are next to unbeatable. I feel as though some associates may not fully grasp all of the availabe products and their information but i normally take it upon myself to learn what it is i need and checking availability beforehand. Overall, my experience was great, very family oriented and friendly. The only issues ive ever seen is a fellow shopper losing thier temper to fast, i think we all need to understand that these guys simply work thier tail off to help us get things we want. Im grateful for their patience and will to help.

Tried to buy my daughter cowboy boots that they had there 2 months ago. Was told that although men’s and boys western boots are carried year round, women’s and girls are seasonal and right now they carry women and girls sandals. I don’t know how they think that is fair. It’s not equal and not fair. I guess females don’t wear cowboy boots during spring and summer months, but men do… at least according to Academy Sports. Our maybe they believe that the amount of space they dedicate to women should be less than men. Not good Academy.

Went here to buy a handgun. I’m an avid hunter and fun owner. Never have been denied or rejected for background check. The young man at Academy had not filed out a NICS form and did mine incorrectly. Came back delayed. No problem, things happen. I called the FYI and the form was not in the system. Called the store and was told I had to wait 30 days to reapply. Called corporate and was asked to email, which I did. Got a promise to contact me back in 24 hours. That was 45 days ago.
I purchased from a local gun shop got a great price and the pprocess took about 30 minutes, during which time I had a great conversation and a cup of coffee.
Not very impressed with Academy, they have good prices, but lack quality service. Better trained in their department would help. They young man selling guns had never shoot a gun, so was virtually of no help. Like puttng a fisherman in the golf department.
I guess the moral of this review is to use your local contacts, better folks and often they will match or beat prices.

Located next door to prairie life center. Great selection of outdoor and sports items. Prices are competitive, but not noteworthy on their logo items (such as Chiefs or KU). I have seen great deals on outerwear such as coats and pants. Staff is incredibly attentive (try walking accross the store and not having at least 2 people greet you and ask if you have questions… can’t do it!).
