Sean Cummings Irish Restaurant & Pub

This pub is closed, but here is an old story we wrote about the place back in 2014! We ended up playing there every Wednesday for a year! it was awesome!
Sean Cummings is the real deal traditional Irish Pub, complete with Celtic music, no exceptions. They have live music seven nights a week. You wouldn’t think there are so many Celtic musicians in OKC, but there are, and here is why: While many music scenes are exclusive clubs resisting musicians from outside their clique, Sean Cummings’ Pub takes a different approach. Everyone is welcome, as long as they play Celtic music, simple as that. It’s a cozy place to experience and celebrate the culture.
Over winter break cabin fever set in, and we decided spur-​of-​the-​moment to head over to Sean Cummings. Roger Graham, a friend, had a gig there. We stepped in and chatted with him for a moment. He said, «It’s a shame you didn’t bring your instruments.» Casey replied, «Actually we did.» Roger exclaimed, «What are you waiting for, bring em in here!!» So we played the three Celtic tunes we knew for the pub.
Afterwards while enjoying a pint, the manager sat down and invited us to return for our own night. We gladly agreed. Back home, we scoured the internet for Celtic songs that moved us, and the woodshedding began.
In a week’s time we learned, Back Home in Derry, Dropkick Murphy’s Shipping Off to Boston, Banish Misfortune, Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, Dirty Old Town, Scotch Cap, Enya’s Sail Away, and many more. Our first Wednesday night gig at Sean Cummings was packed. There wasn’t an empty seat in the house. A lot of love was in the room!
Lucky for us we were invited back to play the remaining Wednesdays in January. We hadn’t been completely Celtic at our first gig, so we kept working on new material, aiming for one hundred percent!
Three weeks into our residency it occurred to us that Sean Cummings is more than an Irish pub, it is the catalyst for an awakening. We have become more aware and connected to a culture that loves music and comradery. We have learned a new musical language. Thank you Sean Cummings!

With sadness, I have to update the review to say that the pub has officially closed (but definitely not changing it to anything less than five stars). An issue arose where the landlord no longer wanted a pub in the plaza. Sean hosted what essentially became a farewell weekend in November: one night was the final night of the full menu and live music, the next night was a buffet style and drinks until everything ran out. Friends and patrons that frequented the pub packed the place. While the pub is now closed, Sean opened a new restaurant called Land and Sea in its place. He is hopeful to one day reopen the pub in a new location. In the meantime, it will be sorely missed. I have many fond memories that I will always cherish.

I come here with my friend from time to time to just chill out and talk. The food is typical of the area that it comes from: Greasy and delicious.

They also have live music from time to time. Not really a pro or con for me, but it might appeal to someone, so FYI.

This place has great service, food and drinks. Full Liquor bar, because sometimes I want a drink without the bar scene. I’m not a beer drinker but their beer menu has all the beers that you would expect an Irish pub to have.

I find myself rarely giving two stars because I find it hard to distinguish between experiencing better and something being okay but overall my feeling toward Sean Cummings is that I certainly have experienced better.
It was very cramped, granted it was a Saturday night, but it was uncomfortably so because a group of 4 nerdy fellows and their one female friend were taking up pretty much the whole front of the restaurant and acting obnoxiously drunk at about 6:30. I can understand that at like 8 at the earliest, but come on. Doesn’t make it fun for the other patrons to put it simply.
I had a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded pretty good but I went with the Irish stew. It was supposed to have lamb, beef, and veggies. I’m almost positive there was only beef and no lamb, but the beef was nice-​sized chunks and tasted good. The broth though and the overall taste of the dish was much like any store bought canned beef stew. Definitely not worth the $ 10.99 I paid for it.
I did like the bread they brought out beforehand since I didn’t really expect that from a place like this. I feel like some of their other dishes are probably better, but after this experience, I don’t know if I’ll give them another try or not.

Well, well, well… it’s been awhile since I’ve written anything that required a little effort and… I guess just effort, really.
In all honesty, the comparison to McNellie’s shouldn’t be made. It’s just not a fair comparison. One place has 3 floors and offers over 300 beers. The other has a cramped dining area with a small patio and a modest beer selection. (The beers available at Cummings are solid, though.)
The atmosphere was offensive. The Missus and I walk in and had a choice of 3 tables, all of which were next to the most obnoxious lady I’ve seen in awhile. I know one person shouldn’t slant my view of a place, but even the staff seemed ready to see her leave. That’s not a low blow to the staff. They were all extremely pleasant and helpful. It’s just one of those things you notice if you people-​watch as much as I do. If I had been a server that night, I would have been fired for what I would have said to that woman. I felt like someone (server or manager) should have at least told her to use her «indoor voice.» And before you ask why I wasn’t the person to say anything… I was with the Missus, and I try to be on my best behavior.
As for the food… I had the organic greens salad and twice baked potato. The salad was really good and the vinaigrette dressing definitely had the taste of something that was made in-​house. The twice baked potato was alright. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had and certainly not the worst… just wasn’t something to write home about. The Missus had their stew and was unimpressed. You can read her review when she post it, but she basically said that the stew tasted like it came out of a can.
Comparing Cummings to similar establishments, I can only conclude that I have experienced better. 2 stars.

Blows McNellies out of the water.
When you step inside Sean Cummings you fell as if you’ve just stepped into a quaint little pub in Ireland. It’s dimly lit, with Irish decorations all around, a bar (which is usually full) and lively Celtic music on the weekends.
What makes this place so much better than McNellies (besides its authentic and charming atmosphere) is the food. For a true Irish experience order yourself a Half & Half (½ Guinness and ½ Harp — trust me, you’ll love it) and the Bangers and Mash, a really traditional Irish meal of sausages, gravy, and mashed potatoes. My favorite thing on the menu by far though is the Salmon Boxty. These are crepes filled (FILLED!) with salmon and topped with a mushroom cream sauce and served with mashed potatoes. Delicious!
I would recommend going on a Friday or Saturday night so you can enjoy the wonderful Celtic music as well but make sure you get there early because this place doesn’t have a lot of tables and it fills up quick.

Sean Cummings is so cozy and so Irish that after spending an hour in there sipping Irish brews with friends, you almost forget you’re on May Ave in OKC. The atmosphere is perfectly Irish, and they have some hilarious wall hangings. (Ex «God made whiskey to keep the Irish from taking over the world») Authentic Irish beers. Authentic Irish spirits. Authentic Irish cuisine. I’m surprised I didn’t hear anyone speaking Gaelic while I was there. I had a few beers and my girlfriend ordered the CHICKEN LIPS AND CHIPS. These «chips» are about ¼ of a large potato. Huge, fried, and delicious, these potato spears are about as big as the chicken lips, which are basically large chicken tenders. This place gets extra brownie points because right when I walked in, I noticed they have my last name and family crest hanging on the wall. Awesome. I will definitely be visiting this tiny pub more often to explore more of the menu. Reason for only 4 stars: 1) not many options for dipping sauce for the chicken lips, 2) bartender didn’t seem as helpful as I would’ve hoped.

I think it is a genius idea to have a patio pub next to a firestone! I needed a little work done on my car today and I didn’t want to watch Fox News and inhale tire scent. I opted to go next door to the Irish pub and have a beer on their patio.
The pub didn’t open for 5 minutes but they let me come in a little early and have a beer while they set up for dinner. I loved that! They checked my ID also… Bonus points! I turned 30 this year… Side note.
I sat on the patio because it is a beautiful day! I love the décor of the bar though. It is adorable. I will be back soon to try the food.

First of all, it’s hard to find, int the «there is no sign» hard to find. Apparently it is right next door to an Italian restaurant which we figured out finally when we opened the door and could go left for Italian, right for Sean’s. We had read the prior reviews and looked forward to good food and great service, unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. No hostess so you just walk in and attempt to find a seat in the tiny dining area. It took a long time for someone to notice us (since u seat yourself).
We both ordered fish and chips. The wait was very long for the food (which we were hoping that would be because it was so good). The fish was tough, chewy and lukewarm even though the breeding was super hot. The «chips» were long cuts of a whole potato, no seasoning, lukewarm and very bland.
It took forever to get our check and we had to find the waiter twice to get our check (which in a tiny place like this, it shouldn’t be a problem)
Ambience wise, it’s dark, duct tape noted on a chair… won’t be coming back…

I came here for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. The environment is great and when we were there they had a pretty good band playing. I had the fish and chips, which was a huge portion. The noise level was loud, so if you’re looking for a quiet place to have dinner this probably isn’t it. I haven’t been back yet, but I plan on it.

Good little irish pub. Great atmosphere. Kind of small and tight quarters especially when there is a performer. Vey friendly staff. Food was good. The portions were kind of small, but I did leave full. I had the corned beef and cabbage and my friend enjoyed thempotato soup. Highly recommend for a high energy irish experience.

Sean Cummings, you’re great.
I love this place because it’s exactly what I want from an Irish Pub. It’s small, it’s cozy, it has live Irish music.
The thing I’m most excited about is that they pour Guiness exactly how it’s supposed to be poured. I was so excited to get a really good Black Velvet with the right proportions and the perfect texture.
Whenever I’m home I’ll make sure to come back and visit.

Had a meal and some brews today. Service was A+. Brew was A+. Would recommend this place for good beer and device. Not to mention good food. You must try the bangers and mash with a Guinness. Oh, also the potato cakes are excellent. I will be back with my friends. Thanks Shawn.

Really fun place to go! Great pub, great atmosphere, live music every night, and tasty food. Really feels like an Irish pub in some small town in Ireland. Intimate and rowdy in the best of ways — such as pounding fists and mugs on the table to Irish drinking songs! Authentic Irish food like corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, bangers and mash, meat pies, and shepherds pie. Everything is good and the patrons are a riot.

I’ve passed this place SO many times, and it’s across the street from T An Urban Teahouse! So I finally went last night.
It was a bit loud inside, but in a good way. Everyone was enjoying themselves and most of the loudness came from breaks of genuine laughter. Later a man came to play live music on his guitar, singing some lovely folksongs. It really brought everything together. Especially because it seemed like there were a few regulars there who knew the songs, and banged their table and tossed back some banter accordingly.
I had their cider that was on tap, Angry Orchard. It is soooo good!
Food!:
Corned beef and cabbage ⁴⁄₅: This dish was delicious. It came with a halved red potato that was yummy and soft. The cabbage was good, could have used a LITTLE more flavored, but that’s not a big deal. And the meat was plentiful and tasty.
Fish and chips ⁵⁄₅: I tasted my sister’s fish and it was so amazing. I’ve never had better. I may get it next time I go…
Great experience. I’ll definitely be back.

Sure hope they’re nicer in person than they are on the phone. God forbid someone ask if this shitty little bar is too busy for two people to come right in and sit down to eat on a Saturday.

Great little pub off May Ave right next to Vito’s Italian in a strip mall. Such an unlikely place to find great pub food and entertainment.
The BF’s family is of Irish decent and love this place. It’s a cute little pub (I don’t think the words «cute» and «pub» should be used in the same sentence, but it came out any way!) that really did remind me of one that I visited at the Temple Bar in Dublin. We came to celebrate a 60^th birthday at around 4:45pm. It wasn’t very crowded, but as we ordered our food and drinks, people started filtering in quickly.
I ordered the Fish and Chips and opted for the regular fries because I read that they normally come with potato wedges– I’m not a fan of wedges unless it’s a salad. I like my fries crispy! I tasted a piece of the burger and thought the bacon was out of this world! Not too fatty, not dry. The wheat soda bread comes free to the table is out of this world! It’s sweet, dense and goes good with a smear of butter.

Limited but dope bottle list, they rep beers better than most other Irish pubs I’ve been to. Pub fare is less surprising, the usual menu spread of what you’d expect. Our fearless tour guide swears by the salmon club, and the potato wedges were agreeably cooked and seasoned. Overall the bangers & mash made for a decent plate, though the former was a bit overcooked. I wouldn’t order the stew again; while the ingredients were all cooked through, the broth had been thickened without flavor factored back in.
Thematic live music was a little louder than ideal but the performers were clearly well-​practiced. I’m told it gets packed towards the weekend. Despite a light to moderate showing the evening we went, service was friendly if a bit sparse. Single occupancy bathrooms were clean and spacious enough to store a child seat in. I’d be happy to return for an Irish breakfast with another brew or three.

Sean Cummings is the most authentic Irish Pub in OKC. I wouldn’t have found this place on my own, though. I was told by a friend who had happened across it. When my wife and I lived in the OKC metro, we didn’t live close, but after discovering it, we drove to it once a week. There are definitely people who consider this their local, which is cool.
What SC’s isn’t is a mass-​marketed Irish chain. It is an independent, little engine that could. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food is excellent! I recommend the bangers and mash or their Irish Fry-​Up (Irish Breakfast). They bring you soda bread and butter to start. Be sure to try out the bread pudding, best in the city. My hat is off to Sean Cummings for a job well done.
