Description

Specialties

OKC Improv is Oklahoma’s premier performance showcase and teaching institution dedicated to the art of improvisational comedy and theater. In addition to producing regular shows featuring the best local and regional improv acts, we work to raise awareness and understanding of improv among audiences and practitioners through publicity, outreach, and education including ongoing classes and workshops.

OKC Improv performs 3 – 5 week runs every at The Paramount Theater located at 11 N Lee Ave. in Oklahoma City. Shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Each show is 90 – 120 minutes and features at least 2 different acts. We feature performers from all over Oklahoma and the surrounding region. Tickets are $ 10 each and $ 5 for improvisers and improv students. Admission is FREE if you’re celebrating your birthday with us! Advance purchase of tickets is suggested as most shows sell out.

History

Established in 2009.

OKC Improv was founded in December, 2009 by Marcy Fleming, Buck Vrazel, Clint Vrazel, and Eric Webb. In the past 2.5 years the number of active performance groups in the metro has increased from 5 to 35. We have taught over 225 classes, graduating nine sections of Adult Level 1 and 2 Classes, five sections of Level 3, and 9 Middle School Classes. We have held 6 community jams and entertained over 4,500 people at over 150 shows (more than half of which were sold out) and worked with over 50 different acts from Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, and Seattle.

Meet the Manager

Sue R.

Manager

Sue has been serving as OKC Improv’s development consultant since June 2011 and took on the role of Managing Director in May 2012. But her involvement in the Oklahoma improv scene began in 1994, when she was a founding member of Everybody and Their Dog, which still performs today. Sue also coordinates and performs in the MiDolls and Fortune’s Fools. Her theatre management experience spans decades — Sue holds a master’s in arts administration and a bachelor’s in drama/speech education. She’s worked for the Dallas Ballet, Prairie Dance Theatre, Street Players Theatre and Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park — where she was managing director for more than 20 years. In addition to her expertise in arts management and performance, Sue has taught improv and acting classes at the University of Central Oklahoma since 1995, and has also lead classes and workshops with Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, the OKC Parks and Recreation Department, and OKC Improv.
