Northwest Library

Went here for the first time this week and was so impressed. It’s very modern and nice. The kids area is cute with an outdoor area as well. We look forward to coming here a lot more in the future.

Beautiful library inside and out. It was fun to take my daughter’s picture with the dinosaur and lizard outside. The signage inside is unique and fun. The sink in the bathroom is fun to wash your hands in. There is a play section for kids to play matching games, set up gears, do puzzles, turn wheels to move the alphabet and a spinner and a few other activities.

Need a reminder that public libraries are still indeed relevant to 21^st century living? Step inside the absolutely gorgeous Northwest branch of the Metropolitan Library System.
This library boasts 60 computers for public use. Some computers have age-​restrictions, as in you must be a teen to use a computer in the designated computer cluster. I find that to be an incredibly smart idea. The main computer cluster is in the middle of the library, and if you think tax dollars are wasted because everyone has their own personal computer, take a look at any given day. These computers are in use!
Along with connecting folks on the other side of the digital divide (yes, that’s a real thing!), Northwest provides a wealth of resources. The teen and childrens’ collections are packed full of materials. Along with books, there are audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, CD’s, everything you could ever need from a library. You don’t have to buy every single ebook off Amazon. Metro Library System has Overdrive, where you can check out ebooks to your devices. It’s pretty awesome.
Aside from the great collection and availability of computers, the space was beautifully designed. Lots of sunlight is allowed in the space, thanks to the glass exterior. Did you know Northwest Library is the first LEED library in the state of Oklahoma? Now you do.
They also have some great meeting rooms that are quite sizable and can accommodate your group. I’ve attended a couple OLA workshops here, and the rooms are fantastic for these functions.
I really cannot gush about Northwest Library enough. It has set a precedent for what an excellent public library can look like. Heck, even the academic libraries (my workturf!) can take a page out of their book.

Also, you can park your car close enough to the building and take advantage of free wifi when they aren’t open. Shhhhhh!

Went here on a Sunday afternoon to study. A very cool library with great design and architecture. They have study rooms you can reserve, but only for two hours at a time. Which is a downside for me, because if I’m driving to that library I’ll probably be there for more than 2 hours. There are a lot of different types of seating — chairs, booth, couches etc. I’ve heard great things about the children’s section, too! It’s definitely a cool place to check out and change up your study pattern!

What, that wasn’t enough?
Other excellent features include:
1. Modern design (lots of glass and… wood… and… stuff. I don’t know, I’m not an architect, I just know I like it).
2. No gross smell, which seems to be a frequent problem at some (all) of the other MLS libraries.
3. Fairly impressive collection compared to the other MLS libraries.
4. Everything just has a new, fresh, clean vibe to it. Even the people. They don’t look like they’re homeless. I know. I’m a terrible person. I’m working on it.
Go. Go now. Even if it’s just to go sit there. Bring your laptop and use the free wi-​fi. You’ll feel more productive in this place.
Dear God, please let this place not fall apart and go to Hell. I need this place.

10+ stars. This library gives me hope. Hope that public buildings can all be this beautiful one day. Hope that my kids will want to come here instead of playing video games. Hope that I can learn something new. It’s an amazing place. Trust me!

For the longest time I saw this place being constructed and never knew what it was going to be. The design is unusual (for OKC) and seeing how everything is becoming digital, I was pleasantly surprised that this was a library and so close to home.
This library is sleek on the inside and out. The décor is modern and very pleasant to be in. They have lots of computer stations, small reading and meeting rooms, awesome do it yourself checkout system and wonderful nooks to curl up with a book.
I get a warm fuzzy feeling every time I drive by and see the parking lot full or when I go in and see so many people of all ages making the most of this awesome addition to the community.
