If you are looking for a new buffet experience, New City Buffet will leave you longing for the Old Country Buffet that it previously was. Their attempt at the American buffet cuisine misses the mark. The bright spots that exist are the Asian style food, but even then it is just the run of the mill Chinese buffet. Cook to order stations we not manned at all times and it was unclear who to ask to prepare the food. The sushi station had decently prepared rolls which I thought was good for a buffet style restaurant. The American style food missed the mark. The meatloaf was flavorless and slightly dense. Glazed carrots were seasoned with herbs but did not have the typical brown sugar and butter glaze that tastes so good. To make it worse the carrots were really undercooked. When choosing dessert it appeared many of the dishes had been sitting for a while. The bread pudding was dry and tasted like I was just eating unsweetened bread. In summary, save your money and try going to the Brody complex cafeteria on MSU’s campus if you want a good buffet with American style dishes at a decent price.
