The Lavender Inn

This is such a great little inn with a lot of charm. We stayed here for only one night, but next time we would like to stay longer to take advantage of the beautiful garden. Breakfast was excellent, and far exceeded our expectations. Also, the staff was very nice, and the two porch kitties provided a warm welcome every time we came back through the front door.

LOVED LOVED LOVED our stay at The Lavender Inn. We just spent my bday weekend there and what a memorable one it will be. From the moment we drove up, we both knew it was the right decision to stay here. The grounds, front and back are so beautiful. The house is charming and the instant you walk in you feel comfortable and at ease. The staff is so friendly and easy to talk with. My boyfriend was a bit unsure about a B&B but he was instantly at ease and loved it also. Our room was very pretty and the bedding. linens, pillows were so nice and the bed was super comfortable. We enjoyed the tapas and wine in the late afternoon. Very well put together, and we enjoyed meeting the other guests in a casual setting. The breakfasts here are awesome!!! Everything is fresh and full of flavor We made sure we were back from our hikes or bike rides by 9 am so we could enjoy the delightful breakfast out on the patio. What a treat every morning. My BF was a bit disappointed that it’s a vegetarian Inn but he soon got over that since the food was amazing. We loved sitting on the front porch and playing cards, while people watching. The location of the Inn is in walking distance to everything. This is the perfect place to stay for a charming and magical and peaceful getaway. Thank you to Beth and the wonderful chefs who made our stay one we will be talking about for years to come. We’re already trying to figure out when we can get back for another stay.

We stayed last weekend in room 8, the little cottage. The cottage was lovely, spacious, comfortable and opened on to a private garden. We loved the room, the happy hour with tasty hors d’oeuvres, and the incredible breakfasts. One morning we had early appointments at The Oaks and we were going to miss breakfast, but the sweet cook, Vanessa?, brought breakfast to our room! We were so spoiled. This is the third time I have stayed at the Inn, each time a few years apart, and the service has been consistently outstanding. We will be back. Hopefully, sooner next time.

I booked a trip as a gift to my wife for Valentine’s weekend. Lavender Inn caught my eye because I saw that they accommodated vegan & vegetarian diets, which I was very excited to see for a Bed & Breakfast. I was expecting perhaps an offering of vegan butter on toast, but what we got was so much more.
Both mornings we were there, the hosts made us special separate breakfasts that mirrored what the other guests were served. One morning we were given a baked sweet potato with cinnamon and butter and another morning we were given a soy chorizo hash. This was in addition to some buffet style items that were available to other guests but were also vegan friendly (bread & jam, fruit salad, etc).
Lavender Inn also offers an afternoon wine & tapas, all included in the price of the stay. It was a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy the garden and grounds of the Inn. The staff also made sure that we were offered items that fit into our diet, like sauteed brussel sprouts and shallots.
The room itself that we stayed in was great, clean with a small private balcony overlooking downtown Ojai.
Next time I go to Ojai I will definitely be booking a room here again.

We spent a perfect Valentine’s weekend in Ojai, thanks in big part to the Lavender Inn! First, the location is absolutely ideal — less than 5 minutes walking, and you’re smack dab in the middle of all the shops and restaurants. We stayed in the Red Room, which overlooked the garden. It was quaint and quiet with a great view.
The only negative (I would give 4.75 stars if I could) is the shower — the water pressure is so low, I wasted more water spending 10 minutes trying to get all the conditioner out with the low-​flow shower head than I would have if the pressure was adequate.
Ok back to the many positives: my absolutely favorite part of our stay was Tapas hour! Between 5 – 6 they put out wine and appetizers for guests to enjoy. Sitting on the patio at sunset with a glass of wine, chatting between ourselves and with other guests, was the perfect way to end the day! I would absolutely recommend the Lavender Inn to anyone looking for a weekend away in beautiful Ojai — I know we will be back!

My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary weekend there. Everything was perfect. I liked it so much I want to celebrate our next anniversary at the Lavender Inn.

I just have one word for Lavender Inn. This is the ideal place for a family-​get-​together wedding party. Ojai is kinda spanish style (maybe I am wrong) with a lot of surprises. Quite in favor of the mountain behind, the old book market library and the symbolic post office. Pity not have had a postcard sent out from it.
The temperature was actually quite winter when I was staying there. But I feel like i was having sunshine all over in the yard with the beautiful weather there.
A place I would definitely recommend!

The Lavender Inn is our magical weekend escape from Los Angeles so when we got engaged, we knew exactly where wanted to have our wedding. Our friends and family were enchanted by The Lavender Inn, and they loved the charming garden in back where we hosted our ceremony and reception. We worked closely with the innkeeper, Beth, throughout the planning process. She was easily accessible and a pleasure to work with in the months leading up to our big day. On the day of the wedding itself, Beth did an excellent job coordinating vendors and managing the flow of the event. This is the perfect venue for an intimate and sophisticated, yet down-​to-​earth, wedding. We absolutely love The Lavender Inn and cannot wait to return there for many years to come to celebrate our love and hide away in exquisite Ojai!

I live locally but stay here occasionally when I have people in town and give them my home, or have renovations. The Lavender Inn is an example of what a true B&B is/​should be. Comfortable and quaint, with a lovely staff. Beth is so wonderful and engaging, and the little touches like wine/​cheese hour and breakfast are so great. Vanessa is also lovely — friendly, and always making sure you’re happy and comfy. Very welcoming.
The location is perfect — right next to Farmer’s Market on Sundays, across the street from my favorite natural food store, and right in the heart of town. Banks, coffee shops, and local shopping is within steps and you can reduce your carbon footprint by not having to drive anywhere since it’s all so close!

Amazing place… breakfast was awesome both days… very relaxing… located close to shops, and coffees houses. back yard is quiet and the little pond adds nice ambience… wedding my friends had there very small but the staff took very good care always asking if they needed help with anything.

This is not the first time I have visited the Lavender Inn, and I have enjoyed my visits every time. It is a beautiful little realm in its own right. The décor in the inn is lovely. Their garden is also wonderful and well-​equipped for relaxation as various corners are set up with tables and chairs. They even have a hammock that I enjoyed on this visit. I actually spent a nice bit of time enjoying the garden. It was truly relaxing and refreshing to spend time there working on drawings, reading and such. Their evening tapas are delicious, as is the breakfast that they serve. Even something as simple as their coffee was delicious! It was evident that the meals and treats they provided were made with wonderful fresh ingredients, and with wonderful attention to culinary detail.
The staff were lovely during my visit, yet I have a bit of feedback. I got the impression that some of the staff are a bit shy and sometimes came across as aloof. They actually were not, as I found everyone to be quite nice and helpful. I think that the «aloof impression» can be taken care of by just showing their beautiful smiles!

I can’t imagine having a better experience staying anywhere else! My husband and I enjoyed a minimoon in Ojai and decided to stay at the Lavender Inn. The warmth, hospitality and simple, yet classic beauty of the Inn is unmatchable. The breakfasts and wine hours are so delicious and well-​presented. We took advantage of the porch as well as the grounds and in turn, it felt like a little home away from home. I would recommend staying here to anyone passing through or visiting Ojai– it seems to capture the charm and genuine spirit of the city itself!

My negative review is not of the beauty that this venue has but more on the service or lack of service provided at a wedding I attended. The manager/​wedding planner was absent or not available during much of the wedding. Her staff was in need of direction but did not know how to proceed.
We were very disappointed that we had to set up many of the chairs for the wedding. It just seemed that there was a lack of proper supervision & management available.
I love the venue but the service was not good. Be sure you specify in you contract that if your are going to pay the high you expect top notch service.

Spent the weekend and was very pleased with the hospitality. Lauren was extremely helpful, the breakfast was great, the room and the bath was clean. We will go back next time we are in town.

We just spent a lovely weekend in Ojai! We want to give a shout out to Vanessa! She kicked off our weekend by being super friendly, helpful and she makes a «mean» breakfast!
We enjoyed the location, the beautiful old home, the garden and especially our balcony that overlooked the garden. As we were spending the first weekend Away from our daughter we went home feeling rejuvenated, happy and very relaxed! Job well done :)

I checked in last night. There are about a half-​dozen steps to both the main entrance and the office entrance, so if you are schlepping a heavy suitcase, carry it only once – up to the office.
During check-​in, Diane was… informative. Not warm and friendly. Neither was it a bad/​negative check-​in: it was just blah. No enthusiasm, no sense of kindness, just a person charging my credit card and answering questions. I get warmer welcomes at regular hotels.
The rooms are up a tall, dark and narrow flight of stairs. (How heavy is that suitcase?)
The room is nice. Not ooh-​wow-​swooning nice; just nice. There’s a twin bed, a double bed, an armoire, extra blanket, a mirror on the wall and water on the nightstand. Oh, and lots of outlets and free wi-​fi. I travel with a hotspot so the free wi-​fi isn’t necessary for me, but the outlets – much appreciated.
Turns out this room shares a bathroom. I’m pretty sure I would have remembered that important little detail when deciding where to stay. But apparently I missed it. So I hope people who book «Cozy Retreat» read this and don’t have a problem sharing a bathroom with a stranger who leaves the toilet seat up and a piece of tissue floating in questionable water. (Yeah, that just happened.)
Breakfast is from 9−10am. But I’m not partaking because I’m not hungry AND I plan to jump in the shared shower while others are eating. Lord I hate sharing bathrooms with strangers.
During the night, there was banging. Not the banging you’re thinking goes on at B&Bs, but literal banging. Either the doors to the other rooms are unnaturally loud, or the people closing them just don’t care about banging around. Or turning on the insanely loud, pulsing bathroom air vent. You hear everything here.
I woke up this morning to the garbage truck. And the chickens. And a dog. Which in writing, sounds sweet and quaint. In reality, it’s not really.
On the plus side, the entrance of the Inn is pretty and picturesque, and it’s right across the street from a health-​minded grocery store/​deli: less than 20 steps door to door.
I won’t be staying at Lavender again. Is it that bad? No. But it’s like a pretty dress on a mannequin. It looks nice, but there’s nothing there to love.

We attended a wedding in this beautiful location. The backyard was transformed to a ceremonial site, dining and dancing areas. Well done. One recommendation is to consider some means to provide some shade during the ceremony.
Although we didn’t stay in the Inn we toured the place. It was spacious with a good amount of rooms which have their own restrooms with the exception of two that shared a bathroom.
Close proximity to town.

We had a lovely stay at the Lavender Inn. The rooms are simple — ours (the Lavender Room) didn’t have a television, but that was actually fine for the sort of laid back, getaway we were looking for. The room was very quiet at night and had nice little balcony overlooking the cute garden. It’s located in a very central part of town, which makes it walking distance to most of what you’d be interested in walking to.
The breakfast and wine/​hors d’oeuvres happy hour were also very good. The wine we had one night, in particular, was surprisingly excellent. I’m a pretty snobby wine person and I thought the Chardonnay was delightful — neither an oak bomb nor harsh. There definitely seemed to be a focus on meat-​free foods at breakfasts, but it’s Ojai, so that’s probably to be expected. We didn’t mind — plenty you can still do with eggs, cheese, grains and veggies. Though, the blueberry muffins could have used a bit of sugar.
A few spots of constructive criticism: like almost all inns/​hotels, they could use more bathroom hooks. It’s a cheap fix that would help make preserving bath towels for more than one use easier. If memory serves me correctly, the showerhead wasn’t great — which is also a cheap, easy fix.
I’d definitely recommend it. Great staff, lovely place, solid breakfast/​snacks, excellent location.

The fountain and lights in the HUGE backyard give it a tranquil and romantic feel. Very nice staff!
The bed we had was a bit uncomfortable, to firm and felt like it could be replaced, but the room was clean and had a great view to the yard. We left the windows open for the sounds and view. The shower was small too, so don’t plan on showering together as a couple.
The wine and cheese hour could use a better cheese selection, we only had one choice of cheese and it wasn’t top notch… And a few more snacks or more fruit would help. Great wine though!
Overall, we would stay again if in Ojai and I recommend it.

We loved loved loved the Lavender Inn. A few weeks ago we were at the Ojai Farmers Market and peeked in the windows of the Lavender Inn. Linda, one of the innkeepers saw us and asked if we wanted a tour. She was so sweet and walked us around the small property. That evening we booked our stay.
We booked the Provence Cottage (since we had an infant with us, the Inn asks that any children or babies stay in the Provence Cottage as its separate to not disturb the other guests). The cottage was a two room suite with a private entrance as well as an entrance from inside the Inn. It has two tvs, a bathroom with full tub, a wet bar with fridge, and fresh flowers in vases all over. The cottage has its own private garden with a few tables, chairs, fountain, and even an old chandelier hanging from the tree.
Each night there was wine and cheese served in the dining room which most guests enjoyed somewhere in the large garden and patio of the inn. There were figs, cheeses, crackers, meats, and a bit of fruit with a red and white wine each evening.
For breakfast, there was local homemade granola, a variety of breads, fresh fruits and berries, and each morning we had potatoes and onions as well as an egg dish. We both loved the breakfasts.
Everyone was very friendly and the location is perfect. We did not move our car once during our stay. We walked right next door for the Farmers Market and each day walked to lunch or dinner and even brought pizza back to enjoy on our patio one night. It was such a perfect place to go relax and do nothing. We loved the Lavender Inn and really really really look forward to our return.
