Jack Boyd Community Center

The Martin Gymnasium at the Jack Boyd Community Center in Sarzotti Park isn’t much to look at, but they do have drop-​in basketball games on Saturday from 6:00 — 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 4:00 — 6:00 PM. What a concept! A Community Center that’s has some open time for the community!
I’ve played a couple times and it’s a decent mix of ages and skill levels and because of that It’s a good place to work on your game if it has dropped off, much like my game has. Assuming that you’ve actually played the game a little bit, you probably won’t get dominated and there will probably be a few guys there that won’t let you dominate even if you are pretty good.
Games are played on the short side courts across the main court so it can accommodate up to 20 people at one time. This makes for less fast breaks and less running generally, which for my 6’4″, 300 lb frame is a welcome treat. But it also jams up the middle and makes the game a little claustrophobic.
They ask for $ 3 to play — make sure you bring singles, it’s very informal and they probably won’t be breaking a twenty for you.
