Brennan’s Market specializes in chin drippin’ fruit, fresh vegetables Wisconsin cheese, exclusive microwines, specialty food and microbrews. Brennan’s buys direct from growers and artisans to bring high quality and unique products to their customers.

History

Established in 1942.

Our story begins in 1942 when my father Frank Brennan opened a fruit stand in Monroe, Wisconsin. In the beginning, Frank purchased fruit from various locations, but he always found that he got the best produce when he personally visited farms and selected his fruit. As a result of his experience, he formed the underlying philosophy at Brennan’s: We Buy Direct So You Buy The Best.

Much has changed through the years, but one thing that will never change is Frank Brennan’s original philosophy of Buying Direct So You Buy the Best. The Brennan’s family personally visits and inspects every farm, orchard, vineyard, microbrewery and cheese factory that we do business with all over the United States and Canada, as well as Australia, Chile and New Zealand

Today the Brennan’s family owns and operates 5 locations: 1 in Monroe, 1 in Brookfield, 1 in Oconomowoc, and 2 in Madison. We also have a warehouse in New Glarus to age, cut and package our cheese.

Meet the Business Owner

Skip B.

Business Owner

Skip Brennan is eager, optimistic and overflowing with infectious, confident energy. The Monroe native and owner of the five-store Brennan’s Market could have given up on his business when he was paralyzed in a bike crash in 2007.

Instead, Brennan, a former marathon runner and long-distance bicyclist, has continued in his role as owner and leader of the Monroe-based company that was founded by his father, Frank Brennan, in 1942.

The company was founded during World War II as a full-service, 8,000-square-foot grocery store on the corner of Highway 69 and 8th Street. A tornado destroyed the business in 1965 but the Brennans adjusted by selling fruits and vegetables from a 12-by-48-foot shed that would emerge as the model of today’s stores.

Today Skip has 5 total stores: University Ave Madison (c.1970), Bluemound Road Brookfield (c. 1988), Watts Road Madison (c. 2004) and School Rd Oconomowoc (c. 2009).
