Normally I get my craft supplies from Hobby Lobby but I decided to check out Ben Franklin Crafts on my lunch break from work one day. I was looking for some yarn to finish a blanket I was working on. While I wasn’t able to find the same yarn that I purchased from Hobby Lobby I was pleasantly surprised at the options available at Ben Franklin! There were several rows of yarn and I ended up buying a new kind and made a scarf from it! It was a bit more expensive but not horrible. I also had been looking for a long time for a 50 pack of crayola colored pencils for a long time and they seemed to be out of stock everywhere(hobby lobby, target, walmart…) I was pleased that Ben Franklin did have the pack I was looking for but they were horribly over priced-almost $ 15 for a 50 pack! I kept checking online and ended up purchasing the colored pencils from Target once they were in stock again. Target was selling them for half the price. I just couldn’t justify spending that much on pencils. Overall, good selection, just a bit over priced.

Having grown up in Oconomowoc, I’ve been a patron of this store ever since I was a kid. Today, I thought I’d go in to buy a few graphic design pens. I had a sealed cup of coffee in one hand from the lovely Stone Creek down the way. Apparently Ben Franklin doesn’t allow any drinks or food inside the store, so upon my entrance an employee angrily followed me, as if I were some hoodlum who had no right to be there. She did not offer to let me keep my coffee at the front register. If she had politely made that suggestion, I wouldn’t have had an issue. But this person literally kicked me out of the store. I honestly walked out feeling a bit degraded, so suffice it to say I’ll never come here again.

Let me count the ways I enjoy my Ben Franklin Craft Store. 1. When I first moved to Oconomowoc, I took a knitting class. Still knitting several years later! 2. The little corner gift shop area! Love it! 3. Last minute kid’s school project supplies. 4. I’ve used the framing shop twice! Satisfied both times. 5. Kids craft presents for holidays and birthdays. 6. One child collects coins and they have coin supplies. 7. Yarn! Still knitting, remember? 8. Yes, I sew, as well. 9. Great selection of greeting cards. 10. When relatives visit town, they always want to check out the Ben Franklin. 11. Holiday decorating supplies 12. Candles. Ummm… I could go on, you know? But you get the idea.

My family has been going to Ben Franklin for many years, but I felt compelled to write a review after such a wonderful experience working with Daun Zimdars, a bridal consultant. I purchased a vintage lantern to use for a card box, and to wanted to personalize it with faux flowers that resembled what we’re using for the wedding. We came in to get some recommendations and ideas. Daun was so helpful! She was able to recreate the look, and it’s perfect!

Ben Franklin Crafts is a wonderland if you need supplies for your crafty endeavors! This is a good-sized store packed with a wide range of supplies: scrapbooking, yarn and needlecrafts, beads, and more. There is a hobby section, a custom framing area, and a country corner packed with a nice variety of gifty items like soup mixes, spice rubs, collectibles, and the like. There are also greeting cards, Wisconsin trinkets, and University of Wisconsin gear. And, if you need a new hobby, you can check out one of their events and classes to get you started. Be sure to check the clearance aisles — there are some good finds there, especially seasonal stuff!

Ben Franklin is so much more than a craft store… but, if it’s crafts you need, you’ll certainly find it here! You can also find a wide variety of greeting cards, fun ribbons/awards for kids, holiday decorations, fabric… even some candies and gourds.

Just a few short stops down from the Chocolate Factory… Ben Franklin Crafts. How could any arts and crafts ‘junkie’ not like this store? I spent a good portion of my babysitting money here growing up. They have everything from Styrofoam shapes, to fabrics, to Americana candles, crafting kits, soaps, and décor. They do custom framing, too. Customer service has always been friendly and helpful. Every summer they used to have the«Maxwell Street Sale» out in the parking lot, and you could always find a lot of good deals during that event. While it is a little bit on the pricey side, they offer a wide selection of supplies that you can’t find in your normal craft store(such as Michaels). Ben Franklin is a true gem in Whitman Park.

Ahh, my torrid love affair with Ben Franklin Crafts. On the one hand, everything there is really pricy.(Why are hobbies so outrageously expensive these days??) On the other hand, they have A TON of great craft supplies. It’s not a huge store, but I don’t get nearly as lost in the aisles there as I do in gigantic Walmart-esque Michael’s. There’s something homey about B.F. that’s kind of charming. So I guess I will continue to go back and buy tons of supplies I don’t need for projects I’ll never get around to starting. *sigh*
