High Country Adventures

Our guide was Harvey and he was fantastic! Would highly recommend doing the upper and middle trip. They provide a safe, fun adventure and excellent lunch!

I cannot say enough about the great time my husband and I had! This was on my bucket list, and Potter certainly didn’t disappoint! He was much more than knowledgeable. this guy knows his stuff! We ended up landing on a huge rock nose up. riding the cavernous portions and holding for minutes. completely underwater at times. all intentional. hubby had been to another trip years ago, and never experienced anything close! Thanks again Potter, you ROCK!!!

The employees here was super friendly and knowledgeable. The journey began with the signing of the waiver, a safety debrief, then you’re off to get the equipment, and finally the bus ride to the starting location.
Our particular guide pointed out cool facts and knew tricks on how to gain momentum for a more fun ride. The rafting was fun, and the duration was just right. There will be an area for swimming so brace yourself.
Parking was pretty plentiful. Remember to look for the Groupon deals since the bf’s group chose this place for that sole reason. And don’t forget to bring a change of clothes as the restrooms and changing facilities were nice, until a wooden stall with no light.

What a great trip! It all started with my Google search for rafting companies on the Ocoee River in Tennessee. High Country showed up. After checking out reviews here, I decided to set up our rafting trip with them. I checked Groupon to see if there were any deals out there and I found one! I called High Country to verify the Groupon and they said they would match the Groupon price right then and there. I liked being able to save the extra step of going through Groupon.
We arrived and got signed in. After our safety class, we headed to the river.
Potter was our guide and he was outstanding. He has a great knowledge of the river and made the trip very enjoyable! 3 of the 5 people in our group had never been rafting before and he made it a great experience.
We will definitely be back! Thanks Potter!

The guides are well trained and very personable. We had «Wolf pack». The trip was a blast. Beautiful weather. We stayed in the cabins and they were exactly as advertised. Rustic and relaxing. Highly recommended!

Amazing! I’ve rafted with them 3 times and I love it every time! The first time we stayed in the cabins they have, which were nice and cozy! The guides are all great and I love that they take pictures the whole trip down the river! You’re sure to have an awesome image! I will be coming back!

I have not tried the other other outfitters in the region and have no reason to. These guys are amazing. They make what is already fun even better. My river trip was run safely but with great humor, enthusiasm, and vigor. Trip, our guide is who you should ask for by name when you make a reservation. You will have a blast and be safe.
I plan on going back many more times as visitors come hang out at my place in Georgia.

Went white water rafting at High Country Adventures yesterday and had a great experience. My friend purchased a trip for 4 on Groupon. The water was beautiful, our guide was Skinny who was entertaining and really knowledgeable about the river. We had a blast; can’t wait to go again and bring more friends. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to have an adventure!

I’ve been down the Ocoee a number of times, but this was my first trip with High Country Adventures. I found them to be well organized, friendly and well versed in how to run this river. I went with a friend, who was taking his first whitewater trip, and he had a blast. Now, we’re planning to go in September with our wives.

As a first time white water rafter I have to say I was sacred. And although, I was scared to go, my raft guide made me feel safe. Our raft guide was Katie and she was great! First off, she never put us in danger and always told us when to paddle. Secondly, I see that people wrote negative reviews on how their raft guide spoke to them and they didn’t like it. You’re raft guide is speaking to you a certain way because they want you to know when they are making a serious call to paddle, get down, etc. The river is no joke and serious injuries can happen if you’re not listening or taking it seriously. All in all I had a blast thanks to our raft guide. Also, the company is great too. Everyone was super friendly and made our trip enjoyable! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to go white water rafting. And if I ever decide to go again I will be going through this place, no question !

High Country was good, except for our tour guide named «Shop Dog.» He was unprofessional, conscending, and yelled constantly during our trip! It was all of our first time going and he almost ruined for us. We would love to go back to white water raft, but will stay away from this rude man.

A different reviewer had a poor experience with «Shop Dog,» and I feel compelled to explain my completely opposite experience. My wife and I went on a tour of the middle Ocoee River on 7÷26÷14 with two other couples. This was my third or fourth time down the river.
Shop Dog was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the river and the area (he’s been a guide for 32 years). He had lots of insight and knowledge about the history of the area and he never once acted in an unprofessional or inappropriate manner whatsoever. He gave us instructions and an explanation of each of the upcoming rapids, and we all had a great time. I found his demeanor to be easily approachable and I would definitely recommend seeking him out as your guide!
The staff High Country were great hosts/​guides, and I highly recommend them!

Rocked it out on the river with Dave and the HC team today! What a great time with fantastic guides and a killer outfitter. I can’t say more about these great people! Two thumbs up!

I was a first time whitewater rafter but thanks to Zoe at HIgh Country Adventures my wife and I had an AWESOME time!!! We were a little intimidated about going down the river, but they gave us an overview of the gear and raft before hand. Also throughout the trip Zoe would tell us ahead of time what we could expect at each rapid.
The High Country Adventures staff was super friendly from the first phone call to make a reservation to the bus driver picking everyone back up. I would highly recommend these guys for your next trip down the Ocoee. Now go already and book your trip, I know I can’t wait to book my next one!

We went here for our 23^rd wedding anniversary and it was a great way to spend the day. Our guide, Benji, was not only funny but very professional and is a wonderful guide. We sat in the back so I could see how much work he was doing to keep us safe and on track. We’ll be back!

Very, very disappointed!
My family and I (a total of 11 people) we super excited to go rafting. So on the day of the trip we drove up to Ocoee, which was a 3 HOUR drive and proceeded to check-​in. Fast forward 10 minutes later, we were informed that the river was closed for the day.
However, another rafting company down the road was still going down the river just fine. High Country Adventures were very unprofessional with how they handled their business AND they could have informed us the morning of BEFORE we had made the 3 HOUR drive. NEVER AGAIN.

I have been rafting on the Middle Ocoee twice now, most recently with High Country Adventures. I had a really great experience with them that was definitely comparable to the other rafting outfitters in the area.
While white water rafting could be a terrifying experience, they are really good at making you feel prepared for the trip and walking you through what to do in situations on the river. After about a 15 minute tutorial you will get a life vest, helmet, and paddle, and board an old school bus. There is then about a 30 minute drive on the bus to the river. Our rafting guide «Wolf Pack» was phenomenal. She was really knowledgeable about the river and made sure that our boat was safe and had a blast during the trip.
For those rafting or doing other High Country Adventures, there are campgrounds on the property. We camped for 2 nights with a group of 12 and had a really pleasant experience. The rates were reasonable, the bathrooms were clean (and even included hot water!!), and our camp site had a picnic table and fire pit.
I definitely recommend the rafting and camping experience at High Country! I will be back!

I love High Country Adventures! My company has been here a couple of times for our summer fun event and each time everyone had a blast! Cheryl and Marie are very helpful when it comes to setting up dates/​times/​food. A huge thank you to them for being so great and easy to work with!
I have also been here on a day trip with my daughter and like everyone else I know, she loved it. HC gives great tutorial on what and what not to do. They are a very knowledgeable and incredibly fun group. I highly recommend HC Adventures for your next summer fun event or just for some good old fashioned family fun!

First time ever whitewater rafting. The orientation was helpful, but I will say. there were some moments when I felt that the staff needed to get a little more «cultured…» YIKES!
I had never really met anyone from Tennessee, so I admit I did have my own internal stereotypes about them… hehhh… Some proved to be true, but oh well!
Instructor (Daniel) for our boat was awesome — he told us what to do and got us working like a well-​oiled machine. Be ready — he is very sarcastic and dry, so if you aren’t prepared, he might catch you off guard.
We took a group of 50 students from around the world, to experience something different in America. Whoever the female guide was — she should have known that we were watching — but we did see and hear her snide comments and gestures.
On our return trip to the office, we heard the guides up in front complaining about how some of their participants couldn’t understand «anything they were saying,» and rolling their eyes with their negative comments. SO these were what lost a star. We will be writing a letter I foresee.
However… the scenery on the river is breath-​taking. Literally. And I am not a nature person. It reminded me of the movies, and the serenity was powerful.
The rapids were fun — be prepared to get thrown out of the raft! haha. But it’s ok — they’ll help you back in!
Amazing adventure and activity — if you haven’t tried whitewater rafting you should definitely try it with these guys (and gals)! They will make it fun and they will get you through the rapids. Next time I’d really like to try a higher level of rapids…
