I’ve been coming to this place prior to the rebuild. The service for breakfast & lunch sandwiches is slow as can be, but not horrible & well worth the wait. The salads are tops, and the people are very friendly.

I have been to this place several times and I have mixed feelings. If you are ordering catering from here it is safe to say that you will enjoy it. My family has ordered catering for numerous events from here and it has always been good! If you are just walking in to pick up a sandwich it generally takes some time. The service is so slow it’s painful! Be careful with the pre-made sandwiches, we picked one up once with spoiled mozzarella in it.

Great egg sandwiches. Yes they cater to regulars but as a non regular that seems nice. Anytime I’m in the area this is a must breakfast stop.

Rude staff. Older employees are even nasty to the young ones, which is unnecessary. If you’re the least bit indecisive or unsure of what you want they look like they want to throw you out. The food is pretty good and it is very clean. Overpriced for sure, but I will pay extra if I know it’s being made in a clean place. I don’t particularly like their macaroni salad and I’m pretty sure the last time I got it it was bad. They have ready made wraps but you can tell they’ve been sitting because they have a bunch of price stickers on them and they can be soggy and mushy. The cashiers can get pretty rude when you want to use a debit card; something I try not to do at places like this, but sometimes it’s all I have with me. Either way, it doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t give someone the silent treatment for using plastic instead of cash. The communal ice bucket for iced coffee also creeps me out. Perhaps you can pre-fill cups with ice and keep them in the cooler, rather than having multiple strangers dig there hands in what looks like a not so gently used container?

Good lunch spot. I come here for the wraps and cold cuts. Boar’s Head honey turkey is regularly on sale for $ 7.99 a pound, can’t beat that. If you go for a wrap, I suggest the one that has fried eggplant cutlets, mozzarella, tomatoes & roasted red peppers. Simple combo but they give you a nice portion of really good mozzarella in the wrap in addition to the veggies which is always appreciated in my book.

Having been a resident of Oceanside for about 20 years, of course this place is pretty standard and almost a landmark. It has obviously been there for so long because the food is great. The staff is extremely nice and I know that they were tested right after Hurricane Sandy. The gas station across the street was one of the few open and Farmer Joel’s was the only place that would open extra early to feed those that waited hours for gas… they opened the deli, fed everyone and they were extremely nice and accommodating during such a stressful time. They have remained a great staff as always… very friendly. The place has a very homelike feel and it makes you comfortable. So on to the food — I highly recommend their deli sandwiches: yes, they are a little pricey but they give you a huge sandwich and everything is always fresh. I also really recommend them for catering. I was shocked at my aunt’s party(she’s a great cook) when I told her that the eggplant rollatini(or maybe it was parm) was amazing and she whispered that it was from Farmer Joel’s. Their ziti was also good. Lastly, though it’s pricey, they do have a nice produce section for those that live in the area. It’s almost like a supermarket/deli. Well stocked, everything is fresh including the catered food — you know they use fresh ingredients.

I am really puzzled why so many rave about this deli because apart from a few items, nothing stands out. The customer service is so slow, OMG, they would not survive in NYC where the workers have to move with a speed of light to handle breakfast and lunch crowds plus stream of deliveries and catering orders. Here, they are barely able to handle a line of 5 people. I am giving them 3 stars due to certain items: 1. Chicken pot pie-so good that my daughter who normally only eats the meat and the crust from a supermarket version, gobbles the whole thing, peas, carrots, it’s a shock. 2. Cole slaw-fair price, 3.99 lb and it’s really fresh. That’s all. The veggies are overpriced and nothing special.

Don’t know how to take orders at all. If you place an order, there will be orders taken later and served before yours. The wait is long and the employees are too slow. They need to get their shit together this is Long Island not Cheyenne, Wyoming. Adiós turtles.

we all know that this place has great food and a good staff. so, this must be an off-day for them. i am disabled with @40 broken bones including broken ankles and knees. caused by a horrific car wreck. wanted to place a special order. the place was busy as usual. waited by the 2nd cashregister. as the gentleman(mike)was waiting on another special-order customer. when that customer was finished; i asked mike if i could place a special order… he replied:“no”, i will wait on the next on line… if, i wasn’t so dinged-up and in pain. i would have waited. but, i decided to leave and purchase my special order from a business that was handicap-friendly. thanks for listening

Been going here for years. Best part about farmer is the friendly staff and fresh food. Food never sits on counter for long!

This place is nothing special. It used to be much better years back, but the food is mediocre at best now. Everything is terribly overpriced and the quality of the food is nothing to write home about. The employees are incredibly rude, almost like you’re putting them out by ordering food. I will never come here again. Do not recommend.

Take out date: July 12, 2014 My mom got some catering here for my sister’s birthday. She ordered eggplant parm & ziti. The eggplant parm was pretty good, cheesy, gooey, saucy enough but not as much sauce as I normally like and flavorful. The ziti was okay, not horrible but not outstanding either. It’s cheaper to cater from Farmer Joel’s than from Iavarone’s(although Iavarone’s is worth the extra bucks and in my opinion is better than Farmer Joel’s. I was not in the store so I can’t review on how the store looks, maybe one day if I stop in I can provide an updated review that’s not based on the catering alone.

This is an updated review. I originally gave Farmer Joel 5 stars but this review is after getting Thanksgiving plates from them. We ordered 3 plates for Thanksgiving with some turkey, mashed potatoes and veggies. I must say, the plates were a very generous size. However, the turkey tastes blunt and instead of blueberry slices of pie they gave us cherry slices of pie. I don’t like cherries so that was very disappointing. In addition it wasn’t real fruit, it was some cherry jelly/jam filling. The dessert being a big turn off and the turkey plates tasting so «meh» made me update my review. They are great for breakfast and sandwiches.

The service is slow and surly. When I went in, there were at least 5 employees working and only 3 customers. Somehow, I still had a difficult time getting service. Also, the lettuce for the chopped salads had those brown, mushy pieces in it. Eww.

The Dean Martin sandwich here makes me salivate. Crusty hero bread, chicken cutlet(or eggplant), fresh cut mozzarella, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinaigrette… it’s a flavor bonanza! I’ve been trying to make it here whenever I’m back in town to savor it. I can remember when Farmer Joel’s was just a dinky little store… it’s all grown up now! Top quality, great service, great place to go. Five stars!

My fav local Deli. From the fresh dishes made daily like Loin of Pork to the Wraps and Hero’s. Not to mention some of the best fresh produce around. This is the place to go.
