History

Established in 2005.

Dr. Chan opened California Coast Dental Arts in March 2005 and has since provided exceptional dental care to Oceanside and surrounding communities’ residents. He has been voted as a San Diego Top Dentist in San Diego Magazine since 2006 until 2015 by his peers and patients. Dr. Chan has also provided the Oceanside Unified School District with over 1,000 free student screenings since 2008.

Dr. Chan and his staff are committed to staying on the forefront of dental technology while providing the needed care and compassion that we all appreciate.

Business Owner

Raised on the island of Guam since the age of three, I enjoyed island living until moving to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California. I graduated in three and a half years with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences in 1996 and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2001.

I established my own practice in Oceanside, California building it almost literally from the ground up in 2005. While building California Coast Dental Arts, I became a part-​time faculty member at USC Dental School teaching restorative techniques to prepare the dental students to work in a clinical environment. Although I enjoyed teaching and explaining the logic behind techniques and procedures to dental students; our triplets, a growing practice and the commute prevented me from continuing.

My philosophy in life is simple: Leave the world a better place than you found it… in my case, one smiling person at a time.

I have had many dentists over the years, and Dr. Chan is my absolute favorite. He really cares. When you 1st go, he gives you an assessment of work he recommends. He doesn’t up-​sell or push unnecessary procedures on you. I am happy to say, in the year and a half I’ve been coming here, I have checked off everything on his list.
They recommended to me to get my teeth clear-​coated, and my insurance doesn’t cover it. The hygienist said I could go to a school and let a student do it for less money, and I admired her honesty. I stuck with Dr. Chan for the work in the end, because he does a great job.
I asked about braces, because my last dentist told me to get them. He even had molds of my mouth taken. Dr. Chan said that because of my age and other factors, that aligning my teeth would take more than braces– it’d actually be a whole thing where they break my jaw and push it back, etc. I opted to just keep my crooked tooth!
And here’s something… I received a check months after a visit, as my insurance covered something I’d initially paid for. Gosh, who does that?!?
I love his humor… Back-​handed compliments are my thing and he dished this one to me, «Your teeth look great! –For your age~»

— I think the office hours are inaccurate for Thursdays. It’s past 2:30 and nobody answered the phone.

I received my work note and I forwarded it to my employer. I sure appreciate you doing that as I’m recovering and need the narcotic pain meds to aid in my recovery. I’m also taking the Motrin and amoxicillin as rx’d.
I gotta tell you for my visit to your office, I really felt like I was family and like a patient who had been going there for years. My family have had many awful experiences with previous dental offices treating us horribly and also going out of business all of sudden. So being treated so quickly and so gently, was such a blessing
So in short, your whole office really made a real painful day really awesome!!!
Dr. Chan you won’t believe how surprised I was when I heard your voicemail when you checked on me and gave me your information so I could call you back if need be. You made my day when you answered my call and helped me!

I know Dr, Chan for many years. He always provided personal attention to all my dental concerns and he does that for all his patients. The only reason I will stop going to Dr. Chan is if I move away from southern CA.
I was lucky I was able to find Dr. Chan many years ago; I always recommend him to my friends and they stay to be his patients because they are also pleased with the service and treatment they receive.

Couldn’t be more pleased. Moved from VA looking for a dentist to replace mine and was scared… so hard to find a great dentist. Not only did I find one, but Dr. Chan far exceeded my expectations. Now both my kids and I see him and we all love him. He just replaced a filling for me and I’m so happy. Not only did his novocaine injections NOT hurt, but he finished in a very timely manner. Just got it done yesterday and today it feels like I never had any dental work done… no pain, no soreness… I’m just ecstatic. He is a great dentist, so friendly and easy to talk too as well. His whole office staff is wonderful, efficient, friendly… this place is the greatest !! The facility is spacious, open and very clean. I HIGHLY recommend them. Just found out I’m moving to San Diego and am thrilled to find out he has an office in La Jolla so we can all keep going to him there too. YAY !!! Can’t say enough good things about them.

By far the best dentist experience I’ve ever had! dr. Chan and his staff were extremely nice and very professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I know I had some receding gum line issues and they gave me a reasonable quotes on some fillers, unlike the previous dentist I was at before that suggested a very expensive and painful gum surgery. The dental hygienist took some of my x-​rays and I am very sensitive with my gag reflex, so when she took the x-​rays she was very quick and very sensitive to the fact I was just comforted by it. By far the best service I’ve ever had by any dentist anywhere. I would give this dentist 10 stars if I could. Oh and an added bonus they have a TV on the ceiling playing aquatic visuals which were extremely entertaining while getting my teeth cleaned. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

For anyone looking for a dentist, just make your appointment now. That is how amazing Dr. Chan is! My daughter (5 years old) and myself had appointments with Dr. Chan in Oceanside. We both had X-​rays done and everything in the office is state of the art. The staff is very friendly, the office is very clean, and kid friendly. Dr. Chan is very thorough and has excellent bedside manner. My daughter felt comfortable and explained everything to her during her appointment. When it was my turn, he educated me on reading my X-​rays. We are excited to have him as our dentist. We can’t wait for our next 6 month appointment. He accepts Metlife (Tricare dental program).

I love this place… I love going to the dentist now hahaha.
The hygienist, front office, and dental assistant as well as Dr. Chan make the best team. Never do I feel uncomfortable, I always feel at ease when I come here and it has been my 3rd visit to his office. I am greeted pleasantly from the moment I walk into the door, while I’m sitting on the chair, till the moment I pay and exit the building. They really know how to provide care in this place! Every penny is worth it, and you will feel at ease having Dr. Chan and his staff taking care of your teeth! I recommend this place time and time again. I was referred here and having Dr. Chan as a primary dentist is one of the best decisions I made. The décor is super cute too! it has the beach theme going which makes the experience cozier and funner, also watching movies while getting work done on your pearly whites is awesome too!
He has a location in La Jolla as well as Oceanside! Which is convenient!

Dr. Chan and his staff are by far the best dental team I have ever been seen by.
My whole family goes to him, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to others. From the comfortable lobby, well stocked current magazines, the dental chairs with video screens on the ceiling to the hot wash cloth to wipe your face at the end of the visit… its all good. He even follows up all my visits with a call to my house at the end of the day, checking on my status. I am impressed with his proficiency as a dentist, he has a way to numb me up that is pain free. he also will provide another shot to neutralize the pain medication. His office is conveniently located right off the 5 in Oceanside.

Our 2-​year-​old fell and injured her front teeth and mouth. After spending the previous night in the emergency room, we went to see Dr. Chan first thing in the morning. This was our first visit to the dentist since we had children. Dr. Chan immediately set us at ease. Dr. Chan and his staff were exceptional in every way. They were accommodating to our group of four, welcoming, great with our daughter and very affordable. He took x-​rays, examined her injury and provided us detailed and helpful instructions on her care. I was impressed by his straight-​forward and logical approach to dental care; no unnecessary treatments or charges. The office staff were super-​friendly. I was a patient of Dr Chan’s about seven years ago. When I first went to him my mouth was a complete mess. He really saved me. He did the most amazing work and since then I haven’t had any cavities. The only reason I don’t go to him anymore is because I moved back to New England. I will tell you that my last year in California I did drive all the way from Costa Mesa to Oceanside just to have him save my tooth. He is by far one of the very few dentists I trust.
Having been a dental assistant in the past I know his work is good. He takes pride and care in all he does for his patients. He really did all he could to help me get my mouth in order in a timely fashion. It’s been seven years and his work is still holding up strong. I simply can not praise his dentistry enough.

Dr. Chan is in all sincerity the best dentist I have ever been to and have been going to him for the past approximately 10 years. He was my general dentist when he was located in San Juan Capistrano, and now my entire family and I travel from Orange County to Oceanside for ALL of our dental needs. He is thoughtful, caring, and conservative when it comes to all types of dental restorations. His staff is absolutely amazing and truly are team players, I am overly impressed by all of them. I don’t have a tendency to be scared of dental procedures, but I definitely have family members who are, and he is the only dentist that I have met that has the ability to put them at ease, he simply has one of the best bed side manners I have ever witnessed and his dental work compares to none. Honestly, you would be a moron not to see Dr. Chan and his staff. #justsaying.

I looove Dr. Chan and his staff. And, I really mean it when I say it because the dentist is definitely one of my least favorite places to visit. Dr. Chan and his friendly staff make it more than bearable. They are very attentive. I never have to wait to be seen, the staff always greets me with a warm welcome and they even send birthday and holiday cards. It doesn’t get any better than this for a dentist’s office!
