Great first experience Riding a buggie in the sand dunes. This place was a great choice! Everyone was super friendly especially Sarah and Jeff. We will definitely recommend this place and if we return, we’ll be sure to visit again.

Great service, great rentals, all around fun under the sun by the beach in the sand dunes!!!

We came on Memorial Day weekend, and it was a nightmare. We called in and reserved four buggies. We were told that we were to show up on the beach (since we were camping) fifteen minutes early to get our vehicles, helmets, etc.
When we got to the center, it was a madhouse. We waited in line for maybe 20 minutes before being told that we had to go to the actual storefront outside the park. This was extremely upsetting, because no one told us this previously and only instructed us to meet on the sand.
We had to take a «shuttle» outside. This took FOREVER. Once we were done with this, we walked up to the storefront, and there were multiple lines inside. We waited there for what seemed like forever. Then, we had to watch instructional videos that made us want to die. They were over 20 minutes in length, but they literally felt like five years. We were all irritated and sleepy by the time they finished.
Then, we had to go back to the pick-​up stop and wait for the shuttle to bring us back. Once back, we had to wait in line again, get our helmets, then wait for instructions, then wait for vehicles. I guess they ran out of vehicles. One guy behind the desk was telling his coworker that he didn’t know where they were all coming from, and that the owner must have bought some out from somewhere else to ship them in that day. Since we had already made a reservation, they should have served us first, instead of making more deals.
We waited for another eternity to get our buggies. It got to the point where we just wanted to leave. It had already been HOURS since we started this venture, and we still hadn’t made that much progress. Finally, someone in our group made a fuss, and we were given our bikes.
We took off and entered the dunes. We were having a good time, but one of the bikes decided to stall. Then it stalled again. And again. And again. And we couldn’t get it to start. It was a nightmare. We returned to our camp and called the guys to come get it. They couldn’t find us, and by the time they did, the time on our rentals was up, and we had to return all four.
They did give out complimentary rentals for next time. That’s why I didn’t give 1 star. Plus, it was a busy weekend, so they were swamped. Still, it was a terrible experience. If we go back and use the voucher, on a non-​holiday weekend, of course, I’ll update the review with more positive comments (if so warranted).

Review was deleted because I raged and posted the same review on the other sun buggy location as well, I deserved that, I shouldn’t be posting twice. However I did buy an ATV rental for this location.
Was in Pismo Beach, thought this would be a fun idea. Ended up walking into the shop with my friend, but she had doubts because she was feeling really sick. So therefore, they were able to credit us, but that was our last day in Pismo Beach, so we drove 4.5 hours back home.
I spoke with the manager regarding whether or not I could get a refund because I literally do not plan on coming back to specifically Pismo Beach just to use a ATV ride credit, that’s extremely silly because I am 5 hours away. I didn’t even want all of my money back, I was just like can you maybe just refund me half, because I understand that I cancelled. So literally Sun Buggie still gets 60 dollars as a donation. Right now they are receiving double that for me not using their services whatsoever. This was special circumstance that I was not able to go and had to cancel, but the manager was just not having it all. I asked him a few questions, and then he literally HUNG UP the phone on me. Like you are the manager of this business and you are hanging up on your customers? That is incredibly rude and unprofessional. So basically they have taken my money because they don’t offer refunds regardless of personal life events that happen.
Very disappointed with the customer service of the manager of Sun Buggie & ATV Fun Rentals. The staff at their shop was actually really caring and nice, so it’s surprising to me that the manager would at that way.

Pretty fun!!! It was our first time at the dunes so we decided to try playing with the dune buggies.
The guy JEFFFFF at the store was pretty nice and informative. He helped us out and got us excited for our new excursion.
It really takes some practice to get used to driving around on the dunes. We got stuck a few times but they did not hesitate to get us out of a sandy situation.
Overall it was fun! Next time I want to come and ride the ATV’s!

Awesome customer service, great price for 2 hour of fun in the sun at pismo beach, everyone bring your friends and family down for a ride of your life.

I came here for my boyfriend’s bday. We’ve always wanted to go atving since he started at cal poly but we just never got around to doing it. Prior to choosing an atv place to rent from I did a lot of research at each of the places and sun buggy definitely had the best deals. They have a ton of deals on their website and most of them are for the morning.
They let you rent gear from them and even buy some like gloves, bandanas, shirts, etc. I got the 300 cc Honda and it was a good choice. It was fully automatic, 4 wheel drive so I never got stuck in the dunes once. It was $ 78 not including gas fees. It’s also pretty fast. I like how the rentals came with a helmet and goggles which you definitely need.
Sunbuggy shows a 17 minute informational and safety video before you go out to the beach. Then this cool looking tram drives you on the beach to the dunes. The tram ride was pretty enjoyable and free. We weren’t stuck waiting for it either. Your atvs and buggies are waiting for you on the beach near the dunes. The dunes itself are pretty damn scary and I definitely wasn’t comfortable enough to go down them. They go as high as 60 – 100 ft. It was scary too because literally when we got there someone got injured on their atv and they had to get an emergency team to get him. Be safe! Only do what you’re capable of doing and comfortable doing!
Overall, excellent service with sunbuggy and no problems. I’ll be back!

Stay far away from these crooks! No refunds even when they overbook and ask you to wait 2 – 3 hours but reservations told you no wait… What kind of company operates like this? Take your money for services not rendered. You guys should be in jail for this scam! Awful customer service and the people in the front of operations are a joke and talk shit about the owner. Incompetent all the way around. Thanks for shitty service. I’ll never be back to this trash can.

Well, we rented s 6 seater for family and it broke down 3 times. Over heated and 2 broken drive belts. We spent more time seating then driving the dunes. The staff was nice but this buggy should not be in service.
I will say this the management did say they will refund our money so they did do the right thing.
I will give this another try but it will be on a weekday and in a 1 seat buggy OR ATV.

They really have the potential to get a 5 star review. The only thing missing was proper management and dependable machines.
The experience itself was great. But that all depends on how much you like to go off-​road riding. The issue I had was that they overbooked our party to the point of where we had to wait for 2 hours until we finally got on our ATVs. And after all that, one of our ATVs were broken where it would turn off every time you start going fast. The reason they still got 3 star review from me is because the staff was absolutely friendly and helpful.
Just to inform everyone who decides to come here when it’s busy, you don’t really have a choice of an automatic or a manual ATV. First come first serve kind of deal. We had a group of 10 who booked for 2 hours and each person paid $ 69 after everything.
Other than that, the only complaint is that I wish instead of giving us a free hour for the overbooked wait time, I asked if we could be partially reimbursed. Unfortunately that couldn’t accommodate other than with store credit.

This place is amazing!!! We rented the Cinco buggy to enjoy with the family! This was a great birthday surprise for my husband! The staff is great and very friendly, shout out to Heather and Dustin!!! The tram driver is great and funny too! Thank you for an amazing adventure!!!

This was my first time in an off road dune buggy and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I tend to fall on the more daring side of the adventure continuum while some of the other riders in the family are far more cautious. Regardless, we were all novices at the sand dune experience and it turned out to be a blast. We had multiple rentals and discovered that the difference between the 2 seat and the 4 seat configuration was noticeable. Not surprisingly, the smaller 2 seater is more maneuverable. The number one most important rule is to «not get stuck in the sand» … easier said then done. If you took the ride very cautiously it could be avoided, however there is a learning curve — and you are there to experience some thrills so be prepared for a few times where you have to free your buggy from the sand.
Once you get the general hang of it, the fun really kicks in. The degree of difficulty is entirely up to the driver — so rider beware. Overall this can be a tremendously fun experience and it will be as simple or thrilling as you make it. Most of our group was ready to call it a day after 3 hours, but some of us pressed and pushed on further. The rental company was a non-​factor. You need to fill out basic paper work, waivers, watch a safety video and so forth, but nothing exceptional to report on here. My teenage daughters were only in tears once or twice because of the intensity of the jumps and difficult landings.

Sun Buggie has a ton of options of sand duning vehicles, great prices, and a convenient Oceano Beach location. They also have a large shuttle to take you from the beginning of the beach entrance all the way to their site with the ATVs, etc.
We came on a day that just so happened to be spring break for the surrounding colleges. It was a madhouse in their office. The woman at the front desk was still SUPER accommodating amongst the flurry of people trying to get checked in for their rentals. She knew how to handle the pressure of all of the people.
The staff on the beach, however, were not as friendly. The people in the trailer were not welcoming, but I get it, they were busy. On a slow day, maybe they would be more friendly. The men who helped us with instructions once we are on the ATVs, though were awesome. I mean, cracking jokes, made learning how to operate the ATVs fun. It made the experience great.
Other than that, it was a great time. We had been to Pismo/​Oceano dunes before, but this was the first time we had used Sun Buggie. We’ll most likely be back and use them again.

So much fun! I think besides the obvious sightseeing when visiting Pismo Beach, ATVing has to be the other to-​do item on your list, and Sun Buggie is the perfect place to do it! Make sure to take advantage of their rental specials, as well as the one free t-​shirt [per group] with your Unilocal check-​in. Staff was friendly.
We reserved ATVs in advance (by 5pm the of the previous night is the latest) for 2-​hour rides on Honda 250s from 9−11am for only $ 49. Fuel and gear is included. You have to come a little earlier at 8:15am to check-​in and get placed in a room to watch the instructional video. The video was the only negative of the whole experience because it included instructional pieces for both the buggies and the ATVs. If we’re renting ATVs, we have to sit through the whole monotonous buggy instructional video, which is irrelevant to us. I would recommend they split up the videos in the future for efficiency.
After you watch the video, a tram takes you out to where all the actual ATVs are parked, where you get your helmet/​head sock and a guy with an endless amount of dad jokes teaches you the controls of your vehicle. Then you ride off into the sunset to the designated course (be sure to look at your map). Remember to stay ~15mph or under when ATVing along the beach, stay off wet sand, and know what’s on the other side of the peak you’re speeding towards… or you may end up faceplanting!

If you want to experience fun while at Pismo and want to hit up the dunes, pay a visit to Sunbuggy. We rented a 4 seater dune buggy for an hour and a half. It was for me, husband and 8 yr old son. Our experience from the beginning was seamless and smooth. Online booking, then you receive an email confirmation. Follow the instructions on your email– arrive 45 – 1 Hr early. This allows check in, filling out paperwork, watch a safety video, and shuttle to the beach. Our reservation was at noon and we arrived around 10:30 am. A bit early, but we were able to get to the beach by 11:30. They fitted us for helmets and took the time to explain important info on the vehicle.
Once we were on our way, we were familiar with rules and the area. We had spent time the day prior on atv’s there. (For the record, we did not rent atv’s from Sunbuggy only reason being is that they do not have atv’s for kids under 10 and we have an 8 yr old). This rental of the dune buggy was pretty cool. Sand sand sand is the common denominator here. You can not be worried about sand in your shoes, hair, face, etc. being on a dune buggy, there is sand everywhere! Try to wear the mask or bandana. Very high chance will catch some sand in your mouth.
Since our rental was around noon, (weather was great!!!) there was a lot of traffic out in the dunes. We were much careful having a bigger vehicle. Gotta watch out for other riders!
I definitely recommend Sunbuggy. The staff is friendly (from check in to shuttle to instructors)…they answer whatever questions you have. I would rent them from again for sure!

Had a great time here. I was staying at our timeshare right across the street from the shop. A friend of mine & his lady came to pismo to join us on a trip out to the dunes. We both rented a prowler xp each. You do have to watch a driving/​safety video before the rental is allowed. We got the 2hr time slot. It was a lil pricey but we did enjoy it. I got a free shirt for checking in on Unilocal.
We took the free tram they offer out to the rental pickup area near the dunes. Once you get to the rental pickup area they give you helmets & goggles. They show you how to operate the rental and give you some pointers of areas to stay clear of. Then your off to go have a blast. Do your best to stay clear off ruts/​holes you can get stuck in. My friend got stuck in the first ten minutes, it took us both to lift & move his prowler a 180° to get him out. Not fun. Make sure you keep all your belongings you dont want lost in a good place like deep in your pockets or bag cause if you drop something out there it’s gone. I do wish the prowler was a lil faster, overall though had a good time & the 2hrs did not go by too fast. I would recommend a bandanna to cover your nose & mouth unless you like sand in your mouth & nose after, & don’t wear shorts. Planning to go again.

One of the best summer activity is riding an ATV and certainly one must choose a good rental place. Without a doubt, ‘Sun Buggie & ATV Fun Rentals’ provided an excellent service. They pay greater attention to people’s safety. My husband found about this place through TripAdvisor, they seems to have remarkable reviews there as well.
BOOKING & CHECK-​IN
We made our reservation over phone just a day before, for a Saturday afternoon 2 hour slot and had booked 300cc ATV each. Payment should be made while making the reservation.

— Be at the venue 45 mins before the start time
— Show your photo ID & credit card (the one used for the payment)
— Waiver form to be filled in at the venue
Once you’re done with the above, you’l be showed couple of short videos (a must-​watch), providing useful ATV riding & handling information.
STAFF
Staff at the check-​in venue was helpful. Rest of the staff at the ATV Dune site were very friendly and frank. They carefully addressed ATV riding Do’s & Don’ts. Gave clear instructions on how to ride an ATV and on riding directions.
SERVICE
Shuttle service, from the beach until ATV riding site, was quick. It’s an open-​air trailer, quite enjoyable to ride along the shoreline. After reaching the site, get your helmet & choose your ATV vehicle. As I’ve mentioned earlier, initially, we booked for a 300cc ATV but surprisingly, our ATVs were upgraded to 350cc due to some last minute change request by the company. I must say the upgrade worked out very well. My hubby & self, both are activity enthusiasts and so, din’t bother much about the cc increase and I, being a first timer, din’t find it hard at all. Learn the instructions from the staff and get your direction map. Now, you are good to start your ride.
QUICK TIPS
— To all the first timers, do not worry & don’t give up. Keep going & am sure you’l gain confidence as you continue to ride
— Water packs as you’l feel thirsty while riding
— Good goggles and fully covered clothes to avoid getting tanned (it will be super hot & sunny during noons)
— Pause and take photos & videos of your fun ride. Don’t miss to take beautiful ocean view shots from the sand dune
— Pot-​a-​potty is available in the middle of the dunes
CAUTION TIP
It is very normal to get stuck in the dunes, do not panic. Stop the vehicle immediately, pull it back with the help of another person. Do not continue raising the throttle, if otherwise, the wheels gets inside the sand which becomes difficult to get the vehicle out.
OVERALL
Had a fun-​filled-​amazing ride. I was proud to reach the finishing point as it seems like many first timers find it difficult to complete.
I highly recommend Sun buggie and will surely use their service next time when I visit Pismo Beach.
