Nagle’s Apothecary Cafe

Came here for pleasant Sunday breakfast. Great flavors filled my plate. Quaint and quite lovely inside. Very cool history and our waiter was wonderful.

I met a friend of mine here this past Wednesday. This was my first time here at Nagles. I had one of THE BEST TURKEY CLUB sandwiches I’ve ever had. The service, staff, and environment were all outstanding. A very «at home» feel there, honestly! Sadly on my part that this was the first time I visited Nagle’s. Should have tried this spot sooner. I’ve been visiting family and friends in Ocean Grove since I was a child in the mid 60’s. Riding the «Beltline» for .15 cents, walking in and out once the chains were up, shirts on on Sunday’s, etc. And yes, I still go to the park to see Santa on Christmas eve!

I cannot review the food or ice cream, second time here and it’s off season and I cannot believe how slow the service is. I’ve left each time just waiting for someone to come by. Maybe most tourists will tolerate this, but I have no patience. No disrespect to the poor adolescents making their pittance, but shame on the management for either not having enough help, or poorly teaching them. I won’t try a third time.

My friend took us to have ice cream. Since it was around 4pm, we decided to also eat there. So we went inside and sat at the counter. Great look and décor. The menu is large. They offer from gyros to fried chicken to even fish and chips. A variety of options, which I loved. I was unsure of whether to get the fish sandwich or the chicken caesar wrap. The only determining factor was what kind of fish. Once the waitress said cod fish, I was sold. I ordered the fish sandwich. Wow was it a sight looked very appetizing. However, when I bit into the sandwich I found the fried fish to be super oily, the batter soaked up a lot of oil. So I just had the cod without the fried batter without the bread which was nice and toasted btw and the onions & tomatoes. The fish was fresh. I asked for lemons and I was set with the tartar sauce. The sandwich came with fries and they were delicious just on its own. This did not deter me from having ice cream. After seeing my friends order a sundae, my friend and I shared a banana sundae with pistacchio almond, blueberry, and moose tracks. Omg was it delicious. Aside from the whip cream and cherries, you get 3 toppings. Omg score more is better. We added hot fudge, chopped peanuts and marshmellow. Amazing sundae and huge. So huge we couldnt finish it. Half way done. You have to go and have the ice cream. There is a line outside but it is well worth it.

Original pharmacy from 100 years ago – Nostalgic décor, friendly unpretentious service and delicious food. Their homemade sliced deli ham made for one of the best club sandwiches we’ve ever had. Every entrée the five of us ordered was very good, but French fries were an up charge, and only just «okay.» Large ice cream menu with banana splits and sundaes served in ½ gallon sized parfait dishes!!! Comfortable setting, nice service, great food — 5 stars.

The ice cream is NOT home made so I was angry to find out that I was being deceived with the pretense that it was. Ocean grove seems to lack any legitimate gourmet options and this place reaffirms that belief unfortunately
