Specialties
United Methodist Communities at The Shores, a retirement home and assisted living community, benefits from the seaside ambiance of Ocean City, New Jersey – America’s Greatest Family Resort. It offers a Music Pier, Aquatic Center, golf course, private airport, beach, bay, boardwalk, marinas, fishing, and lovely downtown complete with shops and restaurants. The community was completely rebuilt and renovated in 2006 and has newly designed beautiful interiors, two dining rooms, bistro, library, customized fitness programs, exercise room, porches and balconies, town hall, music room, atrium, courtyards, gift shop, and chapel.
United Methodist Communities’ aging-in-place approach to senior care also has advantages. This less restrictive caregiving model does not require a resident to move from an apartment to secure support, even as needs change. Additionally, the continuum of care permits residents to have all of their health needs fulfilled at The Shores.
History
Established in 1907.
In 1907, a committee of women appointed by the New Brunswick District Preachers corresponded with pastors and members of the Methodist Episcopal churches of Monmouth County about the importance of establishing a home for the aged. In response to this need, a single home at 63 Clark Avenue in Ocean Grove was purchased and what became the United Methodist Communities was founded.
The mission of United Methodist Communities has been essentially unchanged since its inception at the beginning of the 20th century and has roots in even earlier developments at establishments that are now part of the organization.
In April 2016, United Methodist Homes of New Jersey changed its name to United Methodist Communities, with the tagline, Abundant Life for Seniors.
Today, United Methodist Communities has 1,400 residents, over 1,000 employees and more than 100 years of compassionate care to seniors in New Jersey.
