Francis Scott Key Family Resort

We came for our annual winter trip to OC. Staff was very polite and accommodating about us wanting to stay in the Florida building (where the pool is located). Bathroom could be updated but the rooms were clean. Beds have comfortable tempurpedic/​memory foam mattresses. The diner was closed for the season. Pool was fun for the kids (and adults!), we recommend goggles though because after the first night their eyes were burning. This is our 4^th year coming and we will be back next year.

Very friendly staff and clean. Rooms comfortable and the beds were great. We are staying here in February so I can’t say anything about the outside amenities but the indoor water park is nice and clean. It is very comfortable and the kids loved it.

Love this place! Came here to celebrate my son’s birthday and as always… we had a great time! The staff are always friendly (with the exception of ONE person who was at the front desk). The lifeguards in the indoor pool area are great! They are always interacting with the kids while also enforcing the safety rules. Rooms are clean and sufficient. We love the playground, golf course, and basketball court. My son is just a fun loving kid so for all of these activities to be in one place… just really works out great for us.

While this is not your typical 5 star Ritz or other hotel for the rich and famous, if you are looking for a great place for a family vacation then this is the place.
They have 3 pools, one inside and 2 outside all geared towards the kids. The Pirate Sprayground is more for the younger kids with a pirate ship they can climb around on and sprinkler for them to run through. The kids have a blast running around and when they are tired they can even stop for a snow cone.
Shipwreck Cove is the other outside pool and is good for kids off all ages, especially at night. The spinklers light up and there is even a hot tub for the adults.
The indoor pool is in the back of the complex and is a great place to spend the day. The kids along with mom and dad can go for a swim. There is a water slide, floats for the kids to play on, a volleyball court and yes another hot tub. They even stop every two hours and make you take a 10 minute break. Also they are constantly check the quality of the water.
Everyone from the front desk staff, housekeeping, and the lifeguards are very pleasant and helpful when needed.
Plus the best part was the shuttle service to the boardwalk. They are constantly going back and forth even if you are the only group aboard. The hotel is about a mile from the boardwalk so if you want to drive it isn’t bad either.
We will definitely be back, hopefully with more family members and would recommend to anyone!

Sept 2015 Update: After speaking with the owner of the resort, Annmarie Dickerson, our family is very pleased to inform everyone that she is a stand up lady who tries hard to make wrongs right. We will be returning to Francis Scott Key Resort in Aug of 2016 to have a wonderful family vacation. We look forward to making our time there a great one!
This year was completely horrible; the fact that the resort was unwilling to accommodate the needs of an elderly and disabled patron was quite disheartening. Even though they «make a note in your reservation» to make adjustments and I asked for a room on the 1^st floor this accommodation was overlooked and not taken seriously. When I checked in, I was told by Becky, that there was nothing they could do other than call the Comfort Inn or give us a full refund, and that there are people who book in October to get rooms of their choice. Another front desk attendant said they couldn’t possibly inconvenience someone who was staying 3 days, well they inconvenienced us, and we stayed 7 days not to mention the reservation was fully paid for in advance when I booked it in March. If it was not for the fact that my family didn’t want to ruin a vacation which had been planned for months I would have opted to take the refund and not stay at the resort at all. The room’s floor was disgustingly dirty and left our feet black, the food was subpar and over-​priced, also it is completely stupid that the gift card can’t be used at the pool chicken and rib shack, which is where most people spend their time if not in the indoor pool. The only things that were good about the stay were our room service person, she was great, and the my daughter’s love for the pool which was not a great improvement from the change, there should have been a deeper area like the previous pool had for people who can swim. The new setup is geared towards getting the parents inebriated while racist lifeguards pick and choose which «color» children to enforce rules upon. Several times we witnessed the lifeguards disregard the rule of no children in the hot tub until little black children decided to get in, and then the lifeguard fully enforced this rule even when the children’s parents were with them. I am saddened by all of this because of the convenience of the resort to Assateaque Island and the multiple pools. We’d planned to make this an annual trip, but certainly we will not be back to FSK ever again!

Very well worth the stay. Amenities on site give it the perfect family atmosphere, 3 on site pools for all ages, mini golf course, picnic areas, basketball/​volleyball courts, shuttle service to Boardwalk just to name a few things. I would recommended staying here instead of overpaying jut because your on Boardwalk or short distance to beach which isn’t bad but not very family orientated or friendly. Only issue I have the dated room décor can be updated but wasn’t in room much to care

We are returning guests and there is no other place we rather stay then at FSK. We feel like family here, everyone is so nice and there is something for everyone here. I’ve been coming to Ocean City for 35 years and we used to stay on the boardwalk let me tell you I don’t miss staying on the boardwalk. We LOVE it here! The room was great and always smelled fresh, the staff is friendly and the food and drinks at the tiki bar was awesome btw the bartender is awesome & she makes the best sangria in OC. We spent A LOT of time being shipwrecked. The kids never wanted to leave the resort there was always something for them to do here. Shipwreck Cove is sooo much fun :) We will see you next year if not sooner FSK!

My husband, our 3 year old, and I had a great time at FSK! Our favorite thing to do was spend time at the pool together! It was warm, clean and enjoyable. They have a poolside bar and lunch service and ice cream, as well as free mini golf and water/​spray kid’s section. Our son loved the indoor kiddie area with the slide too. There is also a third water area with a smaller
Pirate ship with slides and spray features. It was all perfect for him. Our room was clean and neat. We had two double beds, a great size mini fridge and a microwave too. I will make two critiques, 1) the bathroom was not impressive but it didn’t bother us. 2) the walls are on the thin side, so guests being loud at 10pm annoyed me while I was trying to fall asleep and then the early 7am family on our other side woke me up too… But I totally figured that would happen considering we are all families staying here. It’s not a five star hotel, we knew this and never thought it was going to be, so we were very happy and would come back! FSK does a great job keeping the area clean and you can tell they aim to please their guests. I look forward to coming back next summer.

Very nice place to stay with kids. Great family atmosphere. Reasonably priced. They have an indoor pool/​semi-​water park for rainy days.

After hours of online research, I found the Francis Scott Key resort. It wasn’t right on the beach, but only 5 minutes away. The price was spectacular and this place was PHENOMENAL. You really get your bang for your buck here. The grounds were awesome. There were two pirate pools, mini golf, and indoor pool, volleyball, nightly movie screening, and playgrounds all for free. Then a kick but bar and hot tub for adults. Our room was just regular. Not great, not bad; but it worked to sleep in. These grounds though floored me. Check out the pictures. The boardwalk in Ocean City is so expensive with kids so this place was a godsend and included in the price.

Resort? Really? Foolishly I allowed myself to be swayed by all the glowing reviews on Unilocal and decided to give this «family resort» style MOTEL a try. I realized upon booking not to expect a true resort experience as this is a motel. However, they do bill themselves as being a step above your average motel experience. I decided to set aside my motel bias (never before having stayed at a motel) and give this place a chance. Big mistake. I give it one star because upon check-​in my fam and I were pleasantly greeted by the front desk agent. I thought to myself «well perhaps this won’t be so bad.» Boy was I wrong! As I’m typing this review I can hear the guests next door, their television show, and every cackle that comes out of their mouths! While there are deadbolts on the door, I don’t feel safe as the doors themselves seem quite flimsy, and there are some pretty unsavory characters roaming around. Upon entering our room we were meet with a very strange combination of smells, that of disinfectant and mustiness. The dated décor of the room was enough to make me cringe upon entering our room. The bathroom has a small hole in the wall, mildew around the faucet and a urine colored yellow paint job. Overall it just looks and feels dirty. Yes, the indoor pool is great for kids, but aside from that this place is so depressing. It’s so bad that I’m checking out early and don’t even care that I will be losing money per the non-​refundable policy. This will be the first and last time I stay at this place. Lesson learned: a motel is a motel is a motel!!! Gross.

I book me, my husband and my 1 year old for the holiday weekend here, we check in to a freezing cold room we called down to the front desk and they send maintenance up, they did something to the heater and said the heat will be up shortly, needless to say I was happy Being that my baby already has a little cold. 30 min later I get a call from someone saying sorry but the room you have doesn’t have heat doing this time can we bring you a blanket :(not sure what the blanket will do when my baby gets out the bath or just wants to walk around the room. Iam completely unhappy and this has ruined my entire weekend know that I have to come back to a cold room for the next 3 nights is depressing. I will never recommend this place I wish –1 was an option

I’m giving FSK 5 stars and I will tell you why.
It’s not an actual 5 Star /​5 Diamond resort. It’s more like a 2.5 star motel. But …
I first discovered the FSK Motel approximately 25 years ago when a friend recommended it. They have always provided clean, family-​friendly accommodations at a very reasonable price.
The rooms are clean. The facilities are clean.
Over the years they’ve just added and added. Recently they added a small water park for the kids. (They actually have one indoor and one outdoor water park for the little ones.)
They have a pool with a bar. They have miniature golf. They have BBQs that you can use. They provide a free shuttle to the Inlet area every 30 minutes or so during the summer.
A few years ago they added the Route 50 Diner. It looks like something straight out of the movie Grease. 1950s style. Breakfast is served all day. Great food. Great service. Great prices.
This trip we’re staying on the main strip but we had to visit the Route 50 Diner for some delicious pancakes & eggs — and the most amazing homemade cinnamon and powdered sugar donuts!
If you are traveling to Ocean City, Maryland with your children and you want a very clean, safe, comfortable motel at a reasonable price I highly recommend the Francis Scott Key.
Be sure to visit the diner and try the donuts!!! :-)

We had agreat time here! We stayed in an end room with two beds and a pull out couch which was perfect for our family with 2 boys ages 3 and 6. The mini fridge and microwave made it easy to keep lunch breakfast and snack options in the room. We swam in the pool multiple times a day. We borrowed DVDs to watch in the room for downtime– they had a ton to choose from! They had bingo and movie nights for the kids. We drove down the street and had fabulous seafood for dinner. My only complaint would be about the intense chlorine smell at the pool. As the day went on it got stronger as they had to shock the pool several times due to accidents. This was winter so they couldn’t open any windows to ventilate. My only thought would be to use large fans to circulate the air out but that would probably affect the temp. It was really warm and comfy. My son left his blanket in the room and when we realized it and called they mailed it back to us! We will be back next year. Great winter getaway!

Have only been here a few hours and I can already say this is a really nice place to be. The staff is super friendly and respectful and the price is not that crazy at all. I had an issue with the door to my room when I first got here so maintenence had to be called and even with that the maintenence guy showed up super fast and fixed the problem in no time which is what you want if you have a problem. They have an indoor pool as well as a jacuzzi so there are plenty of ways to relax when here. Not to mention the area and beautiful view you have here. Some come check it out you won’t be disappointed. If I ever have to come back to the area I will absolutely come back here because you really can’t beat a place like this.

Good room here. TV works & roof doesn’t leak. HAHa Using this room just for the night but the price & accommodations work for the #8 Hotel in OC. Sea Duck hunting tomorrow out of the local commercial fishing marina down from this room. Worth it for this location! Crab Alley was delish

Great family place to visit!!! We enjoy staying here in both the winter and summer!

The FSK Resort was a recommended place to stay during our weekend visit to Ocean City, Md. Unilocalers also gave it positve reviews which made the decision to give it a chance easier. Though not in a true sense a «resort», there’s nothing negative to write about other than it’s mainly for families with young children. Teenagers will need to settle to playing basketball or beach volleyball if some of their time is spent at the motel (I would suggest taking the teens to the beach/​boardwalk, arcade, amusement park or ride the go karts).
The best FSK recreation amenity is the indoor water park which is a decent size for kids (teenagers will be tempted to jump in and play). The nightly kids movie (showing kids movies like Frozen) with free popcorn is also a nice treat.
Overall, the three day/​two night stay was OK. The rooms are dated but the next door/​outside noise level was at a minimum (didn’t lose any sleep). The small bathroom is clean but needs to be renovated. The other guests were friendly and polite.
I would rate FSK with the following:
1. One star for the free shuttle to/​from the beach/​boardwalk. The drivers were very nice and told us about the «$ 3 ride all day» city bus service. Saved me the hassles of driving in traffic and looking/​paying for parking spots.
2. One star for the convenience of being on the main road (Route 50) and across to the Baja Go Karts and shopping strip (Tangers Outlets, Marshalls, etc.)
3. One star with total breakdown for:
* Affordable room rates
* Friendly and courteous staff service
* Indoor water park for children
* Room with free WiFi (not the best connection but works)
I would recommend FSK for families with small children. It is probably a better deal/​option than paying higher rates for hotel/​motel stay closer to the beach or on the boardwalk.

Came on the of season through a groupon and we had a great time. Unfortunately due to the off season many of the things were closed such as the dinner, mini golf, etc. we did enjoy the pool which was very kid friendly and our little one loved it. The room was nice but because we were in the building adjacent to the pool it had a musty odor to it. It was not to the point where it was terrible, but it was notable. The room had a full working kitchen which was great for cooking and saving money on going out to eat. They also provided a crib which was a life saver. The beds were super comfortable as well. Overall it was a great experience and it was well worth the trip. I would imagine going during peak season it would be super loud and very busy so do be aware of that as the walls are thin as someone had mentioned.

Ok so because my 5 year old Joey LOVED our week vacation here, I love everything about this place. From the indoor pool which is great for kids his age and great for rainy vacation days! To the shuttle bus service to the beach with the friendly drivers and less driving while on vacation! Stay here and your kids will have fun!
