Buckingham Hotel

We stayed at the Buckingham at the last moment due to our first hotel totally skeeved us out. The rooms are, small but clean as were the bathrooms. The young ladies at the desk were very friendly and hopeful. We liked this much better as we were only a block off of the beach and right in the action. The rates were reasonable. We would stay there again.

Update is that I DID stay there with my family for another night this year. Complaint is that they raised their prices by a GOOD 25% which is outlandish in this economy. I was able to get the rate down somewhat but the price increase from last year is not on par with inflation or other comparable hotels nearby. The plus is that the hotel was much quieter this year and we actually got a good night’s sleep. I do maintain that this is a clean hotel and that is a huge plus, too. Only other complaint is that I had forgot my toothbrush. a «real» hotel will have spares. The woman at the front desk told me that the vending machine usually had them but she was responsible for stocking it and hadn’t been to a store. It would seem that common sense would dictate that toiletries should be stocked and available. It’s a toothbrush – it wouldn’t rot. That aside, though, I am still satisfied with staying there for a night or two and will likely be back.

Well, if you want to stay in a room the size of a large cardboard box, this is the room for you! Very small, maybe three feet IF THAT, In between the two beds. Zero water pressure coming from the bathroom sinks. Maybe two lines of water. Had to use the tub to brush our teeth. It took forever to get the shower hot, and once it was it was scorching hot. The wifi didn’t work at all. There were not enough parking spaces for how many people were staying there. Had to find parking elsewhere at some point which is ridiculous when it is supposed to be guaranteed parking. At one point our cards got deactivated and we couldn’t get into our room. There staircase always had sand in it and didn’t seem to be cleaned ever.
Being a frequent visitor to Ocean City, I have stayed in many hotels of this level. This has to be the worst. Would not recommend staying here whatsoever! Maybe one night if needed.
On the positive side, it is in a great location. Short walk to the beach and Boardwalk. Had cute rocking chairs out front if you wanted to sit. The staff was also friendly.

So after reading the reviews, I was kind of taken back by all the bad ones. Seems like everyone had something bad to say about the place, but for $ 100 for the night, we took the risk. We were so pleasantly surprised. The bathrooms been renovated, we have a brand new cooling system, the room just looked great. The TV has a volume cap but it’s most definitely loud enough for the small room & for the parking, if you no how to park and/​or drive. You’ll be fine.
The only con, which isn’t really a con is the pool. It’s far but honestly, at least they have one. For the price, I’m so so so so happy.

It was high season and there were limited choices on lodging at Ocean City. We found this hotel while driving along the city and we booked it for one night. We asked very nicely to be put in a quiet room the uninterested guy at the counter was not giving a damn. We were sent the room 304 right underneath this room that lead to a higher floor. We went to the room to drop off our stuff it was a small boxy room you could see they crammed many rooms into this small building. It also had a musty smell and the carpet looked like it was not cleaned we even found a cap from a water bottle on the side of the bed. First thing we did was remove the gross green cover on the bed.
We came back from hanging out and was hoping to relax in the room. We noticed that the sheets looked like someone slept in it. We flipped the flat sheet and noticed that there was a hair, and two, three, four, thick long thin short even an afro hair, and on my side I saw about 10 sugar crystals scattered. It was the most disgusting thing I ever seen in a hotel. I called the reception to ask for clean sheets the lady who answered was nonchalant she said this happens with the washing machine what a lame excuse and it would be 25 minutes wait unless I want to go pick it up myself. Whao!!! We waited but our skin crawled in the dingy boxy room and the bed was the only space we had i decided to go down myself. As i was going down the security guard came up holding sheets to go to our room. He apologized and proceeded to remove all the sheets and put on the clean sheets. He was sweating and he took the pillow tucked in his chin to pull the pillow sheet sorry but it was grossed. Guess what the new clean sheets had NOT ONE strand of hair. We were so put off by the experience and couldnt sleep well in this room at all. Then came these «party animals» who were slamming the door going upstairs about every 10 minutes and we happen to be right under the stairs. Also the wifi did not work at all. The next day we woke up early dying to get out of this hell hole. We opened the fridge to take the wine we didnt drink the fridge reeked of a 10 day old rotten fish the nauseating stench of ammonia completed our stay. It was sad these ppl dont even give a damn. I can’t speak to the conditions in any other room, but room 205 has a dank, musty smell that’s pretty gross. We tried keeping the window open to air out the room, but it didn’t help. Either the smell is coming from the air conditioner or it’s deep in the carpet. A little dampness is to be expected at the beach, but this was bad.
The room is also very small. VERY small.
On the upside: The location is great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They are also vigilant about noise — coming upstairs to say «could hear us» when my son stubbed his toe on a bag — which is a good thing at a beach hotel.

Stayed here this past weekend. I can say our «apartment» was pretty nice and clean. I liked that it had a well equipped kitchen and had flat screen TVs in both bedrooms and living/​dining area.
If you stay for more than a day bring an iron as the office only has one. There sister hotel on 1^st street has the pool but I must say it was a nice size pool and clean when you get to it, but this hotel is only a block from the beach.
We had an issue with the toilet not flushing, which didn’t get fixed until the next morning and that was after calling a few times and the office staff figuring out who’s job it was to fix it.
My family came in more than one car and they only gave one parking pass, which was crazy and the parking lot was super small. Good thing is there was enough street parking for the other cars.
Overall, pleasant stay and I’d stay here again.

We went this year during Dew Tour weekend and last minute decided to stay. Every other place was completely booked. We found a room here and was completely surprised. It was so cute and the staff was very friendly. I will never stay at another hotel in OC. I’m confused by other reviews saying guests are underage kids. You have to provide an id for all guests to prove they are 25 or older, unless they are children. Maybe this is a new policy, but I’m glad it’s in place. Regarding the no pool; come on people, where the heck is the pool supposed to go? It’s a small hotel. They allow all their guests to use the pool on 1^st street. It cost a $ 2 all day to take the bus. Hop on the bus and go to the pool. And you’re a ½ block away from the beach. Why do you even need a pool. There’s the huge ocean. About the parking; its a small hotel. They’re isn’t a lot of parking, BUT the hotel pays for an extra lot. If there is any reason what so ever that there is no parking, they locate you a spot in their garage and either take it there for you or you can yourself. Someone also complained that the tv volume would not go up very high. It’s called noise control. I’m sure if they did not have that feature on the tv you would find a complaint about the room next door saying their tv was too loud. And who goes to the beach to watch tv? I mean really. Some people you cannot please and will bitch about anything. We go to the beach to go on the boardwalk, beach, the rides, restaurants, not to sit in a hotel. Not for nothing, if that’s what you want to do, stay in your own home town and rent a room for the weekend. We stayed in the room for about 9 hours a day between sleeping and showering and it was perfect for that. The location is perfect. We could park our car there and never need to move it until it’s time to leave.

It wasn’t absolutely horrible but it wasn’t great either. It is just Ok. The room was very damp and the air conditioner was so loud that I got no sleep the first night I stayed there. We stayed in a room with two small queen sized beds and it was extremely tiny. Pillows were big and stiff, bed wasn’t very comfortable, and the blankets were paper thin and rough. Very small hallways and heavy doors, so we were woken up in the middle of the night due to slamming doors. The heavy set front desk lady seemed very lazy. She told us that restaurants were usually open till 10pm and that is not true. Best time to go is before 9pm preferably 8pm. It was affordable but I think next year we will spend the little bit of extra money for a nicer place with a pool.

For reference: I came here with my sister for her senior week. We stayed in a room with two queen beds, a microwave, mini fridge, private bathroom, and flat screen tv. We know how to have fun without being disrespectful to other people so we had no problems whatsoever. If people were to ever get noisy, the receptionist would put an end to it. All in all, it was a good hotel /​stay and I would stay there again.
Pros: newly renovated, very clean, good price, good location (right across the street from the boardwalk and near a bus stop), friendly front desk, comfortable beds/​pillows, nice shower, patio w/​a good amount of chairs, A/​C, free wifi (even though it took us awhile to connect to it for some reason, it was speedy once we were connected), relatively quiet, lots of coupon books laying around
Cons: fire department is behind the building and they get calls more frequently than any fire department I’ve ever seen, no balcony, not many cable channels, small hallways, you have to wear wrists bands and no guests after 8PM (at least during senior week?), A/​C drips when raining and room feels really damp, not enough outlets, TV volume cap (idk if it is for every tv or something someone did to ours but we didn’t know how to fix it /​didn’t care enough to ask), no swimming pool (apparently you can use the one at the other hotel on 1^st street but its easier to go to the beach), also there was no iron in our room so we had to go downstairs and borrow one when we wanted to use it.

This was a disaster. To explain every aspect of how bad it was it will take me hours so to sum it up — booked 3 nights for 3 adults and a baby. Got there, it was senior week (no one told us that) so all night there was banging on the doors, drunk teens screwing each other loudly and no one would do anything about it. Security was acting like it’s not their job so at 2 am me and my boyfriend both had to get out and yelled at the teens to stop slamming doors so they won’t wake up our 9 months old. Room was very small, not nice at all, nothing was nice in there. It was very expensive too. In the morning my boyfriend had a serious argument with management until they were forced to issue us a refund (first they refused to of course, also we haven’t gotten it yet so I’m ready to keep having to deal with them over the phone) after all they did issue a refund and let us go to a different place. This was an absolute nightmare and something is telling me this place is the worst even during a normal week. No pool, parking only for a few cars and not paved (gravel) and nowhere else to park near by. Worst hotel ever. Do not go there unless you want to deal with drunk under age kids in which case go for it.

The Buckingham Hotel fulfilled all the qualities of a good Ocean City hotel to me; proximity to the beach, great customer service and comfortable bedding arrangements. I had a great stay.

Top quality, almost like home at the beach type of hotel. small and cozy, very intimate and staff makes you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. Free TV and fridge in every room and only steps from the beach and boardwalk. Very clean and very well remodeled– sleeper hotel of the year in OC.

As a Marylander I have been to my fair share of Ocean City hotels, and the Buckingham is one of the few that I would gladly go back to. First off, it is right by the beach/​boardwalk so it was never a hassle to go between the beach and hotel multiple times. Also, I learned that the Buckingham had just been completely remodeled during the off-​season, and it showed. The rooms were in excellent condition and everything seemed brand new (the wall mounted flat screen was pretty nice too). Last but not least, the Buckingham had one of the friendlier staffs I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My only con for the Buckingham would be that parking was difficult at times because the hotel was full during the weekend I spent there.
Overall, one of the top places I have stayed in Ocean City.

Great stay at this hotel, always clean in the lobby and the rooms. Great customer service. And also great location. The beach is right across the street, and if you have coolers, they have complimentary ice! Hope all of your future bookings at this hotel will be go as well as mine.

Save yourself the trouble and spend an extra $ 50 or so on a nicer hotel or apartment.
If you are looking for a place to literally JUST SLEEP then this is the place for you. We normally stay in the 100 block range of Ocean City, in fact I prefer the more quiet area. Unfortunately it’s July 4^th weekend and our normal favorite hotel recommend (!!!) this place last minute because they had no vacancies. Needless to say walking in there were two kids outside on the porch smoking. These people turned out to be employees. I will say the young lady who checked us in was very helpful and nice. But it ended there. When making the reservation we were told this hotel had recently renovated for the 2011 season with flat screen TV’s in all the rooms and a fridge/​microwave. No flatscreen TV. Hairs in the fridge. Bathroom is disgusting and old. Stains all over the walls and wood paneling. Overall not a fan, and very thankful that I am only staying here one night, and as far as I can tell there are no major bug infestations (fingers crossed).
This place reminds me of the perfect senior week room. There is off street parking and lots of free street parking (if you come during the week). One a/​c unit in the tiny room. Small closet. Located across the street from the board walk on 14^th and Baltimore.
