Some of the most hilarious, witty, and quality radio programming that I have ever listened to. 91.5 is Oberlin — Community radio. So essentially students volunteering their time and skills on the air. My friend used to have a regular show on here late at night –in which he played a stream of grindcore, death metal, and thrash in between throwing in some off-color dark humor — that probably about 10 of the 20 people listening to his show — used to actually get. But listening to him and his friends. chortle their Beavis and Butthead laughs over the air, in between Danzig and Blitzkid — was something special. It was Oberlin. Oberlin is comprised of people who think outside of the box and the music and shows which would stream through dorm radios across the whole campus– reflected that. I wish I would have taped more of those pearls of true genius. I wish I would have savored those shows more. I hope current Oberlin students are. Trust.

«Alternative Radio,» huh? Not in the Green Day/StoneTemple Pilots Seattle-in-the-90’s sort of way, but pretty accurate nonetheless. WOBC91.5 is, actually, Oberlin College and Community radio. Run exclusively by students(and they certainly choose what they play– what is this I hear about other college’s stations being pre-programmed?! Is nothing sacred?!), the Station is second to none I went to Oberlin, and I was a DJ at WOBC, so naturally I’m biased, but I really don’t think there’s better college radio out there. The snobbery, passion and sophisticated musical palate of WOBC’s DJs makes the station incredibly unique and varied; everyone takes their job VERY seriously. MTV’s extreme-misnomer segments called«You Hear It First» sum up WOBC pretty well. Whatever you’re listening to now, they played it first. So snobby, so true. I did a couple of music shows at WOBC, but without question my «finest work» was a year and a half of a Celebreality, a thinking-person’s response to celebrities. True to Oberlin and to WOBC, we brought the freshest celebrity gossip and then we broke that shit down like it was source material. I did it with my best friend and those shows will remain some of my happiest college memories. While Oberlin is way out in Ohio, you can find a show that matches your tastes on the program guide, and listen to the streaming webcast wherever you are at .
