I was so happy with my YY experience! I was referred to them for water damage to my tracking pad. They talked me through everything that had happened, gave me a realistic 48 hour turnaround, were actually up front about what they thought the problem might be and what it might cost to fix it, and then they had what I thought was a reasonable inspection fee (one that would be absorbed into the repair fee if I decided to move forward with them).
One tip: they do accept walk-​ins, and since the phone system seems to be a bit slow I suggest doing that. Just drop by and drop off your computer for an inspection. If I had waited for the phone tree to catch up with me it would have cost me two extra days while schedules aligned.
I’m hoping not to need their services again, but if I do ever have mac issues then they are definitely the team I’ll visit. They sent me quick and clear email updates. They returned my compy good-​as-​new (and sparkling clean), they repaired it quickly, and for a reasonable price, and did I mention that they have a PARKING LOT? Mother of mercy, it doesn’t get any better in Oakland!

Kevin is great. Very honest and smart. We now have him as a regular vendor for our HOA.
He repaired our CCTV DVR and gives me advice on issues that comes up. The storefront can be misleading as this is far superior service in my opinion over Best Buy and other retailers.
Parking lot so convenient.
Price is very reasonable and they are quick. Another reviewer complained that his computer wasn’t fixed in a single visit, but that’s the nature of the beast to trouble shoot each part at a time.

These guys are amazing! My Macbook Air had suffered some water damage and I initially took it to the Genius Bar, where I was told that it would cost a minimum of $ 700 for water damage repair. Not willing to pay those costs, I took my laptop to these guys instead. For a significantly less costly price than Apple quoted me, these guys were able to fix issues with my motherboard, keyboard, screen, and battery!
They are also incredibly professional as well. They had placed an order for a replacement battery for my laptop, but somehow the delivery date for the battery got delayed. Instead of making me wait even longer to have my laptop back, these guys instead offered to return my laptop with their own test battery while they wait for the replacement battery to be delivered, so that I could work on my laptop in the meantime!

i was referred by a friend to yy and just spoke with henry on the phone for about 10 minutes. we deducted that my logic board is likely busted and, considering my schedule (leaving for a gig tomorrow morning a 5 am), it didn’t make sense for me to come in this afternoon. bummer indeed but props for the knowledge and insight. i’ll definitely b hollering in the future. thx hen!

Ok so my hands were wet. But what I didn’t know was that little beads of water would go through the space around the tracking pad of my newish MacBook Air and short out my mother board. Apple store people were nice, but they wanted $ 700. YY guys were even nicer and fixed it for less than half!

These guys are A1. I was referred by my usual computer geeks, to YY Computer. I had a screen issue and a start up problem. I dropped off my MacBook and they did the diagnostic and repairs quickly and on time. They were easy to deal with and did a great job on my equipment. Screen and hard drive replaced and with a memory upgrade, MacBook running at top speed again!

This place is WONDERFUL. I have used them many times for computer repairs, but this week I went in because I couldn’t get some disks to play, or if they ran, they didn’t have sound. They spent about a half hour with me, and then ran me through the steps again to make sure I understood.
NO CHARGE! I begged them to let me pay– they had spent 30 minutes with me– but they wouldn’t accept a dime.

I first came across YY Computer about 4 years ago while running an errand as I drive through Jackson St frequently, getting to know the neighborhood around Jack London.
I meet Kevin and Huey, and had them do a clean re-​install and add a new antivirus program.
I later saw them again, when a former boss utilized them to install a surveillance system in the shop where I worked… the brothers did such an amazing job.
This January, I brought my laptop (now a bit aged) and asked Kevin if the laptop had some life to be able to upgrade from XP… before I would either donate it or have it recycled. To my surprise, there was some life, however a bit slower. which was just fine, as I was asked by my older border for a «hand me down» of the laptop so he could stay up on using technology and internet.
These guys do amazing work, their prices are quite reasonable. Believe me, I’ve been charged ridiculous amounts for «basic» service and further away places… all because of «brand name» repair places.
I firmly believe in promoting local businesses, specially if they provide honest services and good products, as well as doing/​going the extra mile for their client.
Kevin and Huey have won my trust and they’ll always get my business!
Thank you for the windows upgrade and preventing a good laptop from being recycled/​retired too early!

I went to this place simply by going along with the reviews on Unilocal and I should’ve known better. On showing them my MacBook they mentioned they would charge a $ 65 «diagnostic fee,» that would be deducted from my final repair cost if I choose to do the repair, but then the repair cost would be unusually inflated. The laptop wasn’t fixed on the agreed upon date, I was still made to pay the «diagnostic fee» and it felt like they were trying to strong-​arm me to leave a favorable review first, which would then earn me a «discount.» Next time, Apple Store it is.

I’m giving two stars because I already took my Mac at this place two times within three months. Although got charged for both when their policy states free of charge of the computer finds another problem. Anyway. What I have learned is that if you get your Mac problem take it to Apple. These local stores fix it but create another problem. I already spent $ 300 on my Mac within this three month!
P.S even my friend has this same problem as mine. Fixed twice at YY computer.

Took in my daughter’s MacBook Pro for a myriad of issues. YY was good at returning my initial phone call, and after I dropped it off I got service updates via email. It was right after the holidays so they told me it would take 5 – 7 days just to diagnose. Ugh. Thankfully it didn’t — they diagnosed within 3 ½ days and repaired it within 5 days.
It’s been almost a week and everything is running smoothly. And after I approved the quote for the repair, they actually let me know that it would cost $ 50 less. Yay for less!
The one piece of advice I have is this: when delivering the diagnosis, my preference would be to be called so that I can clearly understand the what and why of what needs to be repaired. Receiving an email with the diagnosis really just makes me have to pick up the phone and call them to get further explanation… so just in terms of customer service that would be my preference — and I would let them know that in the future. Anyway — I wouldn’t hesitate to use YY Computer again.

I brought my computer in for a repair. I was told that they charge a $ 50 diagnostic fee that would get waived if they do a repair.
The repair was simply blown out RAM.
They replaced it and charged me the diagnostic fee anyway because the repair was too small.

Absolutely 5 stars. I’m the type of guy that NEEDS my laptop EVERYDAY. My laptop stopped working and I was not able to find out what the reason was. My battery died and my laptop stopped working, and after trying other chargers, batteries, I thought the motherboard was the problem. So did ASUS when I called them and they wanted me to ship it in. They told me estimated costs were $ 300+. I decided to take this to YY computers and they knew within 5 minutes what the problem was. The hole where the charger goes into has a «pin» which broke. They replaced it to me within a day since I used the «express option (+$ 65)» and I was able to use my laptop right away. Best service EVER!

«Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section» read the header on my computer screen.
in the pop up’s corner was an emblem of an eagle with the words «Dept. of Justice» and «F.B.I»
amongst the sections cited, i was accused of negligently allowing my computer to be used for illegal activity. thus, the «state» locked me out of my computer. i was being fined $ 300, payable by buying some kind of «money grant/​order» at CVS, Walgreens, etc. and depositing it in the designated bos (with appropriate serial numbers). then my computer will be unlocked in a few days.
HUH? figured it was a virus. logged in elsewhere, yep, it’s called «ransomware».
Called YY computer, they said they could cure this for $ 95. picked up a used dell computer for $ 300 including tax. will i there.
will upgrade to 5 stars if everything works out.
