What the Cake?

Ordered a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for 40 people… It was delicious and very moist! I’ve tried other fondant cakes and they were not as moist as this. All of my guests loved it! Natasha was great answering my questions throughout emails on the entire process.

Natasha was very easy to work with. I had a vision and she sent the sketch back very quickly and to see my vision in a sketch and then in real life was completely amazing. She was timely with delivery. There was just only one issue about a part of the cake that we had to kind of make do with but other than that the cake was extrodinary. I had 100 people at my gathering and the cake was the perfect size.
Everyone really liked the cake itself. It was chocolate and vanilla cake with buttercream filling. The cake was moist and not too sweet. I definitely will use Natasha again.

I called Natasha again this year to design and create my daughter’s 2^nd birthday cake. I just specified mermaid, and Natasha created the most fabulous cake for her birthday. It was so awesome that I received no less than compliments from 15+ adults and the kids could not stop talking about the cake at daycare the next day. It was beautiful. It was also REALLY REALLY delicious!
Natasha is a pleasure to work with, and she delivers her cakes on time and in pristine condition. She’s also super affordable for this kind of work, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I’ve never had such a delicious cake in my life! I needed a cake for my boyfriend’s 35^th birthday party. I found Natasha on Unilocal and saw all the positive reviews for her and reached out to her. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted but Natasha was amazing and helped guide me through the process. IShe sent me sketches and helped bring my idea to life. If it was up to me alone, I’d have settled for a plain vanilla and butter cream frosting. But thanks to Natasha and her superb palate, she came up with an idea for a mojito cake that had dried mint in the batter and a mango butter cream frosting– DELICIOUS! My guests and I were gaga over the cake. Best cake I’ve had in a LONG time.
If you are in need of a fun, fabulous and delicious cake, I would 100% recommend Natasha. She is a natural at what she does and she is the utmost professional! Which is why I was horrified to read the ONE negative comment about her when I logged in to leave my review. I reached out to Natasha for her business and she responded within a reasonable amount of time. I didn’t want someone else to snatch her away so I paid a deposit to secure my time/​date with her. Putting down a deposit is a common practice (similar to renting an apartment or securing a venue for a wedding) — if you snooze, you lose.

Terrible service! BAD BUSINESS!
It takes her more then a day to respond. We had everything planned out for the cake from the sketch to the flavor. I was about to send her the deposit for the cake through PayPal after she answered one of my questions. I sent her that email on Jan 5 at 9:08am. However, she responds to me on Jan 6 at 7:17pm saying
«I assumed that my email from Dec 18^th in which I had outlined what each price range offers (to details like numbers of flowers, or leaves or torches on the cake) plus my sketch made it easy.
I’m sorry that you didn’t find it clear enough. As I’ve predicted your spot has been filled this afternoon by another client who paid a deposit. Sorry it didn’t work out. All the best to you, I hope your celebration is a success!»
This is absurd! Obviously she didn’t make it clear enough since I had to ask. I even re read the email over again twice to see where she outlined the price.
Maybe this could have worked out if she would have responded in time. She was responding pretty quick up until I questioned her pricing. Weird how that works out right?

I didn’t really look at your website. I found you on Unilocal.That’s last email I asked you was how do I send the payment through PayPal. Get your story straight. You’re running a business. If you didn’t want to do it to begin with you should have just said it and not have gotten my hope up with your sketches.

After so many searches. I ran into Natasha website whatthecake. They were able to make the perfect sport theme cake for my son’s 1^st bday cake for a reasonable price. The flavors were delicious too. We had ordered a three tier cake with an additional 4′ smash cake. Flavors were red velvet, mocha, and strawberry filling which was a hit to everyone. No leftovers to take home. Fondant was good too! So happy with the service that transpired all thru emails and a few calls. I would def recommend her service to all of my friends.

Natasha is amazing. I ordered a shirt & bow tie cake for my friend’s 30^th bday extravaganza. It was just about the freshest-​most fantastic cake I’ve ever laid my eyes on. I don’t know how many people took and posted photos of this cake. It was definitely a show stopper to the dinner party.
Ordering process: Gave Natasha a call, confirmed order & pick up logistics via email, and picked it up from her & her hubby the day of the party. It was easy as… well … CAKE. (bah.bump.chang!)
Design process: I sent a graphic PDF + my friend’s picture wearing a bow tie. Natasha sent back a sketch (with the exact colors from the real life picture, purple pinstripes and all). I approved the sketch. When I picked up the box and opened it; I unveiled the exact replica of what she sketched. To the T.
Taste: White cake, cream filling, & strawberries. It was moist yet fluffy. Fondant lovers dream. Recommendation: ask for double the amount of strawberries as it was light.
Price: Completely reasonable. I comparative shopped since I work in procurement. Like for like quality ~ I was getting quotes for $ 80 – 100 more than what I actually paid with WTC.
Overall: I would & will order from What the Cake again and again and again.

Natasha made the most awesome cake for my friend’s birthday. I added a picture of the final product (it’s the red and black Air Jordan shoe one).
Her prices are the BEST I’ve found among the 10 quotes I got from bakeries in Oakland and San Francisco, but the quality in no way reflects that. I was quoted around $ 200 on average from all the other bakeries and spent nowhere near that for my order.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NATASHA FOR YOUR SPECIALTY CAKE NEEDS. She was so easy to talk to (did all communication via email) and she got everything perfect.

Tried a sample of their cake at a Unilocal event in Oakland.
While it was beautifully decorated, I found the cake itself to be dry and way to light and airy. I saw they were cutting away the decorative outer shell and thought they were just wasting chocolate, so I asked to have a piece of the shell too. They were very nice and let me have it, but turns out the shell is kind of hard, I guess not really meant to be eaten. I would feel weird to serve a cake and just peel away and throw away the decorative layer.

I attended the Unilocal beerwalk at Jack London Square today and the cake that Natasha had for this event was sooooo good it was a Vanilla Kona Mocha Cream cake but made into a Volcano… I’m pretty sure that is what it was. It was so creamy and delicious. I would order a cake from them anytime. Great and they were so nice.

I found What the cake here on Unilocal read all the reviews & thought I’d give it a shot. Emailed Natasha and she was quick to respond. I love that she was just as excited about the cake as I was & that her pricing is VERY REASONABLE. I had an idea in my head of a football helmet sitting on a field but being that I didn’t need a HUge Cake Natasha suggested just a 9inch helmet. I was a little scared up to the day that it wouldn’t be big enough. Boy was I wrong and I’m glad the cake turned out beautiful! It was perfect & my husband loved it and so did everyone else. Not only did it look great it tasted great I will definitely be using her in the future :-)

Natasha made my dream come true! She created the cutest baby dragon baby shower cake ever! It was exactly what I wanted!!! She was also such a pleasure to work with. Very responsive and very reasonably priced for the amount and quality of work. Not only did the cake look absolutely gorgeous but it tasted quite good as well. Unlike some other fondant I have had in the past, her fondant was actually edible and not at all disgusting. I will definitely work with her again for all my custom cake needs.

Natasha is fantastic! From our initial emails of introduction to the final mastery that I had picked up from her yesterday, was a great experience. Natasha is simply soo easy to work with. I told her that I wanted a cake with a dragon for a baby shower and she definitely delivered. Her initial drawing was great, but wasn’t baby-​showerish enough so I asked her if we could add some blocks or booties… her answers were always «no problem».i loved that. since the cake served about 30 people… i thought she would only add the booties, but when I saw the cake she had everything on it. the intricate and detailed 3d dragon wrapped around the base with a smiley face to the booties and blocks on top of it… the cake was GORGEOUS and everyone at the babyshower including the parents to be LOVED it…
Now.lets talk about our taste buds… OH WOWWW! Everyone. and I mean everyone who had a piece of the cake couldn’t believe how moist and good it was. The red velvet cake and the cream cheese filling had the right amount of sweetness and literally melted in our mouths.
I will definitely come back to What the Cake? for more cakes! My friends were all wondering who had made the cake and I was only too happy to tell them about my experience with Natasha and her wonderful service. We have all became fans of WHAT THE CAKE?

At first it was a slow start because she miss my email. Once she reply from than on it was easy process. The cake was wonderful and the taste of it was really good. I have try many cakes with fondant on it and is always too sweet or thick with too much royal icing in it. I definely will order more cakes from her and highly recommend her to all my friends.

I ordered a cake from What the Cake for my son 3^rd birthday. They were great! The whole experience they were very friendly, quick response and designed my cake exactly what my son wanted. They even delivered the cake to me at Chuky E Cheese. Very nice people. I will use them again but mostly for special occations because it is a little more than I usually spend on kid cakes.++++Oh yeah and it was very yummmyyyy

Not only do their cakes look fantastic they taste great too. And they personally delivered the cake to a surprise birthday party.

Natasha is wonderful! I recently turned 30 and threw a party. I knew I wanted a special cake, and after looking through a ton of reviews and photos, finally decided on What the Cake? and couldn’t have been happier with the results.
Natasha was responsive, receptive, and encouraging. By the end of our exchange, I felt totally comfortable squealing «I ordered a chocolate espresso cake because I didn’t want anyone to think i’m boring, and um… vanilla. But the fact is, i really LIKE vanilla so yes, vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream… is it too late to change?!» And it wasn’t!
As for the design, I dug deep and came up with four ideas, all of which she entertained, sent me a couple of sketches, picked one, kept working with me on specifics, and voila! Everyone loved it! AND everyone agreed that the cake was moist and delicious!!! Believe the hype — the attention to detail is phenomenal (right down to spatial perspective). I’ve posted photos that I jacked from facebook (credits go to What the Cake? as the party venue was too dark to get good photos) — mine is the album cover.
Best of all, it’s affordable! Go here first!

So gorgeous I (almost) didn’t want to cut into it!
I got this book-​shaped cake (see photo) as a surprise birthday gift last night. Natasha was awesome enough to deliver it to my house at 7:00 on a Saturday night, no small feat of service as far as I’m concerned. The attention to detail in this cake was amazing, from the detail in delineating pages, to the spine, to the ribbon. This is all the more impressive in light of the fact that they’d never done a cake in the shape of a book before.
So often it seems like in elaborately decorated cakes that taste goes by the wayside. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case here: the chocolate cake was moist and delicious, with a great mocha buttercream frosting.
I’m totally thrilled with What the Cake. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a beautiful, delicious, unusual creation.

Natasha’s cakes are unbelievable. Edible sculptures — she is very talented and clearly passionate about her art!

The cake shown in the picture was made for the business I work for in celebration of an open house we were having. The large cake was regular flour cake, while the cupcakes were made gluten-​free!
Everything tasted really great, and those of us who can’t eat real food anymore appreciated the sweet gesture of taking the time to make gluten-​free goodies!
I totally recommend What The Cake for baked goods! The name is catchy as well!
